Amount of likes on daobums, naturally. But on the real, vibes, basically. At times i meet people who clearly function at a much higher level on conciousness than I. What traits do they tend to have... presence, kindness, humility, a tremendious ability to know what to say and what not to say. A spark in the eye. Also, I get a strong sense that they are able to read my mind... They never judge. Seem to have strong life force/vitality. Yeah, something along these lines, I think. So Cobies response is quite good, I think: they "smile". Are gentle and kind. What more can you ask for, really. Would anyone like to attempt to define the term?

i avoid using "spirit" altogether because it has too many secular meanings, and it is redolent of "ghosts" and the astral plane. i avoid using "soul" because it is for me too imprecise. so i tend to be wordier and more specific along the lines of "the part of the human that is infinte and non-physical" (in contrast to the human body which is physical and finite. "the part of you that existed before the body was born, and exists after the body dies" "spark of the Divine" "not bound by space or time or form" "immortal" and "eternal" are sometimes used, but at the level of the Divine spark, and at the level of the Divine, there is no time, so "living forever" does not really apply. good thread topic, you are asking good questions. looking forward to reading more.

Yes, that's the way to go about . read up on the planets and what they represent , then the houses they are in then the aspects they have with each other . Its tricky at first but after a little time it all starts coming together . When you have that down start adding the other planets and aspects and influences . Eventually it will be like a jigsaw puzzle, bits and patches of the picture will start to emerge . Eventually it should all fit together in your understanding ... like a giant kaleidoscope of 'person' . Then if you want to go further , you can turn the kaleidoscope and watch it change ( that's the daily or current chart . ) Then you can superimpose your natal over the daily - then you have transits . ... but that's in the future , don't rush ahead , get solid on the basics . ..... how do you feel today

... I seem, then, in just this little thing to be wiser than this man at any rate, that what I do not know I do not think I know either. [Henry Cary literal translation of 1897] Edit: forgot to add what text the above is a translation of aha, it is from Platos "apology," qouting Socrates

imo the mind is part of the body and dies with the body. I am the soul that lives on after death.

I’m half way there by knowing I’m not enlightened.

imo soul and spirit are synonyms. The word ‘soul’ has Germanic roots; the word ‘spirit has Latin roots. Hence imo French having only the spirit form.

Hey TTBs, I've learned Zhan Zhuang from Master Lam Kam Chuen and have learned some other "versions" of it from other masters from other lineages. But I've found the version I've learned from Master Lam Kam Chuen fits me best. I've just been practicing the basic forms and practices, not going into movement or advanced practices. I forgot when I've started practicing it. Like maybe 17 years ago or so. I find some other Taoist and Tibetan Buddhist practices useful as well. Have a good day everyone :))

Spirit and soul, what is it and what differentiates them? it depends on the tradition.
  13. 1 point
I’m sure. I’ve kinda thought of the soul as yes, the immortal part of you, but also as the mind and awareness in a way. Btw. I have also started a thread about soul and spirit recently in general discussion. I’d be happy to hear your thoughts.

Hope you don't mind - I split this question from the thread you posted in. There is a lot of dark, angry baggage there that would probably detract from your question. _/\_

unborn, unformed, uncreated, unchanging, no beginning, no end, no time, no space, no form always was and always will be the part of you that existed before the body was born, and continues to exist after the body dies. the part of you that existed before the universes appeared, and continues to exst after the universes are gone spark of the Divine

So if im not my body… nor my mind… what am I? The soul? What is the soul?

We got lots of wild dogs here . Sometimes I hear them across the river at night in the forest . One crossed over the other night and nabbed a neighbors chicken ... that must have been a rare treat ! No other trouble though .

Don't ask Lairg about it then ! When all else is defeated .... " Look Ralis ! I just KNOW ... okay ! " First they start with language , a challenge , some theory and logic . When that is met or pointed out to be wrong , sometimes even in their own 'field' and explanation .... its a 'default position ' ... " I just KNOW I am right ... ok !" This the way of the world nowadays or they don't answer , and go off elsewhere to do it all over again . and they will get likes ... and you be unpop . (and I don't mean you will get younger ) But I ask ... what 'diamond clarity ' perception does one own ... where 'just knowing' is pure and not influenced by that very 'knowing apparatus', its development upbringing and conditioning , in the first place ? THAT would seem a mistake of denying ANY ego influence . .

    Its effected some archaeology as well , especially in my area of specialty ; south Central Asia / ancient Margiana Archaeological Complex / BMAC / 'Oxus Civilisation' . Previously access was a little difficult , but one could 'play ball' with the Soviets , once you were 'in' you only had to deal with the central authority . Now one has to deal with Uzbekistan , Tajikistan and ( forget it ! ) Afghanistan to gain access to what was previously one area . (And it is just as bad the other way around .... back then one Soviet archaeologist specialist in that area was invited to USA for a conference . he was taken on sightseeing trip as well and like tourists do he was taking photo ... and talking in a Russian accent . later he got all messed up in some 'spy ' BS until his US counterpart professor bailed him out . ) And the most relevant parts ? Forget it ; aside from the difficulties of terrain isolation and weather ..... i the political / military situation there is near impossible . There has been one recent doco on it though ;

A joke from my Persian boss about being a new migrant and trying to understand English ; " A man rushes into hardware store ; " Quick, sell me potato clock ! " Assistant; " I'm sorry a what ? " " A potato clock ... quick ! Or my boss sack me .... I need job bad ." " Hang on I am not understanding you ... slow down and tell me what you want ?" " I don't understand , all new and confusing . My boss tell me quick I get a potato clock or I get the sack from new job, I don't understand please help me ! " " You better tell me the whole story, that might make it clear on what he wants . " " Yes, ok, very good ... my name is Massoud, I come from Iran , I have work visa . I get a nice flat nearby and luck, I also get good job, just around the corner , near flat, I can walk to work . I start work at 9 am , so easy, I get up 8:30 ... easy to make on time . But I want to look good for first day , so iron best clothes , have good shower, deodorant, shave , after shave , do hair ... shine shoes ... I get carried away ... turn up 9;10 . Boss very unhappy he ask 'Massoud ! I give you job and you turn up 10 minutes late on first day ! Why ?" So I explain to him what happened , how I get up 8;30 but it took too long as I want to make ready for a good impression and that's when boss say to me ; " Well Massoud , if you want to keep your job ... you better get a potato clock !

it has a dim view on life, e. g. Ecclesiastes 4:3, “But better than both is the one who has never been born, who has not seen the evil that is done under the sun.” NT also e.g. “For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!'". https://biblehub.com/text/luke/23-29.htm

Solomon supposedly suffered some form or degree of doubt that can twist into relative madness when he said, "vanity of vanities, all is vanity". Some background from the Bible below: "The phrase "vanity of vanities, all is vanity" from Ecclesiastes in the Bible" signifies the ultimate meaninglessness and futility of earthly pursuits and possessions. It suggests that worldly achievements, pleasures, and even wisdom, when viewed apart from a relationship with God, are ultimately empty and transient. The Hebrew word "hevel," often translated as "vanity," also means breath, vapor, or fleetingness, emphasizing the impermanence of worldly things." ...but I'd say that is not the end of that and or his story.....which one can see if reading further into Ecclesiastes.

Most of this area , aside from the coast has little development . The whole country is a bit like that . Many don't realize, including Aussies . Now we seem to have a mass of smaller National Parks all over the place . The green bits : Map Apps ! Some one registered their business at our address and wanted it located on Google maps . Now the map shows a star where that business is supposed to be ... its way up the back of the property in the wild, with no road or track to it ! The people that live in the last house 'up the back ' have an old logging track that goes behind their place up to the back ridge' . Sometimes they notice a car going up that should not be - meaning a nice, new clean low car ... that gets stuck . When asked why they were there , their satellite navigation directed them there to go to the business . And a weirder one . I was looking at a map and if I do a run up the mountain, out to the north east , cut across some forestry, national parks and farmland I can come down the highland and into Coffs Harbour at the north . yet on the map, the southern extent of Coffs harbor goes west . Why did it never expand a bit more, over that ridge into the next area and valley ? That valley runs north for ages , parallel to the coast . That whole area is closed access for everyone that lives there and getting farm produce out and supplies in , takes a long journey north up that valley , then around to the east to go down this road north of the city . A 1 km new road linking the two would make it a 10 minute trip . Maybe the map is confusing me , so I went to satellite map ... looks the same .... if one could just 'hop over that hill ' . So me being curious as I am went for a ride out there to check it out . So here is the gist ; when I get there ( from the city side ) .... the road ends and looking up a grass hill I see a tree line . That is where, on the map, it goes down the other side into this 'isolated valley ' , I am still flummoxed; 'Why did they never build that little bit of road ? Then coming back I see the property nearest to it has some paddocks with cows in it and driveway that goes up in that general direction and it has a big hand painted angry looking sign . 'private property , this is a driveway to my house NOT to the valley on the other side SAT NAV IS WRONG ! DO NOT enter . ' One gets the impression that several people have been directed by sat nav up there ,. So how did THAT get into the system ... did sat nav AI (or whatever the hell it is ) look at the map like I did and decide a road SHOULD be there ... so it 'is ' ? Weird ! I want nothing to do with it ! Once I had to drive a work van full of high tech very expensive camera equipment from Brisbane to Sydney ... half way the God dam thing is screaming at me that I have gone off road and driving through farmland , the map screen is flashing and you can see the road way over there away from the car . But my own senses are telling me I am driving down a four lane highway ! Its the beginning of the end I tell ya ! We need Magnus ! Damn AI sat nav BS ... take this ... and this ....

Thanks Nungali for the open road ride video! That put a smile on me face. Btw, some of that area looked pretty remote, with probably little cell phone service to call for help if one's bike or rig broke down? There are still quite a few places like that in the US but one needs to make decent preparation if going out into "boonies". (as in a dependable ride, some water, food, basic tools a full gas tank and appropriate clothing for the conditions) I've also found that some map apps can not be counted on 100% or to be very clear and could land one who knows where in remoter areas, or not even that remote of an area. For instance I pulled a family car and the father out of a snow drifted road with my old 4x4 one winter. The father somehow followed an app that took him, his wife and kids off the main highway onto a secondary road and then onto a gravel road (!) that had very little traffic where they got stuck for 2-3 days and freezing while staying inside their vehicle. Lucky for him a sheriff that patrolled that area now and then found them and took them into town. When they got to town they were helped out with a place to stay and food since they were almost broke. No way the guy had $1000-1500 bucks for a wrecker to pull his car out which is when a local volunteer organization which I know of heard about the situation and asked for my help which I was able to give. To top it off the father did not speak English and his wife only a slight amount; but fortunately my bilingual neighbor came along as an interpreter when we went to pull their car out. Speaking of the snow, the ice was even worse with spots where my 4x4 could hardly get traction, while I'm thinking to myself please don't also get stuck here! Things ended up fine and they soon continued down the main highway after saying a nice thank you.

I got one of those ... not the Kwaka* (niiiiiice ! - by the way ) , but the home . parked at local shop having a drink , a couple of riders are refulling about to go 'up the mountain' one of the premier rides on the east coast . One of them, to me " You are riding light ! " ( no bags, back pack , no full riding suit ) "yeah ... I'm a local ." The look ! Gotta mate that rides and lives in the city - 40 mins of traffic and lights to get anywhere enjoyable . * mine ; But with lowered seat and hot dog muffler . TRy from 1:50 , going from the southern end of the plateau 'over the edge ' (down the mountain ) .

I didn't even remember this thread! It was a trip to see this brought back! My spiritual journey started with Eckhart Tolle via A New Earth and the Power of Now. I have re-visited Tolle a little bit in recent years. It was quite shocking to read and re-visit these years of my life. One of the traps I was in back then was not taking certain aspects of my mental-psycho-social life as self, and thinking that was nonself... and then re-ifying my "pain-body" formed around loss, relationships, etc. Big thanks to (formerly) Steve, Stirling, and all of the other good folks who offered me words of wisdom and direct encouragement. It meant a lot to me. Best wishes to you all.

Not search engine. Amazon searching for body armor. There are so many knife attacks in places like the UK. I wondered if chain mail would be a good option for daily wear. If it could be worn underneath normal clothing comfortably. If daily body armor wear became standard. Why not wear other types of body armor. Maybe if the apocalypse happens, we'll all be wearing some type of body armor. To protect against wild dogs if nothing else.

Possibly far north in the Volga Delta and then into the Central Steppe area . But that general area , especially to the south and into Ukraine had some of the largest human settlements of the time .... vast ! yet little known as they did not 'classify;' ( in the resent past ) as 'civilizations' . New Research Suggests Ukraine May Precede Mesopotamia as Home of First Cities

Why New York City’s Crime Rates Are the Lowest in Modern History In 1990, more than 2,200 people were murdered in the city. Last year, it was less than 300. By Rebecca Gibian January 11, 2018 Back in 1990, New Yorkers might not be able to fathom a time when murder wouldn’t be part of their daily lives. That year, more than 2,200 people were murdered in New York City. But after three decades of declines, the murder rate in 2017 was down to 290. The significant change marks a trend that has been occurring for 27 straight years: violent crime in the city keeps dropping in every borough. “(This year) will go down in history as the safest year we’ve seen in nearly seven decades, that span covers three generations of New Yorkers,” said Commissioner James P. O’Neill, of the New York Police Department, during a year-end crime press briefing held at NYPD Headquarters on Jan. 5. https://www.insidehook.com/culture/crime-rates-in-nyc-the-lowest-in-modern-history
