  1. Why do masters keep secrets?

Maybe it's that there are some things that are not communicable through verbal teachings. A master may infer the way, point in the direction, allude to truth. The truth must be internalized by the process of realization, the inner gulps of 'Aha!'that set a knowledgeable man apart from a self-realized man.
  2. Taoism for the beginner

My suggestion would be to study 3 or 4 translations of the Tao and compare passage to passage. In this way the essence can be obtained.
  3. Is renunciation the only way to unite with Dao?

To renunciate might not be only way of getting to the here and now. There are plenty of us who managed to find our way through the 12 steps of recovery, which would be similar but actually turns out having a huge effect on ego. The steps entail doing a 'fearless and thorough moral inventory' (which is the same as developing a 'christ consciosness', as far as I can tell. That's where we develop the ability to see ourselves for what we really are, warts and all - and yet to not 'take it personally' and have to wade through the drama of learning that we're not perfect. Then, once the inventory is finished, one must not only give the results of your personal inventory to another (a humiliating experience), but the real fun starts when we have to go around and make amends to people we have harmed in our life. Once that is completed, the ego is pretty much in the toilet. Does renunciation share this wonderful aspect of humiliation?
  4. If I am so cultivated.... why am I tubby?

Could it be that we are constantly manifesting what we need? If we think we need protection from seeing something within ourselves, or storing a fear of some emotional dynamics, perhaps the body grows a shield of fat cells. Maybe the trick then becomes doing the rather painful inner work that one is protecting against.
  5. Everyone post some favorite quotes!

At some level, the answer is usually Do Nothing. -Direct knowledge -

  9. Hi to all

Hi Valerio, nice to have you here -
  10. On Time as Relativity

from 'mothership', discussing Reiser: nodes of overlapping waves - superlight waves - show group waves where to go and their product is light and matter. magnetic fields are the ganglia of the World Brain. is there any reason I keep visualizing the aurora borealis?
  11. On Time as Relativity

there used to be a magazine, i believe it was called Synthesis; it was captivating in that it posited that philosophy and science were walking up the same hill on different sides. i recall in particular one article that talked about small sediments of sand being subjected to some degree of vibration. the sand would repeatedly clump to form the shapes found in nature how close science and philosophy appear to be getting. what an exciting time in which to be a skinwalker. i wish i had your knowledge; i have merely read The Tao of Physics and i've been enthralled ever since. i wish i could understand half of what you write about; i can only intuit. i do believe i shall start reading your blog. thank you drew.

it seems like time must be an integral part of the quantum theory if a particle requires only space to be, then a wave requires time to get from point a to point b. if time is curved, then certainly it folds back on itself. and it is really not linear at all and it is all Now. sometimes i wonder if we fell into the illusion of time from the beginning, when the ancients started building rock structures to let them know when to celebrate the harvest or when to offer the sacrifice was that the beginning of anxiety? of the illusion of separation from Spirit, from each other? before time was laid out in linear fashion everything was Now. it seems that those masters like dennis have cut through the illusion of the physical by working with the glue of the illusion, unconditional love, agape love, non judgment. you have put it into words so well, brian. thank you for taking the time. it slowed down for me just now.

  18. Greetings all. (new member)

Duncan - warmest welcome to this place. When I first landed on the Tao, maybe 20 years ago, I went to China. One of the places was Yangshou - is that the same town as where you studied (only with an Americanized spelling?) If so, I remember so well the night market there. I just looked up a poem I had written in a journal.... the Other People take over streets of Yangshou at night; people of the Day are gone, their toil ended. yokes and baskets set down awaiting tomorrow's cargo. the Other People tiptoe out hiding in doorways. faces barely discernable by dim light of a naked bulb on a wire. A flash of recognition as eyes quickly meet, then faces turn into shadows. dark night street slaps face of propriety, dark hands gesture toward forbidden things on a table to passers-by like me. a woman's heavy breathing rises above the din playing over a loudspeaker inviting curious eyes to look behind the curtain of a small wooden stall. straw baskets of dimly lit forms invite the double-take only to recognize the shadowy silhouette of a dead dog on a plate. Evil pervades and entices The Other within me.
  19. A Toltec view of Self

stalking the self. one should tarry there a bit longer what can really be achieved without removing ego? nothing. nothing. the secret to recovery from addictive behavior is to stalk the self. discover our defects, own up to them. own them. the humiliating experience of making an amend to a longstanding enemy. to go down deep where addiction covers what is lacking inside us to pry open the pain and to take full responsibility for self. then, and only then can all else be achieved the inner work must be done before the one is found. this applies to all. damn.

  24. Dying in meditation

Yoda said, "From what I surmise, a normal person can achieve this but we have to find a practice that really lights a fire" perhaps this stroll in the Tao is what people find when they prefer another's hands on their neck at the moment of sexual orgasm. that practice should light a fire, as it were
  25. Hello, Could someone help me?

welcome to the site, neo. at another soul level you must be ready to merge spirit with physical manipulation of nature. could the next step be to use it in healing? glad you're here. manitou
