  1. How can I start the path of cultivation

Welcome to the Dao Bums. A wonderful forum to learn, discuss and cultivate. Below are 3 important sections: Our Rules, The Insult Policy and our 3 Foundations. Before you join give them a read. Most of it boils down to being respectful. No name calling or trolling. Post as if your mom's looking over your shoulder. Discussion and arguments are what the board is about. Keep it civil, don't get personal. Don't be a troll or one issue zealot. We're here for good conversation and make some friends along the way, to be a community. Jump right in, start threads asking questions, look for interesting threads and post your (relevant) thoughts. For the first week you will be restricted to ten posts per day but after that you can post as much as you like. Also, until you’ve posted fifteen times in the forums, you’ll be a “Junior Bum” with somewhat restricted access and will be allowed only two private messages per day. Meditation and practice can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. I'll spend years moving between them; complex mental energy structures, then simple sitting. Back and forth. So, you've got a world to discovery. -The Welcomer & the TDB team Read and review Our Rules: Our Insult Policy- Read it, Live it TheDaoBums' Three Foundations: Eclectic, Egalitarian, Civil.

  4. Strange Cooling Sensations

I'm reminded of Glenn Morris's writing, how most people when they start circulating energy run hot. Some are able to switch running cold, and that tends to be more advanced, and more feminine, I believe in his writing. Doing a meditation type Spotless suggested made me feel I was running cooler.

  14. New member Mithras wrote 'How does one even start the Dao?' my 2 bits It starts with your head, ends with your Way in life. You start by reading the DDJ and various classics. Soak up some philosophy.. then look at your life, your actions, the big and little stuff and see how it can flow better. <course the above is a very Western philosophical answer vs a Daoist religious one>
  15. I often confuse Zen and Daoism. Not that I know much about either. But Zen (& I guess Daoism) has the ideal of living in flow. In tune with Nature and the patterns of our community. Valuing things correctly, holding on loosely. Appreciating the Now without worry, while having the wisdom to chart future strategies without anxiety. Being rooted in simple honestly. Mostly unflappable, but okay with being emotional because it comes and goes. Flowing like a river, with obstacles overcome naturally.
