Iskote Posted yesterday at 08:16 PM The abbot of Shaolin temple has apparently been arrested in China for embezzlement, and it is also claimed he has many illegitimate children. I saw some headlines that stated the Shaolin abbot has already been replaced with a new abbot now due to this. BREAKING: The Head of the Shaolin Temple Just Got Arrested For those who may not be aware, many of the '$haolin' and 'Daoi$t' martial arts schools in China that cater to foreign and local students are really just for profit businesses, and some/many involved with those businesses are not exactly pillars of authenticity and morality. After the cultural revolution such traditions were pretty much wiped in mainland China. What exists now is largely for profit businesses. Potential students beware. Gerard Posted yesterday at 09:37 PM Not only in the sacred mountains and adjacent areas like the Shaolin temple but in the big cities. For example my teacher saw one of the priests dressed up in smart clothes and waiting for the bus near the White Cloud Temple in Beijing. Two hours earlier he first saw him wearing robes in the temple. He approached him and asked why he was wearing casual clothes, his reply was: 'I have to go to work. The Chinese Gov. pays me a wage to wear robes in the temple!" Basically the are lay people payed to pose as fake priests. He wasn't impressed about what he saw in some of the sacred mountains he visited. It's all tourism and fake Taoism to lure naive Westerners.
Iskote Posted 23 hours ago I think there are some who are genuinely trying to keep some of these old traditions going, but they may be harder to find.
Vajra Fist Posted 23 hours ago (edited) There's still some good stuff around the shaolin area. Wugulan style under Wu Nanfang and Shi Dejian. Shaolin xinyiba under Hu Zhengsheng. Both styles are internal and trace back to the temple before the revolution. Edited 23 hours ago by Vajra Fist
Gerard Posted 15 hours ago Obviously, but my point was that there is no need to travel to the far east to find a good teacher. When the student is ready... That's how I found mine, in a suburban park of Brisbane, Australia. I wouldn't travel to China even if they pay me to learn from an stranger plus the following: https://waqi.info/#/c/2.761/11.953/1z
Lairg Posted 13 hours ago Long ago my wife was having Qigong lessons in New Farm park. She was taught to pull the life force out of trees without asking permission. I did not think that proper

There are videos showing Buddhist monks are all in luxurious cars.

Born in Hong Kong. Grew up on the lower east side of Manhattan. Went to China on vacation and met a woman who became my wife (married 29 years now). And if someone wants to pay me to travel to China then would take it. If anyone wants to pay my travel expenses then yeah, would go. The old saying is travel expands the mind. Learning from stranger?? If one thinks about it, ... No one stranger than the Buddha? And once you meet someone then you are no longer strangers? So, no problem for me to learn from people since being open to learn from others is the best way to be. I am glad you found a good teacher near you.
