She is usually associated with the Eye of Ra.  Ra the sun God had an energetic component called "sekhem" (often addressed as exalted sekhem).  The 't' ending to words  means female.  So Sekhemet or Sekhmet means she is the female embodiment of solar energy.  She has a wrathful aspect in this respect

Do you see a relationship between this and Hathor  ?

Yes indeed though Hathor has the cow aspect which more benign - her name means 'house of horus' or at least that is how it is usually translated.  The word for 'house' which is 'hwt' actually means the enclosure of a temple ... thus sacred ground.  She is a very ancient goddess and probably originally the sky consort of Horus (who himself was a sky god).  This probably older than the Heliopolitan sun cult of Ra which by the 4/5th dynasties had become prominent.  Sometimes Horus and Ra are conflated or become composite gods such as Ra-Horakhty etc sometimes the 'eye' or consort is One of a number of goddeses including even Isis depending on the locality of the tradition quoted.

Yes, I have seen Hathor related to 'the eye ' as well as Sekhmet .  The reason I asked is I  see that many people have a view of Hathor in her other aspects  ; 'benign'  .  Some say the more active or even wrathful aspect of her was Sekhmet .  But I did a practice for years on end -  'the 4 stations of the Sun '  - with adoration / invocation /meditation  at  dawn,  noon,  sunset and midnight , each day .  The noon position was ruled by Hathor  and seemed at first misplaced  ... especially here in summer with the fierce noonday sun , I imagined the same in Egypt .  However looking at a more traditional analysis , the placement  makes a lot more sense .

Congrats on doing that for years - what results did you get? If you are able to share.

LOTS !   I think if one sticks to a meditation 4 times a day for years on end , no matter what it is , you gonna get some remarkable results  :) ,

But you already know about all this  ;)   let's test your memory ;

Waaaaaaaaaaaaay back  , when I was a DB tadpole   and describing this in detail ... leaving thre note at midnight for myself

then you pipped in saying  " I left those notes  "    :D

remember  ?

Anyway I could recount it  as it was a very interesting experiment with  a few varied results .  But I think we should check with  Electric Sekhmet  first  , as the OP  .

or we could discuss elsewhere ?

I should mention it was not 4 x a day , every single day for all those years . I did it on and off for  many many years .  Once I was on a type of magical retreat / house minding for about 3 months , I made  a point of  not missing any , 4 x day each day .

Sometimes I would be going good with an unbroken record   and then mess that up .  Sometimes I would neglect it for a few  weeks and then come back to it .  The longest absence during those years  would have been up to several months , then I would go back to it .

Because those practices are UNGROUNDED and you already live in a very ungrounded world unless you work as a shepherd in Afghanistan.

In what sense do you mean this? That the other practices use mental activity? Or that they use “heavenly” energies as opposed to relying only on our body?

Too much Qi lingering in the head
Too much thinking

Liver Yang rising

Heat

Dampness/imbalance

If you have (like most people do) any of the above or all of them (very common) anything you mentioned is going to cause you what is called kundalini syndrome, seeing ghosts, communicating with spirits and bizarre stuff which fall under the umbrella of the "ungrounded syndrome."

To prevent that, do the following:

1. Leg work.

Foundation exercises like low basin walking, kung fu leg conditioning work (five stances), Asian squat, closed legs squat.

2. Walking meditation with bare feet for many hours a day when seated meditation practice is heavily emphasised.

3. Hiking for many hours in the natural environment.

If the practitioner suffers from being very ungrounded stop any seated meditation and work heavily on the above until the problem is corrected. This could mean months or even years depending on the length of the ungrounded state; eg. University student, academic, white-collar professional, etc. People born in Fire years or under a Fire sign like the Horse are particularly most at risk.

Hey guys, I hope this is an apropriate question for this forum, if not I apologize.

A few months back my interest in taoism started, probably due to the need of seeking something new. I was always interested in esotericism and more "occult" traditions for a lack of better terms. Doing some basic google search and the classic texts (dao de jing and zhuangzi) came up, but what I associated with taoism (and hoped to find out more about) were actual practices like qigong and neidan. At the same time, what seems to be more up my alley was the discovery of chinese folk religion. Now already there is so much material (books, videos, articles) that I managed to loose oversight, I dont even know if I am looking for the right things in the right spots. Sorry for this weird rambling, the important question is: where should I start in the many schools and offshots of taoism if I want to learn more about "magical" practices and is the familiarisation with philosophical taoism (and reading the important texts) necessary?

This is a slight deviation but I recommend Reiki. The attunements for me were deeply magical.

the skills of grounding and doing protection rituals are also included.

When you start opening up psychically there can be a lot coming at you, when this happens to me in overwhelm I switch on Reiki and navigate through difficulties.

if you like the idea of connecting with spirit guides and battling dark forces that may try it on I recommend Reiki. It’s quite a trip, for me at least.

Also like in some of the other esoteric arts I call on the 4 archangels for protection as a part of my practice.

stay grounded and stay protected my friend.

And never reach out further than your roots extend down.

peace and love.

Thrice

It’s just my opinion though. I’ve always found the system to be very sound.

Guess some of it is personal preference. I took mine very seriously though and was extremely clean in my energy when I went to the attunements.

They were in person and the group all stayed in a hotel. The teacher was very credible.
