3 pointsThe characters here are: Twice the translator had to chose a meaning for 道 . The listing for 道 in Kroll: ~~~<>~~~ dao4 ~~~<>~~~ 1. way that leads somewhere, road, route, pathway, passage. 2. the Way; as image suggesting how things actually exist, fundamental reality, a constant Way in which the diverse ways of living and relating are essentially balanced and whole. a. conceptual term used by all schools of thought, with same root metaphor but varying connotations: Confucian ‘Way’ incl. norms of social responsibility and personal conduct exemplified by ideal worthies such as King Wen of the Zhou, the Duke of Zhou, etc.; Dao. ‘Way’ points to absolute and ineffable reality behind flux and modalities of the world, and advisability of taking it as model; Budd. ‘Way’ incl. possibility of release from the round-of-birth-and-death (samsara) and recognition of contingent and impermanent nature of human existence. b. 道士 dao4 shi4 gentleman of the Way, exemplar of the Confucian ‘Way’; also, expert in the ‘Way’, specialist in occult or mantic practices, syn. 方士 fang4 shi4; also (med.), Daoist adept, usu. associated with an organised Dao. community (see 5a below), priest. N.B. Contrast these with (med) 道人 dao4 ren2, man of religion, a Budd. monk (not Dao.). 3. way of doing something, course of action, method, proper procedure, practice; e.g. 所以 求 之 之 道 suo3 yi3 qiu2 zhi1 zhi0 dao4, the means by which one seeks it; 道場 dao4 chang2, place of practice, arena of the Way, altar, Budd. or Dao. chapel. a. guiding road, rule of conduct, principle, guidelines. b. doctrine, tenets, dicta; teachings. c. (Budd.) the Buddha-path, path to enlightenment. 4. skill or art of a particular kind, specialisation. 5. ideas and teachings esp. associated with the texts Zhuangzi and Laozi (or Daodejing); e.g. 道家 dao4 jia1, lineage of the Way, bibliographic category ref. to these and related texts, often defined as ‘philosophical Daoism’ in contrast to next. a. practices esp. associated with movements and texts relating to masters of self-cultivation, pursuit of immortality, and various organised religious communities, esp. those ultimately deriving from the Way of the Celestial Masters (tiashidao 天 師 道 [tian1 shi1 dao4]) founded in mid-2nd-c. CE; e.g. (med.) 道教 dao4 jiao4, teaching of the Way, from early 5th-c. CE a term assoc. with groups and texts just described, often defined now as ‘religious Daoism’. 6. say, speak; express, communicate orally; cue. 7. circuit, administrative area outside the usu. prefecture/district (junxian 郡縣 [jun4 xian4 prefecture county]) structure; in Han times ref. frontier areas mainly populated by non-Chinese; in Tang times also ref. frontier area but from 706 on more importantly to large units of province size throughput the state, each of which (10 at first) incl. many prefectures and governed by special commissioners (shi 使 [shi3 sent]). 8. (med.) understand, be aware of; think, presume. a. (med.) expect; have a sense that X is likely to happen. ~~~<>~~~ dao3 ~~~<>~~~ 1. (interchangeable) 導 dao3 1. lead, lead the way, show the way; conduct, guide. ~~~ Even after filtering out (e.g. ‘med.’, ‘Budd.’), I will still be left with a plethora of choices.

2 pointsFire from the Heavenly Stem hits the stable where the Horse has been chomping at the bit for 60 years. The Horse jumps out of the burning gate and takes off galloping, mane fiery, tail ablaze. It never fails to leave its hoof prints on the world's politics, economy, and landscape. Here are some of them: 1846 Mexican–American War begins, reshaping the future borders of the U.S. Peasant uprising in Galicia, future Ukraine, engineered by the occupying Austrian empire against the local Polish nobility. 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire, one of the worst urban disasters in U.S. history. Mount Vesuvius eruption in Italy, a major disaster affecting Naples and surrounding regions. 1966 Cultural Revolution begins in China, profoundly reshaping society and politics. Flooding in Italy destroys a lot of cultural heritage in Florence and Venice. A major escalation in the Vietnam war. 2026 -- ? Of course there were good things happening too. The type of qi known as the Fire Horse can be quite transformative and, under the right circumstances and given the right treatment, energizing, illuminating, and magnificent. But it's the most volatile kind of them all, unpredictable and not easily governable. Let's hope no pale riders manage to mount it.

2 pointsIt is by one of the characters. 道可道非常道。 Both the first and the last 道 are a noun. 可道 is a verb. It is the character 可 that made 道 become a verb. It can be translated as follow: 1. May talk about it 2. Can be speaking of 3. Can be spoken of

2 pointsthe verbal version of moral would be moralize, and the participle, moralized. Thus, "a moral that can be moralized is not an eternal moral." Not presenting an opinion, just pointing this out. This is a super interesting conversation, though. Appreciate it.

1 pointI caution pervs and flashers due to the upcoming Chinese year . More fire horse fun ; Aries fire horse was also a singer in a band . I went to watch them play at a pub once . She was out the front singing and had a tambourine ; sing sing sing, she does a little spin around ... two beats on the tambourine , .... sing sing sing , turn around . two beats , ... and so on . The crowd was pressed right up to the stage . Sing sing sing, turn around .... guy reaches up and grabs her arse .... two beats on the tambourine - hard , up either side of guys head .... sing sing sing - didnt miss the beat . We are crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing , car stops half way over the crossing , annoyed people are going around it . She instructs him to move the car back , he doesnt ( she is very tall ) , takes one step up onto his bonnet , walks across it and steps down on other side . Car full of hooligans calls out to the other one ( Sagg fire horse ) one night ; ' Show us yer tits ! ' I am signalling to them 'NO! ... drive away ! '' but they dont . She goes over and ''So, you want to see my tits do you ... and other stuff but somehow has them transfixed . While she is talking she has twisted the car aerial off casually , pulled of their side rear view mirror , bent the wiper ... car full of big guys sitting in thee looking intimidated .... WTF ????

1 pointFor natives , perhaps . For non natives ? No. Why ? Because 'non natives' know dinosaurs laid eggs loooooong before there were chickens
-
1 pointIt was ? That would be a little bang . maybe you mean ' The Big Bang ' - in English definite articles and capitols do matter I have just accepted that ; what is behind the formation of things can not be ordinarily seen . That depends on what previously held concepts you want to translate it into
-
1 pointNot necessarily ; It could be a crystal glass . Do I really need to explain it to you ? Maybe I do . A glass is curved (other wise it won;pt hold water ) , this causes refraction and the light passing through it - from behind it , gets refracted so it looks different from its background . Glass itself can be a flat sheet that does not refract the light and allows the light behind it to pass straight through it , making it seem as if the glass is not there . Too hard ? Try this then ; Flat glass ; curved glass ; A glass; Through the looking glass ;

1 pointI didn't choose the word 'chaos'. It was just a copycat thing. Big bang was by an explosion of an atom. Laotze said Tao is formed by something spinning until it comes into shape. At the time of my translation, I didn't like the word 'chaos' was used. My English wasn't that good at the time. Perhaps, we could work together on this one to come up with something better!
-
1 pointThe usual . And its often not related to any OP or previous posts . Just some ' self observations' and flag waving about cosmic stuff and how he feels he has it sorted
-
1 pointHmmmm ... 'glass' is one thing . 'A glass' is another thing . Listen here you lot ! Dont do to English what you are doing to TTC !
-
1 point' That which contains the foundation of order, yet unseen . ' or .... ( since you are allowing 'grok' , then I am allowing ) ' warp storm ' .

1 pointWow, even the modern 性 character looks like a needle and a spool of thread. I suppose plant fiber becomes thread eventually, but that's probably a major stretch, lol.

1 pointNo. To be 'invisible' does not necessarily imply it does not exist; and to exist does not necessarily imply it's visible. E.g. an object that allows light to pass through, is not visible (e.g. glass).

1 pointnot much mention about the ways and means that the Devas and Gods help out mankind? (including helping the historic Buddha at a critical juncture) What gives? Just meditate and be happy is all it takes.... since we have "our books and poetry to protect us" along with an all powerful intellect.

1 pointTrying to find places in the DDJ with descriptions of Dao. Ch. 25: start of ch. 25 by Henricks (G) 又状虫成, 先天地生, 敚[糸禾], 独立而不亥, 可以为天下母。 未智(知)其名, 字之曰道。 There is a form that developed from primordial chaos That was born before heaven and earth. Silent and still, it stands on its own and does not change. … It can be regarded as the mother of all under heaven. Not yet knowing its name, We refer to it as the Dao. start of ch. 25 by Henricks (MWD) 1. There was something formed out of chaos, 2. That was born before Heaven and Earth. 3. Quiet and Still! Pure and deep! 4. It stands on its own and does not change. 5. It can be regarded as the mother of Heaven and Earth. 6. I do not yet know its name: 7. I "style" it "the Way."

1 pointDoes the state of mind you have acquired lead to keeping the 5 precepts? No Cheating, stealing, lying, killing, consuming intoxicants(alcohol/drugs). Precepts that we keep, break, are good mechanism to check if we are acting out of greed, aversion, delusion. Not thinking does not always mean a good thing. Because ignorance is another outcome of not thinking. Basic Intelligence, and active contemplation is important on the path.
