The Legend Of Korra

Recommended Posts

In the first Avatar show there was a war between all the nations. Bending was the main way of fighting and the world was less technologically advanced. Because of the first comet and Fire Nation's new technology, like tanks, they got the upper hand for most of the series. The only way for there to be peace, the Avatar must defeat the Fire Lord.

Defeating him is more of a political type of move. Iroh explained that if he beat his brother, the history would say that it's just another power struggle between brothers in the royal family. Avatar would be a neutral outside thing that stops the struggle because the Avatar is always seen as the good guy and only one person who is outside of the system.

The Avatar won, happy end and everything worked out, you know the show.

In the future the technology started to be more advanced reliable and used very commonly. Because of the technology the bending starting to become less useful since technology can do some of the same things and be used by non-benders. Bending was mostly used for fighting in the past and so they organize bending tournaments for entertainment.

Bending itself is starting to loose its power and can mostly be used for violence. There are gangs of benders who are stronger then normal folks, to fight the gangs there is a bending police force. It would be nice if bending could only be used by the police but the gangs are still stronger then most normal people and so there is crime. When bending is seen as cause of violence and the cause of many wars in the past, the resistance forms where normal people go against benders.

Bending doesn't have any safe footing and is being pushed out by the technology and the resistance. Soon enough there will be no place left for bending, in the cartoon.

Because energy follows the course of less resistance, people will look for easier ways to do things and technology will prosper and push out things people have no faith in anymore. Maybe right now we are loosing things that are more important then we think.

There will always be some who are more suited to bending than technologies.

In fact.. if it is shown that the benders can do stuff which the technologies can't.. that's when the masses turn back to bending..

Many things are lost over time.

There are many technolgy knowledge for handcrafting very useful stuff to live autarchic.

Such technology like build boats by bulrushes like in ancient egypt which are also found in middle america which could even survive the oceans, or making boat like the Quileute who can made boats transport whales.

Most people who are lost by some accidents in the wilderness would leave their body soon because they actually do not know how to find food, discern them cleanse and find water. And we are not even talk about dowsing, using Qi to regulate extrem weather, control metabolism.

People have become fulltime consumers. Everyday you can get milk, you get juice and fresh fruits in winter, ice in summer. There is light in the dark.

For spirutal light in the dark is good, but for the consumer is a reason for faster degeneration as more time to consume and waster life force- with pleasure.

Hey Sinfest, props on the webcomic! I remember reading that a year or so ago (although I don't remember that particular part...) but I can't remember the name of the webcomic!!

That's the one! Dresden Codak. I read the Hob story arc, but haven't read anything since. Definitely one of the highest quality webcomics out there. Entertaining to boot. Thanks for reminding me about it. :)

When I watch the new series, Korra is different from Aang.

The story has many situation which give the viewer a shift of perception, especially from the watching of Aangs storyline.

T

he first thing to confront is : Aang is dead.

The second thing Korra is reincarnation of Aang but the character is not Aang.

There are different views. One is Korra was Aang again Aang was father from Tenzin.

Tenzin again again teach Air bending, I ask me what struggle he has since in the szenes he was easily agitated when spoken of his father again his father is now Korra.

While the expectation of the civils are that they not divide into different indiviudals but into stereotype of "the avatar" especially the old have seen how the avatar was and put on Korra a burden of expectation based on the past.

Again we have Toph Beifongs daugther who is antagonist to Korra which seem to have to do with some incident.

There is also a clash of generation. As in the past it was ok to go and beat up criminals as the avatar. Now there was a szene where Korra did so and I cant remember that Aangs has ever get so much trouble when trying to help. Later it is also seen

that she can only help when in cooperation with the police forces.

As well the surrounding has changed. First look in the beginnging all seem fine and nothing changed but when arriving the the city it looks fully industrialized

but not only this changed, lightning bending and metal bending, higher levels of bending seem to be common. And also there is confrontation with the fear of loss, the loss of bending abillity since the Chiblockers Leader find a way to take away permenant the bending. Korra is then in conflict which I think is not only the fear of been taking bending away as she stated how much she liked it.

But the question is also in this Series if Korra has no bending, would she be still Korra, would she still be the Avatar?

The storyline also question power and not only bending, but political as well

having a circle of problems : Bending - non bender feels oppressed by Bender who are criminals but generalize to all who can Bend- which leads to opposition to attack Criminals and Citizens alike which again is criminal act for the civilist and heroic act for them as they have in one scene has cancel the bending of a gang boss- this cause reaction of the status quo which call out for a special force asking Korra to "help" mostly using her power and popluarity to get the goal.

Generation clash again are in the teaching of Korra. Since she is already talented have beside Air all bending is super strong and stubborn and having real problem to manage Air Bending cause the traditional way of learning (Tenzin teach, with peaces and out of trouble, quite monastic way) vs the way in life (Bender Arena, on the street against criminals) having both different opionions since Korra do not get click in to do the air bending while Tenzin again strictly hold to the traditional way.

There was a szene which is a enligthend szene of having Korra in the Arena

and in term of losing the arena game use the Air bendings step teaching she miserably did when doing the orginal exercise. Tenzin was about to go away but has a shift in his mind when he saw that Korra understand it in the Arena. The result was that Korra said sorry to Tenzin. Seem that one interpretation is that the appropiate why is neither only traditional or modern but what is appropiate.

Zen is known in this tradition very well to say and to act proper in the moment

which cause Satori and which NLP is try to reproduce.

There seem a lots to come in this series and many messages between the lines to think upon.

Best,

Q
