kakapo Posted 15 hours ago (edited) Dear Staff, I do not envy your job, I am certain it is not easy. There is a rule in effect which states that certain topics are off limits. Currently there are members which are posting derogatory comments which go against this rule on their personal website, and linking to that in their posts. The discussion does not happen here in this forum, but they are linking to it in their posts for all to read. I feel that this defeats the spirit of the rule. My question is if they are allowed to do this, will we be allowed to do the same to counter it? Edited 15 hours ago by kakapo

liminal_luke Posted 14 hours ago My understanding is that you can provide a link to an outside source that says whatever you like. The moderators don´t police sites other than TDB. (I reserve the right to say otherwise if it turns out I´m wrong. It´s happened before. )

I am worried about allowing one side to do it while stopping the other side. Can we get an official statement on this? I want to make sure the ban hammer doesn't come down on me or my group when we do the same thing.

The mod team are a group of volunteers (that is ordinary members) whose role is to ensure that this site is a place where any member can post happily and truthfully. There are a number of rules that have been introduced over the years with the purpose of keeping the peace. These have been adopted progressively based on experience. Each report or instance of posting is considered by the mod team when it arises. We don’t issue general amnesties or permissions as we deal with each instance as it arises. The site is well run and successful and we want to keep it that way while being as permissive as possible. However if someone pushes at the general wish for mutual respect and so on they may well be suspended or banned. This would include introducing external battles and feuds onto the DaoBums site.

Thank you, Apech. I understand that you judge things case-by-case. However, leaving this gray area creates an unfair situation. Right now, one side is allowed to link to a page calling us "mentally disabled schizophrenic cult member parasites," while I am afraid to post a defense because I might get banned for it. This results in selective enforcement: one side has a voice, and the other is silenced by fear of the rules. I am asking for a simple Yes or No regarding this current situation: Is the link attacking us allowed to stay? If Yes: Then I request explicit staff pre-approval to post a link to my response so that I am not retroactively suspended for doing the exact same thing. If No: Then the link needs to be removed immediately. Which one is it? I just want a fair playing field.

I’m locking this thread - no more discussion on this please. 3
