I´m something of a bear myself and I have trouble with it; twinks, on the other hand, are inveterate repeaters.

Solomon supposedly suffered some form or degree of doubt that can twist into relative madness when he said,  "vanity of vanities, all is vanity".  Some background from the Bible below:

"The phrase "vanity of vanities, all is vanity" from Ecclesiastes in the Bible" signifies the ultimate meaninglessness and futility of earthly pursuits and possessions. It suggests that worldly achievements, pleasures, and even wisdom, when viewed apart from a relationship with God, are ultimately empty and transient. The Hebrew word "hevel," often translated as "vanity," also means breath, vapor, or fleetingness, emphasizing the impermanence of worldly things."

...but I'd say that is not the end of that and or his story.....which one can see if reading further into Ecclesiastes.

it has a dim view on life, e. g. Ecclesiastes 4:3, “But better than both is the one who has never been born, who has not seen the evil that is done under the sun.”  NT  also  e.g. “For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!'". https://biblehub.com/text/luke/23-29.htm

it’s not “madness”, for lots of people, true fulfillment is not found in earthly pursuits but in a relationship with God.

Wow, never seen a truck and trailers set up that long ------------------------------------------------------ !

As for back in the old days many of us were poor but still had a relatively good times (like in nature),  and didn't have to concern ourselves with a lot of the stuff that is going on now,  like almost weekly school and other random shootings that are horrific to the max!!   Btw,  now some of the powers that be want to turn teachers into armed cops at school without them being qualified as cops!!

And that is partially on the gun corporations for pushing guns 24/7 to everyone for maximum profit, along with nixing lots of reasonable safety ideas and laws for civilian gun ownership....almost no one needs a 30-50 round magazine semi-automatic combat type gun at home that can cheaply be turned into near automatic!   Except for maybe off duty swat officers or cops on call.  Good God!

Well ... you might  ..... if 'commies' start swarming out your drain inlets !

( I saw a movie with that in it once .... a Russian invasion that landed on the coast and soldiers went up all the drain and sewer outlets  and emerged in peoples yards, parking lots  ......

:D

Your implication is I don't have the experience? Big Sky does?

Don't ask Lairg about it then !

When all else is defeated ....

" Look Ralis !   I just  KNOW  ... okay ! "

First they start with  language , a challenge , some theory and logic .  When that is met or pointed out to be wrong , sometimes even in their own 'field' and explanation .... its a 'default position '  ... " I just KNOW I am right ... ok !"

This the way of the world nowadays

or they don't answer , and go off elsewhere to do it all over again .

and they will get likes ... and you be unpop .  (and I don't mean you will get younger )

But I ask  ... what 'diamond clarity ' perception does one own ... where 'just knowing' is pure and not influenced by that very 'knowing apparatus', its development upbringing and conditioning ,   in the first place ?

THAT  would seem a mistake of denying ANY ego influence .

and that is a perfect example of 'black school Gnosticism '

For me , the lesson in Ecclesiates is  not to finish it !  The actual answer is  not to have empires, wives,  riches, etc etc

It is to do a good hard days work that achieves something and at the end of the day to relax with a glass of wine (or whatever ) and contemplate the good works you have done that day . (  Ecc ,  2:24 )

Going back the past sixty years,

"Same as it ever was"

The one thing that's been the same force over these past sixty years and continuing on,,,is that thing Ike warned us about.

Like they say at the Pentagon, "one monkey don't stop the show"

Deception, evil, maniacal madmen and women, always find a way to the top of political power.

"spiritual cultivation" or work also requires hard fought battles besides what could be called the contemplative niceties...who gave anyone the idea that it doesn't??

(for instance speaking truth to corrupted power)

I´m of the opinion that if we´re gonna talk about Voldemort and his loyal band of Death Eaters, we might as well say the Name.  There´s no special virtue in cloaking words in a symbolic and easily seen through vagueness.  Which is not to say it is not a smart move, legally speaking.

a level of spiritual progress is indicated, when someone is able to step away from stances that are condemning and judgmental.

In a rare showing of inter-tribal cooperation, my town threw a big bonfire to rid library shelves of suspicious tomes.  Local trad wives made Youtube videos of themselves throwing copies of "Heather Has Two Mommies" into the flames, while drag queens, not to be out done, burned everything by that insufferable TERF, Rowling.  Alas, the last copy of "Harry Potter and the Old3bob of Doom" perished in the flames -- but I´m trying to get it through inter-library loan.

(in case there´s any doubt, this is a tongue-in-cheek post)

Clearly Jesus hadn’t attained much spiritual progress then, evidenced by his condemnation of the Pharisees.

Spoiler

Jesus Condemns the Pharisees and the Teachers of the Law of Moses

(Mark 12.38-40; Luke 11.37-52; 20.45-47)

23 Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:

The Pharisees and the teachers of the Law are experts in the Law of Moses. So obey everything they teach you, but don't do as they do. After all, they say one thing and do something else.

They pile heavy burdens on people's shoulders and won't lift a finger to help.  Everything they do is just to show off in front of others. They even make a big show of wearing Scripture verses on their foreheads and arms, and they wear big tassels[a] for everyone to see. They love the best seats at banquets and the front seats in the synagogues. And when they are in the market, they like to have people greet them as their teachers.

But none of you should be called a teacher. You have only one teacher, and all of you are like brothers and sisters. Don't call anyone on earth your father. All of you have the same Father in heaven. 10 None of you should be called the leader. The Messiah is your only leader. 11  Whoever is the greatest should be the servant of the others. 12  If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.

13-14 You Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. You won't go in yourselves, and you keep others from going in.[b]

15 You Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You travel over land and sea to win one follower. And when you have done so, you make that person twice as fit for hell as you are.

16 You are in for trouble! You are supposed to lead others, but you are blind. You teach that it doesn't matter if a person swears by the temple. But you say it does matter if someone swears by the gold in the temple. 17 You blind fools! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold sacred?

18 You also teach that it doesn't matter if a person swears by the altar. But you say it does matter if someone swears by the gift on the altar. 19 Are you blind? Which is more important, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 Anyone who swears by the altar also swears by everything on it. 21 And anyone who swears by the temple also swears by God, who lives there. 22  To swear by heaven is the same as swearing by God's throne and by the one who sits on that throne.

23  You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your garden, such as mint, dill, and cumin. Yet you neglect the more important matters of the Law, such as justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These are the important things you should have done, though you should not have left the others undone either. 24 You blind leaders! You strain out a small fly but swallow a camel.

25 You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You wash the outside of your cups and dishes, while inside there is nothing but greed and selfishness. 26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of a cup, and then the outside will also be clean.

27  You Pharisees and teachers are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You're like tombs that have been whitewashed.[c] On the outside they are beautiful, but inside they are full of bones and filth. 28 That's what you are like. Outside you look good, but inside you are evil and only pretend to be good.

29 You Pharisees and teachers are nothing but show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You build monuments for the prophets and decorate the tombs of good people. 30 And you claim you would not have taken part with your ancestors in killing the prophets. 31 But you prove you really are the relatives of the ones who killed the prophets. 32 So keep on doing everything they did. 33  You are nothing but snakes and the children of snakes! How can you escape going to hell?

34 I will send to you prophets and wise people and experts in the Law of Moses. You will kill them or nail them to a cross or beat them in your synagogues or chase them from town to town. 35  That's why you will be held guilty for the murder of every good person, beginning with the good man Abel. This also includes Barachiah's son Zechariah,[d] the man you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 I can promise that you people living today will be punished for all these things!

"judge not lest ye be judged" is in pretty much every holy book, for a reason

for instance in the Pali canon:

"Therefore, Ānanda, do not be judgmental regarding people. Do not pass judgment on people. Those who pass judgment on people harm themselves.".

— Migasālā Sutta [AN 6:44]  translated from the Pāli by Bhikkhu Bodhi
