  1. Stripping The Gurus

Hmmm interesting - what about a person who prefers to be malicious rather than kind - not for any reason but just because they can - are they evil? I don't know the answer - just thinking.

  6. Stripping The Gurus

evil O.E. yfel (Kentish evel) "bad, vicious," from P.Gmc. *ubilaz (cf. O.Saxon ubil, Goth. ubils), from PIE *upelo-, giving the word an original sense of "uppity, overreaching bounds" which slowly worsened. "In OE., as in all the other early Teut. langs., exc. Scandinavian, this word is the most comprehensive adjectival expression of disapproval, dislike or disparagement" [OED]. Evil was the word the Anglo-Saxons used where we would use bad, cruel, unskillful, defective (adj.), or harm, crime, misfortune, disease. The meaning "extreme moral wickedness" was in O.E., but did not become the main sense until 18c. Related: Evilly. Evil eye (L. oculus malus) was O.E. eage yfel. From online etymological dictionary.
  7. Qi Dao - Lama Somananda Tantrapa

Hi Freeform, Here's the link I posted above again to the thread about qi dao Qi Dao If you follow it you will find that I asked him about his 27 generational lineage then. I want to stress that he seems a pleasant charming person and may well know a lot but I have to say he may have strayed into the imaginative marketing trap. Cheers A.
  8. Qi Dao - Lama Somananda Tantrapa

Just re-read this whole thread - well scanned - it because I thought I had lost the plot. Does anyone know why he calls himself a Lama? What's the basis for this. I don't care that much - I would just like to know.
  9. Stripping The Gurus

I think this is the right point - although not just westerners the whole human race. It is hard, life can be hard and some people want shelter or to believe someone else can take away their own responsibility. If you have low energy or have developed low self esteem for instance then it is helpful to work with others who will support you - but the goal of this should be to put you back on your feet again not to develop further dependency. This can not happen where the 'guru' claims some kind of exclusive access to the divine or to spirituality - because although some people are further along the path compared to others anyone who is on the path at all is basically in the same ball park.
  10. Spring feeling

  12. Rocks

Thanks for the pics Scotty - they are wonderful. Where's this one from? A.
  13. Qi Dao - Lama Somananda Tantrapa

For me its no so much a question of what Lama means or what it means to me - the question is why would anyone who is not actually a Lama want to call themselves a Lama? What advantage is it to them or anyone? Is it, dare I say it, part of some kind of marketing package, to sex up your practice so that more people will be interested (and consequently be willing the pay more)? The same goes for the over estimating of lineages and so on. What is the point of it? What advantage does it bring? What is the motivation? Commercial or otherwise?
  14. Haiku Chain

hope no-one takes them... pills that erase memory forgot if I did.

  16. Zhan Zhuang Qigong

Hi Mal, Can't get that link to work could you check it? Thnks. A.
  17. Why Qigong Seems Bogus To Skeptics

In my opinion Qi has to be properly understood and not many people do this. There are a lot of charlatans around but also there are a lot of well meaning people who get carried away when they raise a bit of Qi. This is because of the subjective effects of Qi which open up possibilities in the mind beyond the actual abilities developed by the practitioner. Genuine siddhis occur in the later stages of spiritual development, these are siddhis which allow interaction with the physical world. The kind of siddhis which develop in the first stages are those of perception - clairvoyance and so on. Energy at a distance demonstrations are to do with attunement between the teacher and pupil - they are valid but not properly explained. You will notice that invariably the demonstrator chooses a known 'disciple' on which to demonstrate and not a complete stranger. This is because the Qi demonstrated is not energy transmitted over a distance (which should be scientifically measurable) but a resonance effect between the mind of one person and another. Because the Qi cannot be properly objectively measured it can be dismissed by scientists as bogus. Just my thoughts.

  24. Glenn Morris's Meditation Mastery Series

I read a bit of Path Notes on Googlebooks and liked it ... but it was only two chapters I think. First time I've read any Glenn Morris and I liked the directness of it.
