Cultivation in chinese comics

Recommended Posts

I have read a lot of cultivation comics for fun but I noticed some things are constant in all of them so I would like to know if there is any truth to them

1. cultivation is against heaven's will which means the practice of cultivation of becoming an immortal is against the natural order

2. From the time we start cultivation there are different levels of it which at the ends reaches to immortality.

3. With increase in each level our chi control and quantity increase and we can perform more powerful unnatural or magic like tricks like controlling elements and other things.

4. Our body also becomes more sturdy like a body of steel then titanium etc

I also enjoy this trend, and they also make number 1 so scary that the cultivator incures lightning tribulation or some other force of nature upon them.

i will say that I learn a lot from cultivation comics because I began to feel chi when I began to sit for longer periods like the characters did, some characters could sit and cultivate for years in a cave and I believe this is possible of cultivating in a place full of chi but cultivating in your room is not the same since the level of chi on the air had reduced compared to the olden days when pollution was non existent.

they have people they call breatherians who live on air alone and don’t eat for long periods or at all, So it makes sense that the are feeding on chi, the main building block of all things including food.

what cultivation comics do you resonate with the most. Coincidentally I signed up for this blog when I read cultivation chat group and since then my cultivation improved since picking up ideas fro these comics.

heres a few I’ll recommend.

Cultivation Chat group

Master of Gu

tales of demons and gods

World of cultivation

return of the immortal

what comic are are you reading @Xiao San

Haha I've been too past few months in my spare time. Im not a comics/manga..or books person but the stories are good.

Peerless Dad is pretty awesome. I thought it's based on MoPie at first. But it's not. Altough it gives the same feel, very few actually become strong and the training is not only complicated/rare but also brutally hard and the powers the strongest were presented were similar to MoPie. The drawing style fits the tone as well. The story is just getting started still

^^^ Apotheosis - Elevation to the status of a god is cool too, nice story :P

Let's not forget One Piece, Haki is basically Dao/Heaven and it's siddhis.

------------------

Are these ideas based on reality? Like heavenly tribulations when advancing to a new stage? I imagine things phenomens like Kundalini could be imagined as the sky thundering and raining thunder on your body which may wreck you.

Or having a very powerful/sturdy body?

I like that the last step only is immortal. Theres supposedly different types of immortality but let's stop beating the bush because training the spirit is harder than building chi. There is only one immortal, and no lesser achievements are allowed. ... the cultivation is for yourself ...

I find this analogy quite interesting, I never thought of it that way. Apotheosis is another one of my favorites I didn’t mention and I just read the new chapter today. In one piece the devil fruit could also be compared to cultivation pills now that I think about it. I read peerless dad and stopped halfway because it wasn’t too centered on cultivation compared to the others, I guess I wouldn’t know since I dropped it.

I like in Dragon Ball where they have these hi-tech glasses that tell you the "Ki" power of various opponents.

Imagine if we had this in Qigong.

"Hey dude, I was scanning John Chang's level with my new Qi Polaroids, and my glasses blew up and melted on me. Not sure if this covered by insurance, but his level was at least 50,000"

Theres other energies than post-natal/etheric/ Chi / form Shakti, that are essential energy in the survival of the cells. So you would probably get more info than just qi.

Well no one really answered to the 3rd point

Do we really reach different levels of cultivation and if yes then how is it in the real world

Also there are bottleneck mentioned at peaks of each level which they pass with use of cultivation pills but we don't have anything of these sort.

Yes, this is recorded in basically all the cultivation traditions. There's nothing new to that. I'm not quite sure what you are asking?

I also believe this is possible but not exactly as it is in the comics, I believe certain factors like life style changes affect cultivation.

if we were away from city’s and closer to mountains and forests, we could harness more chi and make progress.

Diet is another one and herbal medicine, since there not lots of chi in the air, we have to absorb the chi of plants and medicine.

Time is another, most of us are surrounded with distractions, jobs send responsibilities. It’s tasking to cultivate and do all these things at the same time.

If if we could go away from the modern world into a place that’s chi-full, we could make more progress than where we are at now.

What I am asking is are the cultivators in real world classified into different levels and if they are do you know any?

Like are there different names for different levels like there in the manga?

I believe they are classified into ranks in the real world but I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have fixed or universal labels. So it might be called something else in another sect.

I believe you should be able to sincerely determine your level of cultivation from where you’re at, i recently just started to feel and circulate chi to all parts of my body so I guess I’m in the foundation stage or beginner level in simple terms.

It would be cool to have some sort of machinery that could quantify in numbers and have same scale for everyone to be compared. Same as you stand on weights and learn about body mass, muscles, water, and fat content.

But you would learn Qi levels by each chakra.

There are levels ofc. But as most people are stuck at level zero or less than zero there is no real difference.

Internal circle in cultivation is small, and it takes many years to progress from one level to another, if all goes smoothly, in most cases it does not go smoothly.

I would also add that depending on what you work with LDT / MDT or UDT you will be gaining different abilities and there are different pathways. You wont be able to compare people from different traditions as they train themselves in different paths of selfdevelopment. Buddhist tradition does not even work with Energy.

JC had very strong LDT but its hard to compare it with masters from other traditions that develop different energies.
