Purpose? What's true North

Not the mountain I look to,

skimming north along the lake

just at dusk, they fly

just at dusk, they fly

while overhead, the buzz of

rice flies everywhere

rice flies everywhere

for two weeks--then gone.  The lake,

still alive this fall

Still alive this fall.

Darkness needs its spectators,

Lest spring bloom in vain.

Lest Spring bloom in vain:

Rainbows 🌈  obscured by the fogs,

Light veiled by their shade.

Hi, Keith108,

The thread you're looking for is "Haiku Unchained", that's here:

I think Stigweard has passed away, but he left us his instructions for his "Haiku Chained" thread, in the first post:

Stigweard

  • The Janitor

  •

  • Stigweard

  • The Dao Bums

  •

  • 3,939 posts

Use the last line of the preceding haiku as the first line of yours.

The structure is three lines:

5 syllables

7 syllables

5 syllables

so there you have it.  As is customary on the thread here, I will attempt a patch.

not worth the penny

coots and ducks in reeds

Good thing I can't sew.

I would sew some dweebs' mouths shut

with jute rope -- but tight.

To strains of chalga

add the faint peals of cowbells...

Old Europe, come home.
