O.K. I have a little story to share. This summer I discovered amanita muscaria mushroom aka fly agaric mushroom in our forest which was an amazing find for Minnesota. Of course I researched it before ingesting it but I did a nine hour full lotus trip on the mushroom and I blogged on it. The documentary is maybe boring or too speculative for those who have not taken the amanita muscaria mushroom. But since I knew the experience I am not at all surprised that it would be given a crucial role behind religion.

This is fascinating. The Reishi mushroom may have been a code for Amanita Muscaria as it was called the toad-mushroom and then toads have DMT. Amanita does not have DMT but it does increase your DMT levels by working as an MAOI.

Just so people know the urine contains a less toxic version of the psychoactive chemical from the amanita muscaria. Yes I did drink my urine when doing amanita muscaria although I watered it down. but that is standard for this mushroom.

Wow so in that thread Sean Denty says Mantak Chia does not "see the light" in his on dark cave meditation room. That's too bad. I mean I was wondering what abilities Mantak Chia had. I know Chunyi Lin said when he did his seven week full lotus cave meditation that at first he was scared but then this third eye opened up and the cave filled with light and then he traveled into heaven and it was the best time of his life.

 

Yeah so much for shrooms as the real secret to religion but still it's fun to read about all their speculative theories and sure some did pursue psychedelic shrooms in China as elixirs of immortality. It was probably like in the Bushmen culture and elsewhere -- a tool for those who needed extra help. haha.

Turns out the myth of flying reindeer might not be that far from the truth: According to a piece in Pharmaceutical Journal by scientist Andrew Haynes, they (along with other animals) sometimes deliberately eat hallucinogenic fungi in order to amuse themselves during long winters.

 

The Sun reports:

 

Haynes believes reindeer deliberately seek out the mushrooms to escape the monotony of dreary long winters.

 

Writing in the respected Pharmaceutical Journal, Mr Haynes said: "They have a desire to experience altered states of consciousness.

 

"For humans a common side-effect of mushrooms is the feeling of flying, so it's interesting the legend about Santa's reindeer is they can fly."

 

In a slightly less appetizing tidbit, Haynes went on to say that herdsmen have been known to drink their own reindeer's urine in an effort to catch a buzz themselves.

Death of James Arthur (1958 - 2005) #

James Arthur (Dugovic), author of the book Mushrooms and Mankind, died April 15th, 2005 while incarcerated in Madera County California. He was 47 years old. According to news reports, he was found dead in his jail cell with a sheet tied around his neck. His death has been ruled a suicide, although some controversy has been aired on public forums regarding the circumstances surrounding his arrest and death.

 

He had been arrested April 25, 2004 on six child molestation charges "involving three children younger than age 14". It has also been alleged that he was a registered sex offender stemming from a 1996 conviction in Fresno County. He was being held on $300,000 bail.

 

James Arthur was known for his writing and lecturing on the topic of mushrooms and religion. He was working on a book with Jack Herer at the time of his arrest. Though it's unlikely that Arthur will be remembered for his scholarship, many enjoyed his presentations that drew connections between religious historical art and psychoactive mushrooms.
