That was earlier in its life.  Later when they got lazy and hired illegal aliens to do their work for them is what I'm talking about.

Yeah , thats one of the many reasons experts put foward to explain, revolving around having a unified cultural center ,and the lack of it.

I have never done a study of that concept myself but it is what I picked up over many years of reading Rome's history.

Seems to me London is headed in the same direction along with the West Coast of the USA.

yet again the report gives us no clue as why the man was stabbed - which leaves us with the impression that the attacks are just random acts of violence.

Other than drugs and gangs I think it's also a culture of violence as, no doubt, many of the people/kids involved had no father figure and therefore use the violent stereotypes from different media as their roles models. What's sad is that some of these people are probably sensitive caring people that are just railroaded by peer pressure into doing and acting in ways they normally wouldn't even consider. I think we can comfortably blame it on the state! Well and perhaps the parent/s to an extent.

You would think it important enough for investigative journalists to uncover the basic issues here.  Then perhaps there's a chance of tackling the problem properly.

Yeah, we have the same problem here in the USA.  Media and government tell us only what they want us to know.  I think your home might be a little worse than here in the USA though.

Police call for changes to stop and search laws

Top story: Fears minorities may be disproportionately targeted
This is Alison Rourke bringing you Monday’s top stories to start the week.

Police chiefs want to broaden their stop and search powers by lowering the level of suspicion an officer needs to use the powers in England and Wales. Scrapping the “reasonable grounds” test is controversial, because black people are around nine times more likely to be targeted than white people, by a police force that remains disproportionately white. The vast majority of those stopped turn out to be innocent and Theresa May, while home secretary, was concerned it eroded the trust ethnic minorities have in the police and Britain as a fair society.

But rising concerns over knife killings – particularly in London – had prompted discussions on a new approach to the stop and search. Adrian Hanstock, the deputy chief constable of the British Transport Police said the new laws could fit better with a fresh approach to violent crime where it is treated as a public health issue, and not one solely for the criminal justice system. “The outcome of a positive search does not have to be a criminal justice solution. What’s the alternative? It could be a health or welfare approach.”

I don't see how they will have time to monitor Twitter and Facebook if they are stopping and searching too much.

Two die on New Year's Day in London, after worst year in a decade for murders

fter London suffered its most deadly year in a decade in 2018, it was hoped the new year would prove to be a catalyst for change.

But 2019 was a little more than four hours old when the capital claimed it's first suspected murder victim.

A woman was stabbed to death in the early hours of New Year's Day at a property on John Ruskin Street, in Camberwell, south London.

The woman, aged in her early 30s, was pronounced dead at 4.50am after paramedics tried for half an hour to save her life.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody at a south London police station.

Minutes later, a security guard was stabbed to death and three others injured as they tried to bar a group of men from entering a New Year's Eve party in London's West End.

Emergency services were called to the property on Park Lane in Westminster at around 5.30am on following reports of violence.

The victim, believed to be in his early 30s, died of his injuries and two other men - aged 37 and 29 - and a 29-year-old woman were also injured.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Partridge said: "The incident took place outside a venue that was hosting a private party.

"It appears the deceased and the two injured males were working as security staff for the party, they were attacked by a group of males who were outside trying to enter the venue.

"The female was also attacked as she assisted the security staff in closing the front door of the premises.

"This shocking incident happened just hours into a New Year, the area was particularly busy with people out celebrating and making their way home from various parties and organised events."

Meanwhile, a woman was shot in the leg as she partied at Visions Video Bar in Hackney, east London, in the early hours of New Years Day. She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. On New Year's Eve, Scotland Yard confirmed there had been 134 homicides over the course of 2018, a figure including both murder and manslaughter.

Murder on the 12.58 to Waterloo: Horror as knifeman stabs a passenger in the neck after a fight on board a train from Guildford to London before fleeing at the next station

A passenger has been stabbed to death on board a train to London in front of horrified travellers this afternoon.

Detectives have launched a murder enquiry after the man, thought to be in his 50s, was knifed once in the neck on the 12.58pm service travelling from Guildford to Waterloo.

Despite desperate attempts from paramedics the man died at the scene, while the  attacker is thought to have got off the train and fled into the surrounding Clandon area - just one stop into the Surrey to London journey.

We might wonder if this attacker was a drug dealer (See: County lines drug dealing epidemic in England) or perhaps just a nutter? It's a very sad state of affairs in this country if taking a train journey is unsafe. I would image there's some majorly traumatised individuals as there must have been a very large amount of blood.

unsafe is best measured statistically.  Take train journeys.  Are the odds of not getting there safely, ie stabbed during a ride, 1 in 1,000's, 10,000s, millions or 10's of millions?  These things can be quantified.  Knowing the odds makes living life safer without being traumatized by highly unlikely events.  There's a good chance that riding on the rails is many times safer then riding in a car, cause 1,000s of people die in car accidents, or is 10,000's in your country (hint its roughly 1.25 million people a day world wide**).  Probably you should be much much much much more afraid of driving in a car then being stabbed, but the point is take the time do the math.

Right off the bat, what's your assumption of the odds?

Then find out, how many people ride a year, and how many are stabbed on a train.

** note this internet 'statistic' I wrote is wrong, by a huge margin and should logically been caught.  Cause 1.25 million a day would be = 456,250,000 (456 million) dying each year.  The human race would be wiped and cartoon cars would rule the day in a decade and a half.  The correct is 1.25 million a year.  Unless that too is incorrect, but it probably isn't or is at least close.

Knife crime: Fatal stabbings at highest level since records began in 1946

The number of fatal stabbings in England and Wales last year was the highest since records began in 1946, official figures show.

There were 285 killings by a knife or sharp instrument in the 12 months ending March 2018, Office for National Statistics analysis shows.

The number is the highest since records began in 1946.

The ONS says the largest increase in victims was seen among young men and boys.

The figures show a 45% increase in the number of victims aged 16-24 and a 23% increase in those aged 25-34.

They also show 25% of victims of fatal stabbings during the period were black - the highest proportion since the data was first collected in 1997.

Things have indeed reached a sad state.

This is why we are in need of a new dynamic Mayor in London who will bring back a sense of law, order, pride and integrity to our capitol city. This is why we need Eddie Izzard as Mayor of London.

Even though I can't stick Izzard he couldn't do any worse than the previous mayors! :)

Let's be honest he's really pathetic as he'd not even half pretty so who's he kidding?  Hmm attention seeking type like that Brand prat!

Unfortunately Eddie will not now be throwing his cap in the ring and Khan will stand again in 2020. As might be expected the Tory candidate and great white hope is already running into trouble over alleged remards made against Muslims.

Shaun Bailey though a big, black fella is unlikely to have the legs to outrun a good old Muslim like Sadiq. Not in Londonistan at least.
