You’re welcome. My interest is in translating the DDJ from characters, that’s what brought me to the forum. I don’t have a “practice” as such.

Atrahasis (Ziusudra/Noah), The Great Flood, and the Tablet of the Covenant
Cobie replied to 心神 ~'s topic in Abrahamic Religions Discussion
The New Testament was written in Koine Greek. The singular is θεός (theos) which can mean god or God. John 10:34, uses θεοί (theoi), https://biblehub.com/text/john/10-34.htm , that’s the plural. Context is everything, Jesus had only one God. Also the Hebrew it refers to points to gods. -

I thought the idea of this thread was to post something quite long. Then for the next one to simplify that.

The DDJ defines ‘virtue’ e.g. in ch. 51 (Henricks): … 7. 生 而 弗 有 也 (sheng1 er2 fu2 you3 ye3) It gives birth to them but doesn't try to own them; 8. 為 而 弗 志 也 (wei4 zhi4) It acts on their behalf but doesn't make them dependent; 9. 長 而 勿 宰 也 (zhang3 wu4 zai3) It matures them but doesn't rule them. 10. 此 之 謂 玄 德 (ci3 zhi1 wei4 xuan2 de2) This we call Profound Virtue.

What actions brings us closer or further away to/from the light

life 101 I can always think and feel what I like. I can’t always do and say what I like. -

Meaning depends on context. The word "emptiness" in (Google) Soto Zen is not about nothingness. Re. the saying, “form is emptiness, emptiness is form” English dictionary: ‘emptiness’ - the state of containing nothing ‘form’ - the visible shape of something Using English definitions the saying makes no sense. (Google) Soto Zen Buddhism: ‘emptiness’ (sunyata) - impermanence and interdependence of all phenomena. ‘form’ - things of the physical world Using Zen definitions the saying seems almost superfluous to mention, obviously the case. -
context decides the meaning: form is emptiness, emptiness is form.

righto, might be why we say “checkmate”

There’s no such thing as “coincidence” for a Buddhist feline. I deduce Gato Blanco must be your sock-puppet. ‘there can be only one’ it might be @liminal_luke in Mexico! “meaningful”, oops, don’t go, will get to that. Are you interested in the Dao De Jing?

Thank you for giving your perspective. My experience is different. My experience is that my natural state is to be aware. It was only by tensing my body that I could enter the lie of unawareness. So in my experience unawareness requires action.

… 敚[糸禾], … Silent and still, 独立而不亥,it stands on its own and does not change. … 字之曰道。 … We refer to it as the Dao. (DDJ ch. 25 , Henricks)

Lol, I spoke too early. Good to see ‘steve’ back, no doubt still ‘ben way’ [or as I read it, 本道 (ben3 dao4) truth]
