In animal species, a comparison of heart rates with life span indicates that lower heart rates provide longer lives.   It probably works with humans too

If you’re speaking as a general rule, an inference that needs to be tested.

If you have a specific system as a case study, it’s still relative only to that system.

@Earl Grey Reading the forum it seems to me that you are a well trained person, with good experience in different internal methodologies. What do you think about fasting or IF as a training strategy?

I don't speak of it generally, I speak of it relative to your specific internal practice. Without knowing exactly what system you do, I can't comment and for general fasting and IF, if you aren't doing anything internal (yet), consult the existing science as it assumes no variables from cultivation impacting it or being impacted by it.

That way I can destroy my enemies in front and behind simultaneously after enjoying any of a number of my favorite meals!

  4. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Sifu Terry has decided that the 6-volume  CKFH DVD series teaching the FP Qigong will NOT be available on digital file format (mp4) but will continue to be available only on DVD at:
    http://www.taichimania.com/chikung_catalog.html

Instead of selling digital downloads, Sifu Terry will be creating a subscription-based streaming service attached to www.taichimania.com where practitioners can select and stream any of the six CKFH DVD programs --as well as the Tai Chi For Health, Tai Chi Sword, Tai Ruler, and Liu He Ba Fa (6 Harmonies/8 Methods) programs--at any time during their subscription period.  All will be notified when this streaming platform goes online.

    Hello Sifu @zen-bear
Bought the DVDs last sunday, been entering the practice since then.

I do have a question regarding the breathing percentage and the form of breathing (havent finished the 219 pages here, so it might or might not be awnsered already, sorry if it is the case!)

I tend to do, in my normal day to day, a full breathing, filling first the dan tien,  and then keeping the air go to the chest and finally to the lower part of the throat.

Was wondering if this kind of breathing is OK to do, when doing the breathing patterns at the beginning?
For me, its a normal breathing, and doing only dan tien breathing its like I have to think about it.

But want to do the FP as it is how it has to be done.

    to put it together:
Is it okay if I breath with this full body, while doing FP? Or it has to be a lower abdominal breathing only?

    Thanks!!

    Simplest answer: breathe naturally.

Also, the concise version of this thread is here on the AG forum:

I will check that. Maybe just meditation can mix well too, because after all fasting is an internal rest, a pause for the digestive system and other internal organs. Maybe meditation is also a kind of mental and physical rest, so it can add up

It depends on the kind of meditation you do—there are many different types.

maybe I am asking a stupid question, but is there any system that mixes well with intermitent fasting, adding to its benefits?

Sleeping qigong as taught by John Dolic.

@Earl Grey  In the broader sense, all activities use up Yuan Chi.  Martial arts could have some strenuous trainings or simulated combat that simply decrease lifespan.   Persons trained in the art is more prone to involve in actual fighting, which needless to say, can cause injuries that could never recover.

There's a big difference between Bagua and Muay Thai, and this still isn't yuan qi.

But I think this thread has enough people who are certain of themselves, and I'm just going to say "Mmmmm-kay."

An exercise that could prolong a soldier's life and improve performance would be extremely useful in my opinion.

Too bad that it doesn't work.

    It does exist--it's called Baduanjin.

    Spoiler

What? Were you expecting some sUpEr SeCrEt fajin and iron shirt? :P

I believe that if this practice was truly effective, then the military would have already introduced it into recruit training programs.

Probably it's better to stick to air breathing.

Turtles also breath through their anuses (no, really). Can't imagine the military finding that useful. Oh, wait:

  11. Internal martial arts at the very least guarantees that you will survive a war or bandits, while giving you practices that keep your body healthy, mind alert for dangers of both man and nature and how to avoid or endure them.

The health benefits keep you focused on living well while not burning yourself out the way more external practices can wear your joints down or exhaust your kidneys from excessive adrenaline and overexertion from the cardio and heightened tension.

Normal breathing and remaining calm under all situations as well as being able to control those situations to prevent conflict and even win with words because you've sized up a situation and projected peace and power to maintain order.

  12. My injury delaying the planned future video demonstration:

I slipped and fell on a dirt slope. Had to go to the hospital afterwards, where the doctor tasked with helping out said that in addition to helping safely remove this nail, she would cut the other nine toenails because her female instincts were telling her that it was unacceptable to let me leave without showing me "the real way to cut my own nails" and then went on a rant about how men don't know how to trim their own nails, women somehow always have to clean up after us, and just ask whomever is my girlfriend in the future to confirm this sentiment.

@Earl Grey what advice would you give to anyone looking to learn?

There is a specific sequence for learning that I know and teach which must be followed to the letter, no experimentation, just like if one were to practice neigong.

Break from the training sequence, and you risk harming yourself at worst and wasting time achieving nothing at best.

You'll never build the foundation if you only look at sensations or self-deception from people on the Internet who think they know how to do it when they've never experienced it.

For example what teacher are you learning from?

I've mentioned in earlier threads, but for sake of convenience, I learn from the lineage of late GM David Chan and his successor JR Rodriguez (edit: and Greg Colmenares), and I'm taking the reins after the end of this year so that he can retire.

Are there any videos you can share with us about fajin? (Either from you or others)

    Spoiler

I'm mulling over posting videos of myself doing it and some demonstrations with some volunteers from a local biker group who don't do internal arts after two of them shared their experience with the little guy who was immovable a few weeks ago; just waiting on when I'm supposed to meet them for this, but sadly, I have an injury in my left toe and so will need a few weeks more to recover as I can only do one-legged trials now due to mobility being limited and extreme pain after the nail got partially ripped off.

Even then, I may just list them in our private forum on AG for members and then other videos for current registered students in good standing rather than for public scrutiny and juvenile remarks--especially given that a friend who posted faqi videos got a lot of ignoble boors making uninformed comments.

From a mod who wants to prevent conflict and claims to respect all practices, this doesn't seem like a comment written with the spirit of respect or good faith.

But hey: it's your forum, your rules, your opinion.
