Into the West

Recommended Posts

Just a thought. There is lots of evidence of Buddhism, Vedanta going East; Bodhidharma etc. But what evidence do we have of Taoism going West? There is evidence of Chinese Buddhists travelling on Occidental pilgrimages. Did Lao Tzu really, perhaps, head (West)to India and spread some of his ideas on the Tao and perchance assist Sakyamuni? If you go so far into the Occident you end up in the Orient. As stated just a thought.

I don't know. I think that Taoism pretty much remained a Chinese philosophy except for what was taken to Japan by the Buddhists who had accepted some of the Taoist concepts and incorporated them into Zen.

Once the Europeans (and Americans) invaded China all that changed though.
