  2. taichi and brazilian jiujitsu

Don't know a whole heck of a lot about taiji, but there is a BJJ black belt who has a DVD on combining things like aiki with BJJ. Good stuff.

Orgone-crystals IS the site I recommended. Or i don't know if I recommended it, but that's where I got my orgonite. And still not sure if it works or not. I also have the harmonic protector that Carol Croft made. I don't know if that works either, and i really don't like wearing plastic, but it did cause quite the stir at my school. I told my students I got it from some weirdos who think it will protect against aliens, but that I just thought it looked cool. which is pretty close to the truth. One student told me he'd say a prayer for me, because it didn't look right. He said he was worried some demon spirit would come out of it. I said "like that?" and pointed to the devil picture the guy next to him was drawing. The kid on the other side of him had drawn all kinds of 666 signs and things on his eraser, and so he kept trying to take it away. I reminded him that we don't take other people's stuff, even if we don't like what they write on it. Interesting times.

  6. Ramana's 40 Verses on Reality

  7. Mak_Tin_Si

    What Michael said.
  8. Resolutions

I'll get a new used car and stop driving my '84 Honda that barely passed emissions. I'll get a job that I love and that makes my heart sing (or at least is a better fit for me). I'll keep my house clean, my papers filed, my garden tended, my compost going, my budget balanced. I'll finally fix my posture. I'll sleep more, eat better, decrease stress, lift, train and breath. I'll write as much as I possibly can. I'll try to get better at things I suck at...be it geometry or strategy games or putting things together or develop a sense of direction.
  9. tooth regeneration

Yeah they say to only use the tooth brightener once a week. I'll look into Uncle Harry's stuff!
  10. tooth regeneration

Scotty, what flavor did you get? Oh as far as the whitener, I tried it and it didn't do anything for me... So tell us how it goes! I have their little booklet somewhere too called "a prescription for tea" or something, I'll try to find it and let you know what it says.
  11. I am a pill popper

Just wanted to hear what five bajillion supplements other people are taking. I went to my herbalist to get a full workup to find out what's wrong with me and he says I am a touch anemic and very deficient with low blood pressure. He recommended more meat (with at least two meals a day), and the following supplements, which make me feel like a pill popper. I am taking: beta carotene folic acid cod liver oil floradix iron and herbs multivitamin (MultiGuard) This in addition to my herbal tincture, and Chinese formulas. EEK!
  12. I am a pill popper

It does have glycerin, but it is SO YUMMY. I was hoping the positive attributes of the CLO would override the negative aspects of the additives. lol
  13. I am a pill popper

I take Barlean's Omega Swirl because it is yummy CLO. Even the cinnamon flavored I think has a nasty aftertaste and it doesn't matter how good it is for me if I casn't eat it. But I know I should be supplementing my Barlean's CLO with fish oil too to get my 3-5 mg combined epa/dha but I can't find any with taste I can stand and I hear the pills are rancid. for a while I was using the Green Pasture's pills because they are fermented. But it is hard to estimate how much epa/dha is in each. I thought you said liquid B's had nasty additives and MSG?
  14. good "energy" toys ~$50

My orgone pyramids are cool looking and were cheap. Not sure if effective but I like to think so. I got them from the etheric warriors guy.
  15. Ramana's 40 Verses on Reality

From the perspective of neuroscience, your temporal lobes (iirc--the thinking part of your brain) can shut off more emotional experiences... this can be a good thing when making rational decisions or a bad thing because it can stop one from having mystical/spiritual experiences.
  16. I am a pill popper

I just do goji or emergen-C for the vit C as needed... I take B vitamins in pill form but only if I'm really stressed out... My supplements are a good multi and fish oil/cod liver oil...

  18. Ramana's 40 Verses on Reality

xuesheng, really enjoyed the book! it seems like it is a bit more grounded in reality as i know it than ramana is though, more along the lines of "i am indelibly connected to everything" than "there is no i" though. hmmm... On that note, though, here's verse 30: Is this like Martin Buber's I-thou?
  19. Horrible Posture

I have had a LOT of luck with these guys...as in, immediate benefit from exercises given to me... I tried a lot of things (chiropractors, massage, acupuncture, etc.) but this really is working wonders for me, check it out: http://posturalrestoration.com/about/ I bought it and it looks great! I just saw a massage therapist who does Postural Restoration Institute stuff and have to show it to him to see which we could work in to what he's having me do. He is AMAZING. As in, like, immediate benefit. He pinpointed my lordosis to be related to my anterior neck and did some deep tissue massage, but he said it was also tied to my ribcage. So he had me do these crazy exercises, one where I had to hold one hand over my head with my knees against the wall and a ball between my knees, and in the other hand I held a balloon. We are working on me being able to use my diaphragm better, so I had to breath through the balloon and then breath through my nose and use the diaphragm to stop the air from leaking out. it was really hard but I have gotten it to work. The stretches that he gave me -- a couple sternal positional stretches--have immediate benefit. It is different than anything I've tried before. I am pretty much sold... and I've tried everything with very little effect... well, not everything just acupuncture, massage, shiatsu, chiropracty and other exercises... this stuff rocks! http://posturalrestoration.com/

  23. So I have acupuncture scheduled for tomorrow, and tonight found out that this purple belt I met about a year ago when I was first visiting my BJJ school (really great teacher) is coming in from out of town...tomorrow. My acu place has a 24 hour cancellation policy, so I could probably just pay the fee and reschedule, but I was just wondering, how come you're not supposed to work out hard after acupuncture? What happens? Does it totally negate the treatment, or just make it mildly less effective? I've looked online and it appears that a variety of places say different things. Some say exercise isn't contraindicated, some say not to do any heavy exercise for 24 hours after a treatment, and some simply say to avoid it 2 hours before and after a treatment. My appointment is at 4 and will likely end at 5 or 5:30, and my class is at 6...but we mostly drill for the first hour or longer and probably won't get to the strenuous part until 7 anyway... so am leaning towards trying to get both in. Also I can always set out the live roll (but once I get there I know I won't want to...) Anyway, just hoping for words of wisdom and knowledge from a bunch o' bums.
  24. heavy exercise after acupuncture

LOL. I know acupuncture and alcohol don't mix well--not from my own experience but from that of others. They say it just feels really strange and off. Of course I think it'd probably depend on your tolerance level as a beer with dinner for some people is kind of like drinking water... not me of course, as I am a lightweight! I have never heard the no sex rule... but I mostly only see my boyfriend on non-acupuncture days so don't have to worry about it. lol My acupuncture session was super intense, with my acupuncturist hitting some points on my fingers and toes... He made me cough when he put in the needles to confuse my nervous system! It didn't hurt. He said my pulse was rapid and slippery and I forget what four things he said he was treating but spleen and pericardium were in there...or was it stomach and pericardium? Anyway I only had finger, toe and forehead points and it was super intense and was great. I was all blissed out and I was kind of dragging my feet and got to class late, and we started by practicing some drills... I felt like I was physically able to go pretty hard but mentally I needed to be reminded. I worked with some of the younger boys too which was a bit of a break for me because they weigh less than me and have limited technique, and it's nice to be able to help others improve their game. Also the guys I rolled with were super cool today. I am sore but I feel good, and still blissed out. I am guessing the reason he told me I was okay to work out today is because he was doing such a deep treatment. Next time I go in though I'm going to avoid training afterwards.
  25. heavy exercise after acupuncture

I asked my acupuncturist about it again, and he said it really depends on what you are being treated for. Then he told me to go work out. But I'm so zenned out right now I don't know if I want to. I think I can probably go train in a mindful way instead of going insane, though. Mostly I just want to see an old friend.
