  1. World Medicine of Tao

All medicine can be good. What works for one doesnt work for another. Having them available is a benefit of society because we can try different things till we find what works
  2. I remember having massive anxiety at one stage that was uncontrollable after my surgeon said I might have to have my foot amputated. I remember not sleeping at all for like 5 days and it was unbearable. I agree with what others have said on facing the fear, when the sensations come just ask it "comon then, what are you going to do c**t" to the overwhelming sensations. Let it do it's best. Look I wouldn't say it's fun and I'd rather take another way but it worked, repeating it and gaining confidence the sensations subsided. Once u do it once u know you can do it and have that skill in your back pocket. Then put your attention on the physical. If u want watch the physical sensations of the breath around your nose and let the air going through your nostrils feel like your hand gently stroking a cat's back to sleep, calming your mind. Sensations will come as you start to relax, but just tell yourself the sensations are not the meditation, bring your attention back to the nose. 15minutes at a time is enough 2 or 3x a day. Dont pay any attention to the sensations or they will get stronger. Best of luck.
  3. Yes alexander technique is good (i have only read the book). a GOOD bowen therapist can fix this for you without you knowing how to do it. It will take ages to be able to do it and alot of effort. I meditated for around 16 years and i still can't do it as well as somebody else doing it for me through Bowen treatment. I wouldn't bother trying to do it yourself, no point trying to cut your lawn using a pair of scissors, just pull out the lawn mower. You can stretch adductor and piriformis but do psoas as #1 most important, if you get time do the others. Psoas will be the root of the problem (coccyx too but access that through psoas). It will take some time to filter down to the other muscles but psoas is most often the deeper problem. Don't just do the sore side do both sides for the same amount of time. Other things is look up 'stalk test' to test strength of glute med, sometimes your pelvis will be tilting because psoas is tight because it is compensating for a weak glute med. You can get someone to test hamstring and glute max strength and strengthen accordingly but we are just making a bigger and bigger problem. #1 stretch psoas lots #2 try get 8,000 - 10,000 steps a day concentrate on this for 4 weeks and that will fix most of the problems most of the time if improving continue. If not working start to look at other stuff. If gets sore during 1st month stop, rest until it feels good again, then start #1 & #2 again Other stuff will speed up the healing but you need to have the skill to diagnose the problem. If you don't know what your doing and just do exercises willy nilly it's like going into a pharmacy and eating any pill of the shelf and hoping it's going to work. If you are interested in reading more look up 'dural drag' that is interesting but very hard to do on yourself, even when you know what you are doing. It's taken me 5 years of 30-50 treatments a week to hone the sensitivity of my fingers to track where the problem is coming from. I thought i knew what i was doing the first year but i didn't have a clue haha. Try step #1 and #2 above, simple but effective. If not find a good therapist.
  4. If you have a torn bicep and you start doing 15kg dumbell bicep curls it is going to damage your torn bicep further. If you do the movement without weight it will pump blood through the muscle and speed healing If you add more weight it will hurt more, and heal faster - to a point, where the damage you do will slow healing, or eventually start you going backwards in recovery. I believe the same with meditation. The energy can apply stress to a weak mind and cause it to get stronger or break it. If one does 5 mins a day there is probably little risk, if they do a 10 day vipassana retreat it is intense. I think gradual increase of stress would be benefitial. However someone who exercises every day then stops is going to get some kind of discomfort. If one meditates every day and stops they will also experience discomfort. I think when it all comes down to it just spend your time doing what you enjoy doing for as long as you enjoy doing it and your body will magically begin to adapt to be able to support this better. The faster the change, and the older the body, the more difficulty in adapting. Also, to add to the type of meditation.... So say i have a very anxious mind. I do a calming meditation and get relief..... until i feel anxious again and then i need to meditate again. Short term relief, long term aggrivation because i lose my ability to cope. Say i have an very anxious mind and i do energising meditation. I feel more anxious, i am forced to deal with the situation and in doing that become better and dealing with the anxiety. Short term aggrivation, longer term relief. There are pros and cons with either approach, try both, try none, trying is the only way to find the best way
  5. Six Healing Sounds practice

I would agree, however what are types of practices that you think put the horse before the cart? I see healing sounds as mantak teaches it as making the sounds to shake/vibrate and relax the organ, then wait and let the fruit of your effort have it's effect. Bit like rowing a boat, row, then glide.
  6. Good on you for giving it an amazing effort. Did you enjoy any of the time you spent doing it or not? If so it's been good for you, if not well you have probably wasted your time. Here are some thoughts that you may find helpful. What you are looking for is medicine, energetic or whatever. Any medicine works for a time then stops working and it needs to be altered, if you do anything a long time it will just become another habit and add another issue. What is medicine for one person is not necessarily medicine for another. I can treat 10 people with the same injury but all have different treatment methods because they all have different causes. So try something else. Lets face it even with clinical trials for pharmaciticals there is never 100% success, i think if they hit 60% they are doing pretty well. Even physio. I think you have tried doing it from the book, and with every variation and for quiet a great number of hours. You should be pretty experienced meditator by now, so throw the book and the tape away, you know it off by heart listening/reading it again is only going to bring you back to doing the method in a way that is proven not to work. Ask yourself inside how you can do it in a way that will be more benefitial to you. Something that i think you might find helpful is check in with yourself throught the day. When do you feel worst and when do you feel better? Keep a log and try to work out the things that help and what make you worse. Then it becomes easy and spend more time doing the things that help, thats getting the fruit of meditaiton without meditating, plus you are living not sitting with your eyes closed or whatever. In all honesty if you spend at least 80% of your time purposely doing these things that make you feel better, then leave the other 20% to chance. You eat good food, get good sleep and exercise i think your problems may dissapear. Then if you really want to meditate, when you meditate bring the thoughts and feelings from those good activities into your meditation. Were you gentle? did you do something slow, what is it about these good activities that make you feel better? Bring them into your mediations. To me this is a red flag that this is not the method for you. If BKF said himself that mentally ill people are not worth your time, then what that says to me is he is wasting his time with them because he can't help them. Find something else specifically marketed to mentally ill. What is on paper is mostly all sales. What you experience is the truth. So what is on paper is just to entice you to try it, then give it a try. If it doesn't work try something else. I have clients who have tried like 5-6 doctors, specialists, accupuncture, massage, chiro, osteo, etc and then they find help with what i do. I don't claim to be so great, it's just that different things work well for different people. Often clients get fustrated that each professional they seek help from says the problem is due to something else. They are just saying that based on their training and it is true for them. But instead of being fustrated they should be happy that there is a new point of view on the problem, a new opportunity for improvement. There are alot of paradoxes in all of this too though. I spent extensive time doing healing tao like you mayve 3-8hrs a day for 3 years plus most days for another 7 and felt like i was getting so much out of it but did bugger all for original problem i began practicing for. Then did anapana portion of vipassana intensely for a few weeks/days here and there and got massive benefit for my problem, but found it difficult to practice. Healing tao is like sitting down to get high, anapana / vipassana is like sitting down to watch the breath which in comparison is boring as hell. And sorry to just put another spin on it, sometimes there are problems we can just get used to living with. Getting older is no fun and shit happens. I remember seeing Richard Bandler talking about going into mental homes and enableing people to leave simply by having fun with their hallusinations and not taking things so seriously. There are heaps of people living with f**ked up minds, and severely disabled bodies that are doing just fine. Sometimes you can fix something, sometimes the answer is to change your perception and see your problem in a less serious light, or look at the benefits of having your particular problem which can carry you over until the solution for your problem comes into your life. Maybe the solution has come into your life already but you didn't give it a go because you were so sure that this water method should work. It may have blocked you. Be open to trying lots of different things, sometimes things you don't think will work do work.
  7. I just read more deeply into your first post. What he says it right at the start. Later in his post i disagree. I don't think you should plank and make your butt cheeks tight. I think the goal of planking is to relax all the outside muscles and just use the deep inside muscles. Otherwise you train yourself to use the outside muscles and that is the cause of many problems. Relax your butt cheeks, relax your stomach and abs, relax all the muscles on the outside and let your body 'fall' into the correct alignment. Anyone who has spent a bit of time doing 'embracing the tree' while in horsestance will know the feeling of relaxing into good posture.
  8. I would say 95% of people have some sort of alignment issue whether if they have any symptoms or not. The body is constantly in a state of flow and so the pelvis changes it alignment when there is an injury or even just exhaustion so that your body can keep doing the things you ask it to do without you experiencing any symptoms. Each time it gets tired or injured it compensates and becomes more twisted without you knowing. It's only once your body has twisted it's self several times that the healing ability of the body becomes reduced and it can't compensated any more then your body lets you know about the problem via pain. This is when i start to untwist everything and get everything straight and allow the body to heal much faster. The problem is compounded the more active they are or if they are overweight. I believe it usually starts off due to nervous system or repetitive tasks (ie sitting), then after time muscles become longer/shorter holding the misalignment more strongly, then the bone structure adapts and it becomes even more deeply engrained. Frequently i find that pelvis alignment issues can be corrected through correction of the tissues of the neck and jaw. Other people i correct through the pelvis, it depends on where the nerve which is telling the muscle to contract is being unintentionally activated from. This is how i treat, through the nervous system. A physio would (i expect) treat the pelvis by doing stretches with the pelvis, so each modality has their own way of correcting some type of dysfunction. There are many ways to skin a cat so they say. However to answer your question, unless you have alot of training and experience the easiest way is to just focus on the problem part and stretch it more and more frequently (just slowly at the beginning so you dont hurt yourself), even so much as to stretch the problem muscle 1x ever hour. Then it doesn't matter about the caught nerve (the nerve that i work to turn off) or whatever because you are correcting the problematic tissue that is giving you your symptoms. I think the number 1 important muscle to stretch is psoas muscle - both sides (this is the best method if you don't know what you are doing). Strengthening can be important but if you strengthen the other side you will be tight both sides and that will cause other problems. Just stretch the tight muscle. Once alignment corrected and pain is gone if you wish to further improve resistance to reinjury strengthen both sides but continue to stretch both sides.
  9. I rekon if i stretch all over but especially the spine in each direction, it makes it easier and deeper, the calm which you are mentioning at the end
  10. Raising the Cauldron?

    You can do that.
  11. It is a very common problem, i see it in clinic every day. I treat alot of professional drivers and it is rife amongst these. You can improve anterior pelvic tilt doing exactley as you say. It takes time (1-3 months) depending on how long it's been a problem for. Do the exercises every 2 days first, if no aggrivation or pain do every day for another week, then do 2-3x a day if you can handle it. Don't always try to get perfect tilt it's not always necassary and perhaps your bone structure has adapted to your anterior pelvic tilt and so the lordosis or excessive curve in the lower spine, the vertebra may have adjusted to that. If you change it back to perfect alignment quickly it could cause more problems.. Often only need partial improvement to get rid of symptoms.
  12. Smoking weed, drinking alcohol, working to excess, medicines, bodywork, strength training, qigong, etc, everything all has an effect. Balancing the effect out with something else becomes important. Doing anything to excess can cause problems. But some people are born with an excess in their genetic makeup and so some of these things can help. I think all in all none of it really matters so long as you are enjoying it. When you stop enjoying it change. If your not enjoying something and can't stop doing it, well then you have a problem.
  13. It is very paradoxial. Live mindfully, have everything but feel nothing. Or feel deeply but lose things in the process. I live mindfully when i have to, the rest of the time i live sensually, because thats what I enjoy. I think as i age the body becomes weaker and i am getting forced to live more mindfully.... forced to live more mindfully for periods so that i can enjoy sensual living for a time thereafter haha. Living mindfully for the sake of living mindfully becomes incredibly boring. However living sensually too much is very destructive.
  14. I am also very sensitive to this, especially with my business so is perhaps why it grew so fast. However i created a habit where i felt compelled to act on those opportunities and although very lucrative, it made me mildly anxious and not helpful for relaxation.
  15. Yes it can feel a bit strange sometimes but i found just starting with very small things helpful like having shelter or nice weather etc. I know what you mean though. Yesterday i was in the city and those i was with were saying this and that about the city were good but it was meaningless to me, ive always preferred natural spaces. However reflecting on it i was perhaps restisting their sharing of gratitude? Im not sure, this is all new to me
