old3bob Posted Friday at 11:41 PM Oh happy whale , Have been real close to a gray whale in the water on my surfboard in southern Cal; btw. being near their big back flipper is not where one wants to be! Surfers like it when dolphins are around since they tend to keep sharks away.
Nungali Posted yesterday at 07:07 AM So how do I attract dolphins out here ? I didnt bring one of those old 'dolphin calling cranking devices ' that Sandie used to call Flipper in .

On a different subject I loved watching "Sea Hunt" with Lloyd Bridges when I was a kid. Great scuba diving episodes! Also like the work of his sons Jeff and Beau. I would rush home from whatever I was doing to watch that I was determined to be become a scuba diver 'when I grew up ' . I even went to apply for an apprenticeship in 'wharf carpentry ' with the government as a lad . They asked me why , I said I wanted to get into the underwater division ( and I imagined some pleasant time topside as well doing some 'large carpentry' ... but my past wharf experience was ; . The guy gave me a sympathetic look and asked '' Do you want to do a 3 year apprenticeship under the docks at Garden Island ? It won't be pleasant ! '' - I changed my mind . Garden Island .... sounds nice, eh ?

Nungali Posted 31 minutes ago ^ One of the most amazing heroic journeys in history . here ius another classic ; the 'Tomb Thumb ' . Two guys and a young lad set out from Sydney Cove , not long after settlement to explore the coast line south of Sydney . They were the first 'others' to arrive at Port Hacking - my birth place and 'home ground' and met the Dharawal people . Previously that had not gone good , they had met the Europeans landing at Kurnell (also in their 'country' - area ) which resulted in one of them being shot in the leg . However they seemed fascinated with the men's shaved faces and hair so one of the men offered to give one a shave and haircut . The Dharawal men were impressed so they all got a shave and haircut . That seemed to have created better relationships . That tiny boat , had an adventurous journey ; around Tasmania in that little thing ! I did that crossing on the Bass Straight ferry , a huge boat with many cars and passengers on board , I got thrown out of bed three times during the nigh , and my cabin was in the middle of the ship ! I went out side to watch in the pre-dawn light ... scary ! A black turbulent sea and faintly in the distance the wild mountain silhouette of the land shrouded in black clouds spitting lightening . Imagine that in 'Tomb Thumb' ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EaEa1_qVKU
Nungali Posted 16 minutes ago Here is another great journey that not many know about , (and you thought the Kon-Tiki was impressive ! ) Here you are having a nice day at the beach at Mooloolabar in Queensland and people start standing and pointing staring out to sea : ''What on earth is that ! ? '' ''Ahoy there Landlubbers , is this Polynesia ? ' 'Nah mate , its Orstraylia . Where the hell did you guys come from ? '' '' Ecuador !
