Is Laughter slander?

Recommended Posts

This 9th century monk:

has made me chuckle.

When I started my path around 10 years prior to now, I read Burton Watson's (? forgot that last name) translation of the Lotus Sutra. In that translation, I was instructed to never slander a Sutra, as that would be the worst possible offensive karmic condition.

So Ten years after, reading Linji causes me to chuckle.

He hits every other monk who asks a question. He himself was beaten for asking questions.

The theory of osmosis...

"If I hit you hard enough, can I transmit some of my wisdom?

I'm not sure, but I'll try..."

Reminds me of all those, often very funny, Zen stories where they always seem to be taking theirs shoes off and slapping each other around the face with them!!

As for the three gates, well, two of them often seem to serve the same purpose!!
