So I guess all those taoists at Wudang that aren't fat must be complete failures, eh.

 

 

Well bro I can only comment on people i have met. I have seen many that make claims yet have no juice.

 

Sifu Wu, Sifu Fong, Dr. Morris, , Lama Khenpo, Lama Kyemsar, Lama Geshe, Sifu John Bracey, Sifu Dan Fererra, myself ALL have buddha/baby belly yet when you touch it or punch it its harder as steel.

 

Only person i know that has 6/8 packabs and is ripped and has juice is Pak Muhammad & Tao Semko, pak Koning, but most i have met do not have juice although they "ripped". Pak M's training is very intense isometric wise so there is no question it will make you more "ripped" i have toned a lot since doing his training.

 

Muscle training alone with out chi is just that ...Muscle training alone.

 

You should come train man i have guys that are "Ripped" and "crossfit'd" and they will be the first to show you that that goes out the window against real fighting skill & internal training.

There has been many old taiji masters fat and dead at a early age so to be honest its not gonna help you if you eat and drink crap.

 

Longlife can be achieved through both Yin and Yang, hard and soft, inner and outer work, fast and slow. Its the quality of life you have as you get older and does your practice give you the best health as possible if not why do it?

I think the whole "belly" thing is just that- a "belly" and not "fat" in your belly region.

 

I can't really think of many good examples, but if you look at a lot of old Chinese art depicting martial artists, monks, some immortals (perhaps?), and a few other characters, they are all drawn with a little gut. Well, not a "gut", but just a little bit of a "stomach".

 

They are "skinny", but not "ripped", but very far from fat. That's kind of how I pictured it. Basically, an expanded diaphragm/abdominal region from long hours of deep breathing. Same thing with guys who lift heavy weights, they have a bit of a "belly" from repeated deep breathing (I think an earlier picture of Chuck Liddell shows what I am talking about).

The name "Dan Fererra" I didn't remember but when I went to a link for his site he looks familiar. Is he a member of the NQA?

 

 

edit: And to stay on topic, of course there is something called a "qi belly". I ought to know :lol:

 

And Trunk is correct - bodies come in all shapes and sizes. The western view of "healthy looking" is mostly the old over-developed muscle look which does not reflect what is going on inside.

Ok.

Qi development goes hand in hand with tendon and fascial development. If you have "juice", you slowly become a little more puffy than other people, in the beginning stages. As you develop, the goal is to be able to take the "puffiness" of extra qi that stored in the fascia, and transmute it to deeper levels. When you get older, you get skinnier if done correctly.

 

Abdominal breathing should enlarge the stomach area, when using it. But the practitioner should not keep it out permanently because it leads to the collapse of the yangming and taiyang channels. These channels respectively provide qi to the metabolic pathways of our body. They naturally lose energy as we age and slowly descend and collapse themselves. That is why your face starts to droop in certain areas, especially along the sides of the nose and the cheeks. Your belly will sag with age.

 

The amount of buoyancy we have in these channels determines our age. "Young, tight and perky" is a direct social descriptive for the yangming channel! If we allow the abdominal breathing to "collapse" the front stomach channels early, it leads to an accumulation of excess stagnation in the yangming channels. This stagnation actually hinders the fluid efficiency of qi, and progresses into a long list of TCM imbalances.

 

Simply put. Learn to "push" it out to allow for larger temporary qi storage. Eventually learn to "suck" it in for higher levels of qi wattage. Don't leave it out there, tuck it away to stay younger, longer.

Yep. Both my knees (arthritis) and my right shoulder (improperly heeled injury) wouldn't hold up to certain exercises. I work out with weights but most of the work is bench work.

 

also work on walking with weights and doing circle walking and also linear walking as you hold weights.

I do try to walk often and also ride my bike. I can do the leg exercises as long as it is low impact.

 

If I tried the kettlebell with my right hand I would probably pull my arm out of its socket.

They teach you this in acupuncture school? I think once you have practiced for a while you will find it to be not true. Define "done correctly". Per TCM? Qigong standards? What system? MA standards?

I know an RKC certified guy back home...I guess he's a Senior RKC guy. I guess he's "tubby" and strong as an ox. Last I checked, he was 260, he does Jook Lum Mantis and trust me, you don't want to feel his hands. I made the mistake of telling him that I don't know what Tiger Claw is. You really don't want a guy demonstrating that to you that can rip a stack of cards in half with his bare hands.

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) - It's official. That tub of ice-cream really can control your brain and say "eat me."

 

A U.S. study by UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas has found that fat from certain foods such ice-cream and burgers heads to the brain.

 

Once there, the fat molecules trigger the brain to send messages to the body's cells, warning them to ignore the appetite-suppressing signals from leptin and insulin, hormones involved in weight regulation -- for up to three days.

 

"Normally, our body is primed to say when we've had enough, but that doesn't always happen when we're eating something good," said researcher Deborah Clegg in a statement.

 

"What we've shown in this study is that someone's entire brain chemistry can change in a very short period of time. Our findings suggest that when you eat something high in fat, your brain gets "hit" with the fatty acids, and you become resistant to insulin and leptin.

 

"Since you're not being told by the brain to stop eating, you overeat."

 

The researchers also found that one particular type of fat -- palmitic acid which is found in beef, butter, cheese and milk, -- is particularly effective at instigating this mechanism.

 

The study was performed on rats and mice but the scientists say their results, published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation, reinforced common dietary recommendations to limit saturated fat intake as "it causes you to eat more."

 

The study was conducted by exposing rats and mice to fat in different ways -- by injecting various types of fat directly into the brain, infusing fat through the carotid artery or feeding the animals through a stomach tube three times a day.

 

The animals received the same amount of calories and fat and only the type of fat differed. The types included palmitic acid, monounsaturated fatty acid and unsaturated oleic acid which is found in olive and grapeseed oils.

 

"The action was very specific to palmitic acid, which is very high in foods that are rich in saturated-fat," said Clegg.

If both fats and carbohydrates make a person insulin resistant, than what is an energy source that doesn't induce insulin resistance?

Not all fats do this. Some fats are essential and highly beneficial to the system. Read "Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill" by Dr Udo Erasmus.

agreed. I don't know anything about specific fats, but my body tells me that fat is more naturally digested than what I get from grains.

Saturated fat is not a problem, refined carbs and grains are the real culprit. Actually eating sat fat from natural sources is quite beneficial
