Greetings from a Californian in Taiwan

Recommended Posts

Greetings from San Chung City on the beautiful Taoist island of Taiwan,

I was interested in Daoism way back in my university days (and when I say "way back", I mean "waaaay back" circa late 1970s) and kind of stuck with it over the years. In the past few years I have gotten a lot more serious about it.

I have lived here in Taiwan for the past 14 years and am married to a Taiwanese. I teach law here in Taiwan and have a strong interest in Taiwanese martial arts.

I look forward to meeting you all.

take care,

Brian

Here in the states taoism is exotic and strange. In Taiwan I'd expect it to be more common. I know a number of masters fled there during the cultural revolution.

How common is it there? What kind of practices do you do?

Yours

Michael

Very cool. My Tai Chi teacher is from Taiwan and I lived in Koushung (spelling) for a bit. I loved the temples. My teacher taught me the internal stuff but never did it himself. He was Catholic but still went to Taoist temples. He said Chinese will get married in a Taoist temple, buried in a Buddhist one and may go to a Christian church on Sunday. They dont look at religion like we do. Or maybe it was just him?

What is your experience of their salad bar approach to religion?
