Is this THE Wang Li Ping?

Recommended Posts

I've met the Wang from the documentary. Not the guy from the book I am afraid.

Wang Li Ping from the book looks like this:

Somehow not as 'cool' looking as the guy from the documentary!

'Damo' you are correct, there are many Wang Li Ping's in China, the surname Wang is indeed like the English surname of Smith.

The documentary is still cool though and I certainly wouldn't doubt any of the skills of those in question least not this younger Wang Li Ping.

On the subject of the book 'Opening The Dragon Gate' does anyone know of any other books similar to this which don't rely on imaginative storytelling?

I found the documentary way too "commercial". I expected more from National Geographic, but I guess it depends what audience they targeted.

Seems to be trend with the way the Chinese government renews the interest in martial arts and religion in the country. Like making the Chen village the official place of Tai Chi. Good for tourism, schools etc. Not good for Tai Chi.

I didn't find the movie that fascinating either. The focus was on martial arts, much less on the Spiritual path.

And a monk who dreams that people worship him....!

Yes, yes - I realize I haven't achieved probably 1/1,000,000 of what he had, yet I doubt looking for fame is the goal of the Taoist immortality.

Loved the story of the Lotus Dragon. Very touching.

Warned my daughter, that Wu Tang is much cheaper than her public school here... :-)
