A glow linked to life

Living organisms produce an extremely faint light, detectable only with ultrasensitive instruments. This UPE is believed to result from biochemical reactions involving oxygen-reactive species.

In mice, researchers measured photon emission as long as the animals were alive, with detectable peaks in the paws and head. After death, this luminosity dropped by more than 90% within minutes, leaving only a weak residual signal around the previously active areas.

For plants, precise tests revealed that physical injuries (such as cuts) or chemical damage (exposure to oxidizing agents) caused an immediate increase in light emission. Leaves of Arabidopsis thaliana showed intensities up to 3 times higher in damaged areas, with the signal persisting for nearly 16 hours after injury.

These observations suggest a direct link between UPE [ultraweak photon emission] and cellular metabolism. Researchers used CCD and EMCCD cameras to capture these photons. The results indicate that UPE could serve as an indicator of vitality or physiological stress.

Oh, look science.

Received only 1 like.

Everyone wants to return to living in the stone age, dont they.

It seems different in that in kirlian  photography they generated the energy and pushed it through the sample to get the image . This seems to be a record of the energy emanating  from the sample itself  .... photons given off by bio-chemical reactions .

This is not unusual in itself , it is called  'biphoton or Ulta weak photon  emission' . Often in the ultraviolet but also in the visible light range . It's linked to metabolic and cellular activity regarding  oxidative metabolic processes  or  oxidative stress processes -  hence more detected when a part of a leaf is cut off or traumatized .  Its an energy that helps cells communicate with each other .

Think of really  (  really really ) weak bio luminescence .

real technology used to make a fake conclusion  ;)

Worse were the 'aura pictures' that were going around .

One came to our little town, he even  put  posters up saying he was coming , rented the local hall ... an embarrassing scam . he used a cheap  old  instant photograph camera , one where you pull the film out count to whatever and peel the cover off the photo and there it is .  This guy took the photo out the camera , peeled a corner off the cover , quickly  pulled it back a bit and  then sealed it again ... waited then un peeled it ... VOILA !   Your aura .

Right in full view of people ... yet they were amazed and kept their aura photo (after paying him )   as a trophy .

The typical person emits five to 12 biophotons per second. Some 10 percent of the 150 people who have been tested there—mostly meditators and energy healers—produced considerably more during moments of intense focus: 80, 200, and sometimes up to 1200 biophotons per second.

In contrast, Edd Edwards, who has been studied at Rhine since 2009, has produced 2,000, 300,000, and sometimes over 1 million photons per second. John's real-time verbal feedback has caused Edd to lower his energetic output and instead sustain high levels of energy for eight to 12 seconds at a time. This has reportedly improved his healing abilities.

This was about five years ago. I look forward to seeing a similar exercise with the full-on “UPE imaging.”

In the meantime here’s something that anyone can try, no laboratory needed:

Voluntarily Generated Piloerection (VGP)—the ability to consciously trigger goosebumps—is still considered a medical and physiological mystery. Here's why it continues to puzzle researchers:

🧠 Why It “Shouldn’t Be Possible”
- Goosebumps are triggered by the arrector pili muscles, which are smooth muscles controlled by the autonomic nervous system—the part of your body that handles involuntary functions like heartbeat and digestion

- Since these muscles lack direct motor control pathways, conscious activation defies current neurophysiological models

🔍 What We Know So Far
- A 2018 study led by James Heathers examined 32 individuals with VGP and found remarkable consistency in how they described the sensation: it often starts at the back of the head or neck and spreads down the spine and arms

- Most participants said it was as easy as moving an arm, requiring no emotional trigger—just a simple mental or muscular focus

- Interestingly, many of these individuals scored high on openness to experience, suggesting a possible psychological link

🧬 Still Unexplained
- Despite anecdotal reports and small studies, no definitive mechanism has been identified to explain how VGP works
