The real modern Shaolin

Recommended Posts

Another excellent documentary by the Extreme Pilgrim, the Anglican vicar: Pete Owen-Jones.

Link.

The Xinyiba section starts at around 30:25.

Enjoy! :)

Shi Deshen (If I remember ringt) says that the important parts of xinyiba are never publicly shown. So the clip might look good, but knowing it is most likely a severly watered down version it is hard to get excited.

Too bad.

But perhaps you were sarcastic, saying that the modern Shaolin is more about money and less about chan-wu-yi.

Shaolin has a certain Harvard like cachet - and for good reason.

Both are intense and both produce a certain product that has a rigorous base.

Having the "H" letter in your resume is incredibly powerful.

Having the "S" letter is equally powerful within those zones of understanding.

Part of the product is a certain hardy base - I have met many from Harvard (being married to one) and many from Shaolin as my teacher was a former head teacher and Monk at Shaolin. They are in a sense a horse of a different color.

As in any large school it is easy to miss the trees in the forest - even the most profound among them.

Really cool documentary!

I like the part where he discovers that the breath leads the movement. He made real progress in a very short amount of time.
