What is the effect of this? Of breathing down into the pernium like this.

 

I don't know, I can't do it :) At the moment, for me, it's about following the breath further - using it as a tool to bring more awareness to the pelvic region.

It might help to gently relax the anal muscles, and feel as if they're expanding like a balloon on the inhale. It's easier to feel it if you're laying down. I was taught it's best to pay attention to the sensations in the lower abdomen, while doing that.
