Indeed. E.g. Simone de Beauvoir (Tous les hommes sont mortels, 1946) sees immortality as a curse.

Is he holding a “ginseng” root, or are those his long nails?

Yes .

 After 100 years of being an herbalist , one's nails start to turn into ginseng  roots .

 ( Old Chinese proverb ) .

:lol: This is what I see on the whole thread: … quibble and squabble

:P

Now hang on  ....  the art of quibbling  is the real old original and only valid  word from the ancient Mastodonian  .   Squabble is based on a quibble but  they stole the word and changed the spelling  to distinguish the difference in culture .  Understanding speling is all important .

Dont believe me ... go ask a Mastodonion

I don't know, but I feel that this is ginseng.

I think so too. That leaves only two fairly short nails visible. Are there any other pictures of him?

Maybe, it is written in book that several poses photos were taken, but I am not aware of other than this one.

Hmm … some see a problem with that:

Mortality has benefits and problems .... immortality has benefits and problems  .

One of the  advantages immortality and power  has   is in relationship disputes   .... as  one of the Vampires  demonstrated in that film  ;

He has a slave who must do his bidding , he has promised immortality to her in exchange  ...  but   he has been hedging on it .  She takes it up with him ;   ' What about MY immortality , you run around having fun eternally , while I have to find you victims  and clean up the mess after you , do your laundry, clean the house  .... no other slave would be as good as I am , why if I left you , you would never be able to  .... "

He circles his palm in front of her face  ' Silence ! '  ,  she rigidly shuts up .

He waves her off   ,  " Begone ! "  , she stands up robotically and walks away .     He turns to the camera and winks  ,  " I love being a vampire .  "

Two old guys talking on a park bench ;

" The wife said , 'What are you doing today ? '    I said.  ' Nuthin ' .

She said , You did that yesterday ! '

I said, 'I ain't finished yet' . "
