I feel like I should have a better sense for virtue in a Daoist sense before taking on Confucius. 

You could probably wait until after your next reincarnation without doing your self any harm.

Yes, I see it as being grounded and gaining purity. Allowing this purity to run within and then to treat all others with one's own cultivated spirit.
