Likely a protracted 'civil war' with funding of resistence forces by US black budget ops and hands off money pushing to those with fingers on triggers.

 

Typical US/South American Diplomacy...  nauseating on both sides.

It's very possible Pompeo and friends gave this operation a nod, knowing it would be bungled and the guys would be captured, so that now they can do a rescue operation as cover for something bigger.

Two interesting details here,one is pompeo denies DIRECT involvement of the US.The other is that fishermen alerted the authorities  and even assisted their capturing.I am so surprised about this part, I expected the Venezuelans would assist bring Maduro down and then carry the heroes on shields and offer them their prettiest maidens.

As I heard a wise person say once, if anyone comes to you with a plan that involves "and then the people will revolt and welcome us as liberators!" run very far in the other direction.
