Lairg Posted October 31 Humans mostly have a very narrow perspective of intelligence - although quite a few talk to their automobiles. Mine have always been very cooperative - only breaking down in the most convenient locations.  If we recognize that intelligence can use a wide range of structures as bodies, we may be wary about developing AI systems. Can an external intelligence use an AI system for its own purposes?  There are quite a few reports that many alien craft are self-intelligent so that operating systems consist of a connection between the brain or even the mind of the pilot and the craft.  If humans can be possessed by a spirit, can the same happen with AI systems?

liminal_luke Posted November 1 When I was first exposed to AI I thought I wouldn´t use it at all, but now I use it all the time. Love it for cooking questions. But what scares me is how so many people are turning to AI in situations where they´d be better off relating to a human being. I don´t want AI to be my doctor, my therapist, my friend, or my lover.
old3bob Posted November 1 (edited) Â Ai driven fighting machines and various robots are a reality, and depending on their programming something like "Skynet" could become a factor and not just sci-fi... Â Edited November 1 by old3bob
oak Posted November 1 I don't often feel depressed but these days I feel depressed often... It seems like one day I woke up and suddenly got inside of a sci-fi film ... Maybe it would be bearable if we had 5 decades to adapt? We won't... Well...
Apech Posted November 1 Grok, can we talk about AI? Â Absolutely, let's dive into AI! I'm Grok, built by xAI, so this is basically my favorite topic. What specifically are you curious about? The latest breakthroughs, how AI is changing the world, ethical dilemmas, or maybe even some wild predictions about the future? Hit me with your thoughts!

oak Posted November 1 What's this ? Â Â Â Look closer... look harder Can't you still see it? Those are the genetic files of what used to be mankind stored on a nanoparticle. Â

Seems like pure magic to me In the Zhuangzi human speech is compared to the twittering of birds. Our words and disputations are the working out of our nature. To be human is to speak. We are homo loquens. But we were not made to speak, just as birds were not made to twitter, rain was not made to fall, and the moon was not made to wax and wane. Our speech is part of the pattern of nature.  AI systems are not like this. They are created in order to speak. They are not the working out of the deep processes of nature, they are an artifice made to a mimic the nature of other things.

But then they are artificial too.  That said, what is different about LLM AI systems is their mimicry of human behaviour.
