Me and my big mouth (and keyboard :) ).

I agree with consent generally by the way - I was just pointing out as a general moral guide (like all general moral guides) it may have problems.  Say for instance you were in a relationship with someone who liked to self harm.  You might decide that for their own good you should work to prevent this - even though the person had not given their consent for you to do so.  This might involve restraining them against their will.   This might be a loving thing to do but outside consent as a principle.  But to them some kind of self harm might be a sexual expression which they feel they need.  This is one example of which there may be many.

My wider point is that morality is a kind of maze or minefield where simple rules only work as a rule of thumb but may break down in extremis.

I don't think your broader conception of consent here is what is generally (or ever?) meant in conversations around sexual consent though.

I'm pretty stupid but this doesn't seem very complicated to me. I can't imagine how:

    • Relying on conscious, coercion-free agreement before sexual activity would ever be problematic in itself
    • Engaging in sexual activity against someone's will would ever be anything other than a moral transgression

@sean - would you be willing to to move the Totoro / Studio Ghibli posts to a new thread? How about this for a name:

    The Soft Power of Totoro

Then, others can continue to post super hero and super villain powers herein.

    Just a thought. Thanks.

    Sure thing. Split to here:

I remember a recent thread where I warned of the dangers of celibacy combined with flawed internal practice...

Lots of people chimed in, saying it’s not so bad, not that dangerous.

What Drew is demonstrating is classic signs of at least two deviations. Caused by flawed practice and celibacy. The results are the ‘tainting of the innocence of the heart’ combined with delusions of the mind.

I would submit it's also a failure of hegemonic patriarchy to educate and hold men accountable for what sexual consent means. (Maybe there's a chicken and egg in there.)

In other words, water flows where it's unimpeded. A flawed practice, celibacy and a better understanding of consent internalized via clearer, more consistent social mores (U.S. president is a rapist), maybe our dude would be more likely to figure out how to course correct or just jerk off like a normal person instead of being creepy or worse. Just a theory.

  4. I've always been fascinated by something like chronokinesis, which can include abilities to pause, rewind, speed up/slow down and various other manipulations of time.

But I worry this could lead to my personal experience becoming so weird and incomprehensible to anyone, that the alienation would eventually drive me crazy.

Maybe I should just stick with flying. 🤔

Nah, boring, never mind, make me a vampire. Yeah, I choose immortal, undead creature of the night as my superpower. Please super size that with a side of super strength, ability to run hundreds of miles per hour, and transform into bats, cats, ravens and wolves at will. Who even loves the sun? 😎

It's a common issue, but on our end, Sifu Terry sends out instructions to new students via his personal e-mail on how to join and find the forum, while assigning me to find people like this to get them over to the main thread until that's resolved. This was an issue addressed by the previous admin to get rid of the scammers and spammers, but it was never a permanent solution due to the fact that it is in the PPJ, it can't be found in public web searches the way that the old thread once was.

One day I'm going to have enough spare time and take enough ritalin to code my own forum. One of the features I envision is everyone being basically a mod of every topic they start, with the ability to add new mods to any of their topics as well (e.g. for this exact scenario, where someone would like trusted help moderating one of their popular, longstanding topics).
