on being really strange

Recommended Posts

on being really strange:

1. won't work very well socially unless you are also fun and pleasant to be around...

2. will attract extra attention to be ignored if you are disheveled and acting disingenuously.

3. makes it hard to get a date or a mate unless you find a bird of feather to frolic together with.

4. "no shirt, no shoes, no service"... also means one should wear pants in restaurants or when shopping.

:P

Yeah, I've always wondered about that but never had the nerve to test it.

Contrary to common suggestion , being yourself should be the last thing you should do when folks might consider you strange.

When you arent strange to them , you can go ahead be yourself and be strange , but then it wont be strange anymore.

( see ,,, then its the last thing you Should present)

I always reckoned that Emo Philips kinda copied Tiny Tim's schtick in a way.

He had a bit of a cult following in some unis over here back in the day.

Emo tried a UK come back tour a while back and tanked.

GMP, Yep, that was the same video that you found...

(many would seemingly feel a mixture of some kind of laughter and some kind of disbelief in such strangeness, and also wonder about a creepiness factor per some of the body language along with certain eye and facial expressions  - although that is only my take ;) )

You may draw lots of criticism and the attention of jealous people, which can be useful if you're committed to self refinement. They look a lot harder to find our faults than we do....

1. Acts as filter system that keeps away/removes the need to interact with normal/boring people.

2. Acts as a magnet drawing the interesting people your way

3. Ensures having plenty of unusual things to contemplate

4. Ensures having experiences that the norms will barely consider possible, or desirable ~ Good!

5. Probably goes hand in hand with a unique style/dress sense

6. Teaches out of the box thinking

7. Gives people plenty of good stories to tell about you at your funeral.

Not in academia. Strange is an attribute job wise for dons.

2 Its easier to hook up with the opposite sex

Strange lasses ( or lads) are maybe more fun.

3 You fit in at social events without making folks uncomfortable

Agreed

4 You appear credible as a source of sound decision making

Depends on what you are deciding on. Game designers tend not to wear suits.

5 You will find it easier to lead

Nope. Leaders are definitely 'strange' to the led hence the led follow the leaders, sometimes from curiosity.

6 It doesnt impede your thinking in the least

Strange thinkers are lateral thinkers. Think 'freakonomics' for one example.

7 you will be remembered as harmonious to the group at your funeral

You won't care.

8 You can still contemplate all you want

Agreed

9 you will be a magnet for other people who are also well adjusted

Beige n boring folks flock together too.

10 You wont have to make up false benefits of acting abnormal

Eh?

Eh? What?

Im agreeing with 3bob .

Not in academia. Strange is an attribute job wise for dons.

I disagree with that as a general rule here at least ,I dont think folks dont easily trust weirdos and give them grants or tenure , ,,It probably depends on in what way one was odd.

Nope. Leaders are definitely 'strange' to the led hence the led follow the leaders, sometimes from curiosity.

I believe folks more often follow conservative leaders rather than weirdos ,out of 'curiosity'.

Strange thinkers are lateral thinkers. Think 'freakonomics' for one example

Possibly , but they may also be more likely to be malcontents

Beige n boring folks flock together too.

Probably true , but is a person 'strange' if they put on goth makeup to fit with a goth crowd?

I didn't understand what that last one meant.

My bad.

What does it mean please?

All the others I commented on in the main post under the original statements.

For some reason that Eh? has appeared outside the box with the rest of my replies in.

Oh, I didnt see your sub-edits originally

Lets start over :)

I think some of the advantages being posted for acting 'really strange' are bogus claims

If a person is accepted and 'normal' I dont think theyd have to make such false claims.

From what I hear , people dont want to be weirdos , theyd give anything to be normal !

Oh is it supposed to be fun and wonderful , to be missing body parts , blurting things out with tourettes

ostracized for mental illness , albino , hugely fat, hairy faced (re: women) ,the only person of a religious group or race , in a congregation? etc etc

No I think folks generally want to be normal, and they have good reason to want to be seen as normal , but that they in their personal life away from the criticisms of the cruel , well then youd be free just to be you.

The advice that youre supposed to subject yourself to ridicule , to be 'genuine' in everyone elses face , is bad. If folks were so well accepted being themselves , you wouldnt have to suggest that they pursue it.

Isn't 'normal' what people play at being when amongst acquaintances whereas we're different amongst close friends and loved ones.

I know some seemingly buttoned up people at work who are right little ravers on the weekend and during vacations.

:)
