Perhaps Hinduism is not the only one still alive, if we include modern versions. I recall that 2-3 years ago I found something on-line that mentioned some people researching similarities between early Hinduism and what is known of Druidry. Sorry I cannot provide any links.

I have today finished "The Alchemist" by Paul Coelho, a very enjoyable read. I now have "The Spiral Dance" by Starhawk and "Poachers Pilgrimage: An Island Journey" by Alistair McIntosh awaiting me.

I think this could be a very interesting post Lois. Over the years I have met all sorts of interesting people, Various types of anarchists, socialists, greens, Buddhists, and Pagans. They all seem to have some early link with hippy ideas. Hippydom was very inspirational if nothing else.

I am intrigued by its close similarity to "Matty Groves", one of my favorite songs. Been listening to this for a long time now. Nectar for the ears.

One of my new year projects is to gain an understanding of the I Ching. The Richard Wilhelm translation was recommended so I bought that and Carol K Anthony's 'A Guide to the I Ching' as well. I am a complete novice but I feel quite excited at the prospect. Several people that I had great respect for, valued the subject highly.

One of the reasons I am attracted to modern Druidry is the importance that it places on 'story'. This extremely enjoyable film made me think of that.

Yes, around the same time that I was learning good manners. Not really what I was referring to. I think that the writers had something akin to a flash of insight in mind.

I have started to read ' The Elements of Shamanism' by Neville Drury. He quotes one source as saying "the Shamanistic calling may come during some great misfortune, dangerous illness, sudden loss of family" etc. A little later I returned to a book previously started, Sangharakshita's 'The Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path'. Referring to the "Path of Vision" (usually known as right understanding). The author states that "it arises for some as a result of personal tragedy, bereavement or loss." I was struck by the obvious similarity of the statements and I wonder how widely if at all, it is recognized. Are there similar references in other traditions?
