  1. I have two of these DVDs, it looks like much of it is of martial origin and quite effective. I haven't had a chance to look into them in-depth yet.
  2. No idea how to estimate percentages, I don't think anyone is familiar enough with every member's experience here to provide you that information. There are some overlapping practices between styles/arts/systems but the most common? Who knows? One thing I always check is the students of the masters, if the students are good then that's where I want to train. Of those teachers whose material I've looked over and whose students I've personally encountered I can recommend the following people. Bruce Kumar Frantzis - He is extremely knowledgeable and has something to teach. The appearance of his martial performance is rather bad due to repeated spinal injuries but "the goods" are there. His water tradition meditation is an extremely effective tool for clearing qi deviations from other practices and it dovetails well with the Sedona Method (thanks peacedog!). If you can I'd recommend training with a certified instructor of his system over buying the DVDs but the videos are usually quite good (there are better offerings for Yiquan though!). Kumar's system has martial, spiritual, sexual, and healing facets. He Jinbao/Andrew Nugent-Head - He Jinbao is Xie Peiqi's successor in the Men Baozhen lineage of Yin style baguazhang. The martial side of the system is extremely thorough and they structured it well for DVD presentation. The healing side is also well documented and Andrew is probably one of the best people to learn about classical Chinese medicine. Andrew's YouTube channel has a number of videos available for free. Chen Yu - Arguably one of the best taiji players out there. The only thing is he often leaves out the proper hip-dantien-tailbone mechanics for some of his students so they don't "get it." Chen Zhonghua - Joseph Chen is probably one of the few taiji instructors who publicizes himself that can also handle almost anything in push hands. While the appearance of his taiji is quite different from Hong Junsheng's (perhaps his training with Feng Zhiqiang influenced it) even though he is the international standard bearer. Everyone I've spoken to that has trained with him personally has been impressed with his skill. Having felt some of what his students can do I can definitely say the body mechanics used in Practical Method differ from the Chen village stuff taught publicly. It feels like you just attached to a rapidly spinning cylinder and got thrown away. He teaches a modified version of Feng's Hunyuan that is quite good for healing the body. Sam Chin - I Liq Chuan is basically Hakka arts mixed with taiji but taught very systematically and martially. They call it Zen mind, taiji body. It is not only martial but meditative as well. I've never touched Sam himself but the students of his I have touched have a very good idea of their own progress and skills in this system. Guang Ping Yang Taiji - This is probably my favorite non-Chen taiji I've encountered. The student's I've met of this system have also cross-trained arts like Hung Gar or Han shi Yiquan. One fellow really surprised hell outta me at work and we pushed right there. He kept saying I "got him" but I couldn't even feel it he was really capable of hiding his intent. Chris Davis - The fellow has trained Daito-ryu and big three neijia arts and is giving people the tools to develop the engine. Very good information and if you're in England go train with him!

  4. Liu He Ba Fa Chuan (Water Boxing)

    EDIT: Double post.
  5. Liu He Ba Fa Chuan (Water Boxing)

It's really hard to find legitimate liuhebafa and Wu Yihui may well have changed it throughout his life and the "history" may be largely hagiographical similar to the Zhang Sanfeng debate in taiji. So far my favorites have been from those who learned from Chan Yik Yan. Choi Wai Lun and Mok Kei Fei are the two I like most mainly because they have students that are willing to demonstrate and have the ability to speak about their art without referring back to other neijia arts like xingyi, bagua, or taiji. Student of Choi Wai Lun in Chicago as there don't seem to be any full form demos of Choi himself Mok Kei Fai For a slightly different flavor here is Cliff Lok teaching some people.
  6. A personality test that doesn't suck

Surprisingly I also got the Realistic Type.
  7. DreamBliss gears up for dating... HELP!

Yeah man OKCupid! is a numbers game so it works well for larger cities but smaller places can suffer from dating pool/friend pool "incest" pretty quickly.
  8. Richard Clear has some bagua instructional videos on YouTube. This style of bagua comes from Willem deThouars' Old Hand Kuntao which is a little different than most other lineages we see on video. This mix of Indonesian and early 20th century Chinese arts is very combat oriented.
  9. DreamBliss gears up for dating... HELP!

Holy shit talk about a cluster fuck train wreck that is your OKCupid! profile. Less personal, more marketing sirrah - that is my advice. Strategic omission is key. Present the good shite and let her discover the delta as you go along. I recommend removing new friends from your Looking For and make sure you specify you want to date as that's a wonderful excuse for friendzoning your ass, "I thought you were looking for friends." Save your Currently Reading etc. stuff for the actual date or messages so you have something to talk about. You might want to drop the superpowers thing as that instantly screams INSECURE, CHILDISH, FANTASY-PRONE to someone who has a little experience. Also, most people won't see virginity as a "special gift" but rather a sign of social and sexual ineptitude; you may not want to mention that you ARE the 40-Year-Old Virgin until you actually meet the person and maybe not even then. DON'T link to anything personal of yours in your profile wait for a message or two. Your profile is pretty much an excuse for someone to skip over you and put a tl;dr stamp on it. DO NOT KEEP A JOURNAL ON OKCUPID no one cares and it's not your blog. I'm right there with you on a decent body but we each have our own definitions of that. I tried dating a few bigger girls and yes, I had issues in the bedroom, the physical just didn't work. Sometimes we have to look at ourselves in the mirror and make changes. I slimmed myself down because I recognized that a slimmer woman probably wouldn't want to be with a man that looks like he's pregnant any more than I want to be with a woman whose shape is like the Michelin man's. Honestly though mang, move. It's that simple. An actual city will give you a larger pool to draw prospective mates from and an active social life is pretty much key. You can't expect to date well when you're the hermit in the middle of nowhere living on the family farm.
  10. New 100-Day Challenge!

While I was not participating in the beginning I'd like to share something that I've been doing the past month or so - neigong on a bicycle. A little while back I was riding my bicycle for the first time in what seemed like ages and wondered if I could still ride without hands. Confirming that I now have much better balance than I previously did I then experimented with holding the ball. Once holding the ball with minor silk reeling internal adjustments was not an issue I moved into larger silk reeling patterns. Well one thing I've learned is that chansi enables me to steer without hands so long as none of the turns are too sharp. I've also noticed that I have to massage my legs more and stretch but it also "densifies" my legs by stabilizing qi and removing blockages. Big increases in stability and balance as well as power have come about in the past few weeks and I'm quite pleased with the results. Non-physically I've noticed a number of things. Firstly, I am so grateful for a canal path where I can ride and work on this with some level of privacy it seems when others look at what I'm doing I get these weird energy bursts. Secondly, I seem to enter this "stream" state if I can get my breathing and leg pumping in proper sync. It's really intense and things seem to move like I'm about to jump to hyperspace from Star Wars. Thirdly, I'm far more detached from physical/emotional sensation. I recently tripped on some psilocybin mushrooms and it was one of the most productive and purifying mushroom experiences I've ever had - during that trip found and banished an attached serpent entity that had coiled around my throat and sunk its fangs into my heart. If you want to try this make sure your seat is up high enough so that your leg almost extends all the way (85-90%) and your K1 point is on the center of the pedal. I don't have clips but that would probably make this whole thing easier.
  11. This documentary is pretty close to many experiences from my childhood. It made me cry to watch it years ago and I recommend it to anyone that is curious about the Christian right in the USA - yes, they do teach their children to vote Republican from a young age.

  14. Peace Out for Now

Gotta take a break from this place again. There are a few people that are contributing some really good stuff lately but my ignore list keeps getting longer. I'm just going to practice some more.
  15. The dark figure of autism cases in society

Your rant seems to have little point but I'm glad you had an outlet to vent in. Shit I'm an autistic weed smoker. Psychopathy (sociopath isn't used any more in clinical settings) is very much a yes/no question as fMRI studies show significant difference in psychopaths' brain structures. Remember that the Internet provides a screen so that one can easily dehumanize the person on the other end because all one sees is an avatar and their text. Human social interaction is not just the content of our words but also tone of voice, body language, and pheromones. Without any of the other sensory information to inform you the interaction is largely incomplete.
  16. 11pm - 1am practice is a completely different experience.
  17. just had an awesome meditation

Honestly, scraping the resin out of my weed pipe is a very easy meditation for me, mind goes empty and I have clean pipe after.
  18. psychotropic drugs

Eh, I've been through my share of drugs both prescribed and illegal. I participated in a stage III drug trial of agomelatine for 18 months a few years back and have taken a couple of vacations in the looney bin. Agomelatine is some of the best dope I've ever done, talk about dreams! The only prescribed drug I take regularly is my asthma control inhaler.
  19. psychotropic drugs

Ugh... don't blame your ignorance on others. If you want to speak on a subject with authority you must first know it.
  20. Too many to count. Absorbed a lot of ridiculous shit from my fundamentalist Baptist upbringing. I try not to think about it, just address the shit as it comes up.
  21. Can someone help me find a protest?

Sorry, wish I could. Typically all the protests I hear of are by word of mouth from my poetry friends or it's announced on the local news.
  22. PLB don't wrack your brain trying to figure out how rooting through the empty leg relates to fajin - it's just more open and close and yi. Better to push hands more than talk here about it. Honestly the physics behind some of what we are doing isn't even fleshed out well yet. Tensegrity, fluid dynamics, rapid impulses, multiple triangular load and force transfers, not to mention lengthening of an acceleration path (spiral imagery) all contribute to what we do in internal martial arts.
  23. The Flying Monk

I've enjoyed it so far. Students of Serge Augier talking shop is definitely interesting. I'd like to see the man himself talk a bit but I'm sure that's down the road. In this trailer you can see both Serge and Steve move, it's obvious they've put a LOT of time into their arts.
  24. Do you custom build computers?

I used to when I was in high school and right afterward. Honestly, even in large towns there isn't much of a market for it. I managed a computer store in downtown Phoenix for a few months and have worked in various IT positions. Most of the people who want a really good computer and can afford it can also build it themselves. If you want "real" suppliers you'll need a business and to setup a wholesale account. Otherwise just NewEgg it or whatever online vendor you prefer will work.
