Newbie to group

Hello.. I'm new to the group.

I also too the liberty to glance through a few of the conversations. I was under the impression that this was a group for dao practitioners, but I noticed in a lot of the comments there are a lot of minds who aren't open to going with the flow of Dao, but rather whose minds are chained to religion, dogma or tantra...

Are there any true Daoists in this group?

Well, needless to say I’ll be keeping an eye on you for a wee bit - to see if you are actually as confrontational as this initial post indicates you may be.

In any case, welcome Xxandra.

Welcome!
Yes, yours truly as a Semi-Taoist.

How much do you understand Chinese Taoism as a religion?

A true Taoist is an ascetic, not married. One lives in the Taoist shrine 24/7 to follow and practice the principles and canons of Tao.

A Semi-Taoist is not an ascetic and may be married to have a family. One goes to the shrine eight hours a day to perform the daily chore and then returns home in the evening.

Another kind of Semi-Taoist only follows the principles of Tao but is nonreligious.

Thanks for the info, interesting. :)  What are the Chinese characters for ‘true Taoist’ and ‘Semi-Taoist’?

True Taoist is 道人,道士,真人(high priest)

Semi-Taoist is 道徒

Thanks. 道徒 makes perfect sense. :)

@Mango I Googled ‘Semi-Taoist’ and got no results. It does not seem to be a term much used in English?

No, it is not. Sometimes, we cannot depend on English to explain everything.

You have to try to look at the term by 顧名思義 if you know what I mean!

Better to also give the characters then.

I don’t!

 It’s classical, so “means” whatever ‘the powers that be’ decide it means. :P

I will ask my friend what the ‘state of the art’ is:

Hmm …

The English ‘Semi-Taoist’ clearly does not mean 道徒 .

I presume this applies then:

“Sometimes it has a slightly derogatory meaning, referring to the name alone, without seeking further explanation.”

I think the onus was on you to have also provided the characters.

Since I had explained what it is, you should know what it is by now without pursuing it any further.
