Christian vs. Hindu deities

To me Yaweh and Brahma are quite different in several ways. Brahma I believe is not really a personality but more of an impersonal force which to me sounds more like the Tao than Yaweh. Also being that Brahma isn't really a personality it would not get jealous or angry, but Yaweh does which would put him more on par with the lower tier gods of Hinduism like Indra and such, or Zeus or Thor of other pantheons.

Yes, I personally equate Brahman with the Tao because everything emanates and manifests from it. Adding to the confusion (for lack of a better word) is interchanging Brahmā (with a long a... Bruhmaa), the creator god, part of the Hindu Trimurti and who is not immortal, and Brahman, the only reality, ground of being and existence. Yahweh is not equivalent to either of these. Yahweh is somewhere in between them.

It is confusing. One is the Vedic primary and sufficient principle of Existence, Consciousness, Bliss - Brahman.

The other is the Puranic Deity who is the creator, Brahma, who rises from Lord Vishnu's navel and lives and dies but at a completely different time scale (than human beings).

the one and lonely God's mission is to destroy all ancient beliefs and systems to take over the world.  He (Male dominte architype) has an agenda and is fond of genocide.

Mel brooks.....Christians are so poor (how poor are they) They are so poor they only have one god. The hidden part of the joke is that the word christian means poor fellow like someone you feel bad for.

Hindu and christian believe there are two worlds one higher and one lower the funny part of this is that the word "world" means one. Hindu gods seem to like people and want them to succeed.

Why in the world would Gods partner be the devil and not be married to a goddess. The archetype of western religion makes the world a very bad place. The archetype of eastern re;ligons shows people how amazing and beautiful this world is.

In short IMO christians would like to see the world burn and be destroyed like the end of the story where hindus would rather like to see the world grow and for people to become divine.

Yes, the Hindu gods are a pretty chill and laid back lot. Even in stories of the most egregious offenses and blasphemies against the gods, they have very long fuses. And when the gods are roused to anger and do kick ass, they are quick to forgive and redeem the offender. Ravana, in the Ramayana, even after having kidnapped Rama's wife Sita (incarnations of Vishnu and Lakshmi, respectively), waged war, and committed the most atrocious acts, was redeemed by Vishnu.

The same thing played out between Hiranyakashipu, an evil king, and Vishnu. Even after numerous attempts by the king to kill his own son, an ardent devotee of Vishnu, and Vishnu finally taking man-lion form to dispatch the king, he was redeemed by Vishnu and given his grace. All because the gods know the divinity in all beings and in all existence.

We should be careful to not hurt the feelings of any group of believers my friends. Hurting others' feelings is never a good thing.

Allowing to be hurt by others perspectives is also never a good thing.

The PC approach would be your a christian that's awesome, your jewish thats awesome, your hindu thats awesome. I like how religions change people diets that's awesome. Its all awesome and make no difference to me.

Does defense always entail offense? :)

Love it we can't have one without the other.

Why not avoid holding positions? Then no threat can be perceived, no defense or offense are necessary?

The reality of  VS threads is having a position. The preconceived conflict really does not exist. The reality is that these positions are just a mental construct developed from the belfes, society and culture one is born into. So lets have fun with it, no offence.

So if we are just having fun, some accurate information regarding God in christianity... It is all about love...

John 1 - 4:7-9

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

That's what I am talking about. the divinity within all of us, the great mystery and the great story. We all need to embrace the highest qualities of humanity and restore the rightful paradise,,,,, because of love.

the teachings about eternal hell for souls that is found in and throughout New Testament doctrine can never be correlated or equated with the teachings of Hinduism, thus any wishfully projected thinking along such lines is futile and false.

Jesus would be a great cop you could insult him slap him in the face and he would just turn the other cheek and take it.

So I rolled thru a stop sign the other day there was absolutely no one on the road. A cop pulls me over and starts hitting me with his club and I am like what are you doing and he said do you want me to stop or just slow down.

I am with bob on this one we have these two religions one says this and one says that.  jesus bruce lee christ  says when you put both religions in a glass they become the glass. That is why I always use a cup.

The hindu deities are way more colorful than christian deities and how did jesus become white? I can see someone reading the bible and they get their white wash out and say.... now this is way better.

I like that painting of jesus having dinner with a bunch of white people. The only one that makes sense is the white woman.

People get all concerned that she was a prostitute like a black man would have to pay.

Back in the good old days temples had prostitutes except in greece they had young boys.

Tao bums should have an I am offended button

either many parts of the Bible are seriously manipulated and twisted by worldly powers or Jesus is,  I know Jesus isn't so that is where I stand, having said that I still do not accept an "Abrahamic" type summation that others may.

Haha... I need a confused button as I don't understand what you and 3bob are even saying.

Also, Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute.  Even the Catholic Church admitted to making that up about 50 years ago. :)

In another 50 years Mary will be a porn star and everyone at the dinner table will look worn out like it is their last supper.

He was co-opted by the western church. In many Eastern Orthodox icons he has a decidedly Middle Eastern appearance. But somehow I think you knew that. :P

As for the colorfulness of the Hindu deities, my goodness that's an understatement. :D

Let's see...

  • When Krishna is born, Parvati, as Durga takes birth as his baby sister to fool the king who tried to kill Krishna.
  • Durga is the "wife" of Shiva.
  • Krishna is Vishnu.
  • Shiva and Vishnu are brothers-in-law by the fact that Durga is Vishnu's sister.
  • Vishnu takes on a female avatar, Mohini, to delude some demons.
  • Shiva is gobsmacked by Mohini's beauty because, well, she made herself irresistible to males.
  • Shiva pops a raging boner, runs off after Mohini and leaves Parvati standing there mortified and infuriated.
  • The union of Shiva and his sister-in-law (brother-in-law?) produces the god Ayyappa, who btw is not depicted in Shiva family iconography with his brothers Kartikeya and Ganesha.

Tell me that's not colorful! Not to mention gender-bending. :D

I love all the gender bending like when Thor dressed as the king's daughter promised to be married to the giants that also have his hammer. He did not speak like a proper woman his voice would have revealed his disguise. When he has the opportunity to grab his hammer he becomes a man again and kills the giants.

Their are a lot of strong female roles in ancient times thank god that's over.

Again guys...please maintain decorum on this thread. We should not be devolving to this type of discourse. Specifically referring to someone's deity as a prostitute or a porn star. Nothing productive comes out of this. This sub-forum is to discuss Hindu traditions. Hindu traditions do not resort to name calling and maligning deities of any other tradition.
