What is the difference?

Recommended Posts

Japa kusuma-sankarsham kashyapeyam maha-dyutim

tamo-rim sarva-papa-ghnam pranato ' smi divakaram

When translated in English, it means:

"Let us chant the glories of the Sun God, whose beauty rivals that of a flower. I bow down to him, the greatly effulgent son of Kashyapa, who is the enemy of darkness and destroyer of all sins."

Compared to

Our Father, Who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy Kingdom come.

Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. Amen.

For those in the west... are we chasing our tails?

Buddhism teaches compassion...

Christianity says... love they neighbor

Just as blood nourishes the heart which keeps it flowing, so love nourishes spiritual freedom and is, in turn, kept flowing by it. The connection is so strong that Buddhism, often known as a Path of Freedom, could equally be called a religion of love. Perhaps this is what he had in mind when the Dalai Lama said his religion is kindness. For the Buddha, love is one of the paths to full spiritual liberation.

What is the difference?

Is it not like looking for something you think you have lost... until you realize it was in your hand the entire time?

Not sure Xtianity teaches compassion in some of its more local manifestations.

We've been picketed by born agains trying to close our 'Godless-Heathens' centre down in the past.

It can be a bit of a paradox at times... hahaha ;)

+ the love thy enemy...

I think both systems have elements of sadomasochism

I would say defend yourself...

I really don't understand the logic behind most of these modern faiths.

Here is another similarity

Buddhism collect alms so does X

Both are paying for ones sins/merit

Both feed off the general population to survive (using fear as motivation)

A version of Taoism appears to be the same...

The old way... seemed much more self reliant / rebellious

I suppose love conquers all could be seen in another light too...

As in ones love for something may give one the will/ energy to overcome obstacle

As in say soldier being motivated to live so as to return to his family / loved ones

or to protect them...

so all depending it could be viewed universally or... other

Love conquers all...isn't really going to help that fish just plucked out of the water by an eagle.

No matter how hard the fish tries to love the eagle...it is still going to be lunch.

So really the fish is being foolish

hating your enemies would be equally so

Well, the first one is just some random line that glorifies some sun god person and the prayer has more Taoist motives.

To be sure, Christianity teaches compassion quite a bit...but the people who use the religion as a crutch, who aren't intelligent enough to read the Bible, they ruin the name. I don't consider them to be Christians.

Indeed it is. I've been chasing my tail for years and years until I finally came back to the spirituality and religion of my childhood. Also of my family, ancestors and the local area. It's been here all along. Inside my heart, and permeating everything around me.

Christianity has had a bad press for a long time now, and not without reason.

Beneath the politics, dogma and ritual of the various factions lies a teaching which is as valid as any other.

You just need to open your heart.
