5 pointsEverywhere he looked, non-dual people living in a non-binary reality. Liminal Luke didn´t know whether to wave a rainbow flag or schedule an emergency appointment with his shrink; "oh to hell with it," he muttered as he sliced himself another slice of berry pie and put on The Bachelor. Ahh...now there was something he understood.

2 pointswhen younger some of us tended to think (or kind of unconsciously sallied forth ) that we're immortal and took risks we shouldn't have, but as we age we come to realize that this physical body of ours is not going to be around after an "x" amount of time of wear and tear, thus hopefully by then we are more careful. Alas, look at all the terrible accidents that happen in our so called modern world! Most of them are not "acts of god" but are because of carelessness or foolishness by human beings who should know better! The rate of "accidents" seems to be really increasing in the past couple years, especially this year along with all the natural disaster's, many of which we brought on ourselves after decades (or in some cases hundreds of years) of harming or destroying various ecosystems that we were warned not to do! I have a pretty long list of my not so bright actions in earlier years. Somehow I survived my surfing days and didn't drown or get bitten by various sea creatures. Speaking of surfing it originally had a lot personal communing with nature aspect to it but now when looking out at a lineup of surfers one can often see an over-crowded rat race of egotistic and even violent competition! Its similar with a lot down hill skiing that is going on. Btw, why do some risk death in unnecessary or radical ways to seemingly prove they are alive, because its there?

1 pointThis mornings (most recent ) 'strange thing ' ; Driving through dangerous flood waters while onlookers cheer you on . " Let's see if he 'makes ' it . and if he doesn't 'make it' ??? background : https://www.theguardian.com/environment/video/2025/may/22/thousands-isolated-as-nsw-faces-worse-flooding-than-many-have-seen-in-their-lifetimes-video Three dead and one missing , most from crossing floodwaters . For years we have been hammered NOT to do this ; radio TV and newspaper adverts ... sometimes constantly ... stern policeman warning us , emergency workers begging us not to do it .... yet A few floods back I have stopped at our nearest (old style low wooden ) bridge as I was not going to drive over and a police vehicle is there with two officers ; Police to me ; " What do you reckon ?" Me; " About what ?" Police; " Do you think we will make it ?" Me : "Oh sure ! " So off they go , the POLICE crossing floodwaters , after accepting advice from some random dude on the roadside . ! Anyway, I been flooded in for some time ( I waved the rescue helicopter on with a thumbs up , I am used to floods and not stupid , I checked the weather and saw it coming and went out and got extra gas, fuel in case I need generator - didn't , solar never went below 12.4 v ! ... my own system - neighbor has super duper professionally installed system, - they had their generator running- and I got plenty of fire wood, food and packets of joint papers in the rice jar . ) We just had two days of glorious blue sky but water is still over the bridge , don't stop people though . I watched this morning . There is a huge hole on this side where bridge end meets the road ... hidden . Dude comes along from other side , too fast , a wall of water in front of him, over the hood, I signal there is a hole but ... mhe . Wham ! Boy did the bottom of his engine take a blow ! But he got through and then scoffed to everyone ... until he realized he lost his number plate and then tried to go back in on foot and fish around in the raging hole trying to find it while he hung over the edge . Then a guy comes along walking a drinking a beer while he is crossing . Signal him but nah , he is smug .... and steps in the hole , nearly goes over edge . Then young goth girl with big Doc Martin's thick wooly short socks and lace tights gets out a car and walks into the water calf deep ... Mother ; " Why did you do that ? You have ruined your new boots and now you have wet feet all day ! " Crazies ... I had to go home and could not watch . ( rescue helicopter is back ... its got a stretcher on it ) A few years back when the water went down the next bridge down stream , from one end of the flooded bank to the other was a wall of thick high flotsam of huge tree stumps with gnarly roots, logs and similar in a tangle with the top just above the raging water level above the bridge deck . Two 'intrepid' young guys decided to cross by climbing along the top . I had a look at that , it was terrifying ; swirling masses of strong water getting sucked through the unstable labyrinth with many trees with root ball attached with broken roots and logs pointing upstream, like rows of teeth waiting . Anyway they made it ... just , but really scared themselves , so much so they could not face it on the way back (from the shop .... heavens knows what product they needed so urgently ? beer ? smokes ? something with coconut on it ? ) and decided to walk upstream and do a diagonal current crossing way up stream. Number 1 goes, he tells me later " I thought I wasn't going to make it , I swam as hard as I could for ages , it was close I nearly got sucked in " Now he is signalling to his mate 'NO ' and indicating to go much further upstream . mate is enthusiastically waving back ! and in he goes ..... he didn't make it . I sometimes think of the terror that kid felt as he approached that wall and got helplessly sucked down and into it . His body was found a few days later downstream . Yes, people's stupidity does annoy me . Especially when its tragic results could have been so easily avoided . Deep fried turkey anyone ?

1 pointI don't know what his transgressions were as I didn't much follow his posts, but I remember he was being goaded... maybe it's an extenuating factor? (Maybe not -- like I said, I haven't seen the bulk of the interactions, but that was my impression from what little I've seen.)

1 pointAll warlords and leaders of that era were ruthless. Genghis Khan only gets a mention for being smarter and more successful of a ruthless than his ruthless peers. If every warlord of an era is ruthless it becomes redundant to explicitly point it out. And if every major nation on earth practices slavery in an era, it also becomes redundant to point it out. Even worse to pretend that only one nation was guilty. This should be basic science. But somehow. Its not. This is why I say people have no use for facts or science. They throw both out the nearest window as if it has no value.

1 pointIt appears to be the consolidation of my understanding of the Mandate of Heaven. I seem to see Heaven in my own way. Founder sounds too grandiose. But maybe I should see myself that way.

1 pointThey were treated the same way by british, french & other nations. Who acted as middlemen. But according to you only america is guilty. France and britain are "innocent".

1 pointOut of the near 2 Billion Muslims in the world about 4 and half Million live in USA ... so you work it out ! I also note how you avoid figures and statistics and use 'impossible language' ( how would I wow what Muslims like to do with their money ? ) to try and support your prejudices . Do you as a Christian want to live in a country founded on Islamic ideology and principles ? What makes you think Muslims are flocking to the USA ? I know born and bread Americans that are wanting to flee it right now ! Did you think these questions would demonstrate some point or something ? You appear to be rambling ... or maybe ranting - hard to tell from here . That HAS TO BE delusional . But I do know there are masses ... swarms... of people in your country that believes that . here are some other people that believe that about their country even more than you do I regret to inform you that you too have been successfully brainwashed . And I expect you will be as open to hearing that as the average North Korean citizen would be . If you have not noticed, the place has become so messed up many people want to leave ! They pulled the wool over your eyes ... USA is NOT doing good financially Debt is simply the total amount of money the US government owes to its lenders, currently amounting to $36.2 trillion. This represents 122 percent of the country's annual economic output or gross domestic product (GDP), and it is growing by about $1 trillion every three months. All of it , it was inaccurate , uneducated, wrong , no support references or citation, illogical and a set of whimsical ideas invented by you to back up your own prejudices and the brainwashing the state has done on you And all this in a discussion about 'Do people really have free will ' ! Well, thanks for the demonstration ! When the truth is revealed ..... even onlookers get upset

1 pointFunny, I just did a facepalm before my last post in another thread. Here's one that might get a few, though maybe not everyone - the nature of reality is non-dual

1 pointThanks, Mark. I still don't know much about Jimmy Buffett -- except for that one song. I've always liked this refrain: Some people claim that there's a woman to blame but I know it's my own damn fault.

1 pointI think Jiimmy Buffet did alright too, although he was no Warren Buffet. Jimmy had a real estate and restaurant thing going for a while, in Florida and around. You can read all about it, book a stay, even! https://www.jimmybuffett.com/

1 pointMedical, dental and drug costs are often much harder to deal with in the US, for instance a couple years ago a root canal expert made $1,000.00 per hr. ! (which I had to pay out of pocket since at that time I had no dental insurance) As for hospital care and surgery those can bankrupt people in one major event if they don't have decent insurance! And I can't hardly imagine paying sky high rent like millions of people do, especially at an older age! Anyway I'll post these cost issues in the current events forum from now on where they probably should be.

1 pointI guess this leaves some of the most famous teachers who were also formidable undefeated fighters out in the cold... but thanks for correcting their ignorant ways. Cheng Manching (the first master to bring taiji to the West and establish a school here) stands corrected: Yang Chengfu stands corrected: And as for the spiritual types, sheesh, even the Buddha stands corrected: (By the way, just so you don't suspect ulterior personal motives -- I am, and have always been, thin with no special effort.)

1 pointI follow a Faith called "Orders from Heaven", I guess it can go two ways but the gist is kind of that these are Orders from Heaven. Even the things we do. It's almost like the feeling of disconnect from God and Guilt of Impurity goes away. But also leaves me feeling like I have no Free Will at all. These are just Orders from Heaven... Does Free Will exist? If you want, but I find I need recovery from trying too hard sometimes. And that honestly takes shutting down the ability to act for me. The strain that Free will has on living organisms is oddly absurd. Maybe that's just my rambles.
-
1 pointAbsolutely! Still, I have yet to read a translation of the DDJ that does not point directly to the Tao with great clarity, though translations seem more clear (IN ENGLISH). This is true for almost almost all representations in all "non-dual" philosophical documents.

1 pointJesus in fact lived and suffered human pain at the cross, but that doesn’t exclude the fact that he is an esoteric formula to be followed by humanity. I believe people truly do have free will, and souls like Hitler’s will learn what needs to be learned, and they will change for the better sooner or later, even if it takes thousands and thousands of years — exactly because of karma. However, God’s plan can’t be reduced to cause and effect. There are certain things we can’t explain and might be BEYOND free will. Not that our free will is limited, but because it’s completely and absolutely ineffable and surpasses all cognition. There is no esoteric understanding that can explain or describe God — only its secondary effects.

1 pointI am sorry. I am probably wrong in my assessment of the practice that leads to a wider understanding of the nature of our world. But, the practice is not to eliminate thought . Rather to disassociate the awareness from the thoughts. To stop from identifying with thoughts. That the four noble truths talks about the path to liberation from suffering. Not eliminating suffering. One isn't suppose to eliminate desire. Rather, it is to remove the attachment to desires and to not cling to the desire. This way, love and compassion remain viable. The Buddha, even after his enlightenment, chose to teach the path to liberation from suffering to others. And to not harm living beings due to his compassion. So, if one's practice is leading one away from love and compassion then wisdom is lost. Again sorry for my narrow point of view. Note: One shouldn't lose the appreciation for beauty.

1 pointI didn't want to go that way, but they do seem to be pretty cheap these days thanks for pointing it out! You've conviced me. I've placed my order for the first two volumes of FP (and an external reader) I'm REAAALLY looking forward to this type of Qigong practice.

-1 pointsThe problem with their talk is that it does not align with reality. It is a classic case of pulling the wool over someone's eyes or engaging in scamgong manipulation. Do I need to point out that Nathan Brine looks extremely unhealthy and frail? Is this the result of secret lineage 20+ years of personal training under grand master wang liping? Daoists make bold claims about health, longevity, and immortality, yet all we see are sickening footages of individuals suffering from the effects of a modern American diet. They are frequently found in worse health than the average person who does not practice any Daoist arts and has never heard of the "wonderful health benefits and immortality practices." I don't think you should advertise or endorse morbid obesity. Yes, it is a different kind of belly. Different kind of fat as well, usual fat is bad, but this one must be a holy one. And no, they are not dying like all other mortals, they simply enter mahasamadhi and ascend to divine realms. It reminds me of the copium statements made by some people defending "Gurus" who smoke cigars and drink whiskey (and take God knows what substances behind the scenes), as if this is an external show to humble their followers' egos. Certainly, it is not a dreadful, harmful addiction or a lack of self control. The truth is, addictions stem from a weak mind incapable of controlling the body. They also arise when there is no leverage between the mind and the body, and when there is no adequate spiritual development to begin with. Such a human would truly be an animal without an active spiritual component.
