And Marines don't have to wash after because they don't pee on their hands.

Emptiness is a situation of potential

potential of whatever could be

When one begins to draw a form from the potential

it negates all the other possibilities

At peace one isnt drawing the paradigms that exclude or motivate away from peace.

One is open to what could be, but is satisfied.

Yes, that is a heavy thought. The key, I think, is after beginning to draw a form we can still all other options as potential. (Change step without losing the cadence.)

Yes, but remember -- you only believe that you are approaching it with an unbiased and open mind. This is indeed a noble goal but beware of unspoken assumptions. wink.gif

laugh.gif we may need to discuss this over a few beers.

Thanks for calling it heavy :) But I doubt its mine :(

I was reading some stuff recently

and finally came to a synthesis

of what a lot of folks have been saying for a long time.

(It never was rocket surgery after all!)

and yep I figure like you that the tao has lots and lots of potential

both our own personal bit of it and Tao at large.

( at least if I assume I know what you are saying, thats what I think, then again the abbreviated and muddled sentences I keep reading left and right, leaves me in doubt that anyone here understands english grammar.

Dont you start!:)

What comes to mind is an episode on Seinfeld

Kramer is pretending to be an automated phone answering system

Moviephone

In the end he breaks with the charade and says

"Why don't you just TELL me what movie you want to see?"

Here is what I was told by my engineering instructor...

A chemist wash the hands before visiting the restroom. A physicist wash the hands after visiting the restroom.

A cook will wash his before. Don't want that hot pepper where you don't!

Edit: Wait a minute Mr MH, are you saying Marines=no hands???

Yes, so is the chemist doesn't want the chemicals where a man doesn't. A physicist is different, he does the most physical thing first..... :D

Anyhow, even 'empty space' isn't empty because it is full of potential.

I thought that marines were fastidious about keeping their personal equipment clean?

Surely a marine would wash his hands first? :)

Please accept my apologies if I have caused offence MH - that was not my intention.

Writing is not my forte and I am often clumsy in my choice of words.

No offence was taken. You would have to try really, really hard to upset me.

You are doing fine. I just wanted to point out that there are differences between a Marine and a Soldier.

And actually, the joke about the Marine not peeing on his hand is from a joke between Sailors and Marines.

Carry on!

"Of all the various 'descriptions' of the Dao, I find this theme of empty/full and its relation to 'function' or 'use' the hardest to grasp."

ponder and wander along your path softly and sincerely and i reckon it will come to you.

The utility of a cup is in its emptiness.

Yeah, you have been around long enough to know that. And so true, we can't be serious all the time as that becomes boring very quickly.
