Has to - being the operative concept.

I'm an outlaw, here - so my howdys need to be brief.

They'll dwindle over time - such is the way of Tao. (-:

Cheers!

Back during the great purge, it was posted by the owner that those of a certain inclination were not welcome here, and to GTFO.  His house, his rules. Sometimes I like to pop in & say hi, maybe just to break them.  B)

I, for one, wish you'd break them more regularly!

(Every once in a while I read a news story about how some outrageous stodgy old law is still on the books somewhere even though society has long moved on.  No selling liquor on a Sunday. Don't tie your horse up to the fencepost at the general store.  This is how I regard Sean's once-upon-a-time proclamation, as a legal relic that has yet to be reversed but isn't actively enforced.)

I feel the same as Luke.

You said I was a cancer.

No reason to stay after that.

Or return, for that matter.

Peace out.

You're not a cancer, @rene, and I appreciate you and wish you wanted to contribute more -- though I respect your wish not to.  That said, you do have a way with a bow and arrow.  Ouch!

It's hard to imagine now, but there was a time when the forum was dominated by political conversation, with our more conservative members largely holding sway.  Nothing wrong with being a conservative (I've been leaning embarrasingly rightward myself lately) but some of the more right wing Bums -- not you, Rene -- were downright dismissive of other opinions.  How many times were we lefties referred to as "snowflakes?"  I started to think, based on my experience here, that Daoists were almost exclusively Republicans.  Democrats were ridiculed, to say nothing of our upstanding Socialist members and their more radical ilk.  It was only after the purge, when leftists once again dared show their faces, that I realized one could both practice Tai Chi and dislike Trump.  All this is to say that I understand why Sean acted as he did.  I never agreed with him but I understood.  A great deal was lost post-purge and we're still dealing with the consequences, the loss of many wonderful members, hurt feelings.  But who knows what might have been lost if lopsided conditions had been allowed to continue.

I wouldn't describe any Bums as cancerous, though I've had my struggles with a few over the years.  But what might be cancerous is the wrongheaded conviction that my side is right and the other side unequivocally wrong.  What might be cancerous is lack of empathy for those who see the world differently.  We were suffering with that cancer before the purge and we suffer with it still, but muddle on as best we can.

May we all recognize the goodness in each other's hearts (even if we continue to ask what-could-they possibly be thinking?).

Did I?

I don't recall ever feeling that way about you personally and have no recollection of calling you a cancer.

I did, and do, feel that way about the fake-conservative, fake-christian, alt-right fascist movement in US politics.

It directly threatens the lives and well being of millions of women, non-whites, immigrants, and LGBTQ human beings in my country, including many close friends and family.

If you identify with that group of sick authoritarian bullies then there's not much more for me to say other than good riddance.

Somehow I can't picture you as a part of that cult but one never knows.

I have nothing against you personally and genuinely apologize for offending you.

I've never felt anything but warmth for you in my heart and I have always enjoyed your presence and contributions here.

All that said, I feel less connection to the forum lately. I've taken an indefinite break from moderating and if it's me keeping you away, that may not be much of an issue moving forward.

I was sorry to read this, for purely selfish reasons. You gave me some excellent feedback as a mod, which has been very useful to me in my life. But of course you have to do what’s best for you in this. Thank you Steve, for all the good work. Wishing you well.

Crazy begets crazy.  It's an infection easy to catch especially when things get hot.  The worst symptoms are mouth flappin and fingers twitching foolishly, nastily; trying to win a prize that doesn't exist.

Time, tolerance and  forgiveness are cures, as is planting and replanting the simple seeds of friendship.  The site is too big and too good for 'isms.
