Longer version of the first introduction video-

No it was not IMA, meaning Internal Martial Arts, and IMA does not do no touch stuff.
Â
All we can really go by is the video label, which says it is just "Kiai". That is a japanese term, not a chinese one.
-
Nope....it's December 2012

-
lol,ok I didnt know. But that was the only ima artist I found who was willing to fight.Â
Those were not "ima artists". Those were practitioners of.... I dont even know what. Either some sort of Japanese kiai practice like its labelled as, or perhaps just people with cult followings who made things up.
Â
IMA generally refers to the chinese fighting arts of Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, and Baguazhang.
-
I mean no offense, and no ill will.
Â
My experience is that when an alleged internal martial artist talks about empty force, lama thunderbolts, Ki blasts, and dim mak, it is just someone who never got the real fighting skills, meaning striking, grappling, schuai chiao, qinna, etc. but they want to act like they are knowledgable or are teachers, so they obscure and confuse people about what internal martial arts are and how they are applied.
Â
A lot of real internal martial artists have a big problem with people who promote empty force and dim mak, and have been willing to step up and show that empty force is not effective fighting, or even real.
-
Im reacting emotionally?
Â
I never thought of Jiu Jitsu as being sacred....
Â
I am simply going to state my points a simply as I can......
Â
1. A good wrestler/grappler will beat a good boxer/stirker
Â
2. Grappling has a lot of value in the ring or the street
Â
3. Real fighting, and real internal martial arts for that matter, have nothing to do with dim mak, empty force, and all those types of tricks
Â
4. No fighter, or martial art technique, is invincible
-
Thanks for that site. I watch UFC sometimes, but I dont usually like it quite enough to pay 49.99 to watch it haha.
-
That is definitely true.
Â
I dont mind a little glorification, lol
Â
But I do like to know about the art I practice. If I dont get to see a real lineage chart, I at least like to have a general idea of the history of the art. It can help put the art into context for me, help me understand how it developed, help me understand what its really about, and make me more interested.

Yeah at 03:10 First video Breath of Fire!Â
My wife recognized this immediately we saw the film about 18 months ago... so inspiring
Thanks for the jump start!

Â
Definitely Yoga that Rickson is doing. Yet it's so cool because it really is mixed in with Jiu Jitsu movements, especially on the beach.
Â
It's Yoga and Jiu Jitsu combined, which I find really cool.

It is important to remember that BJJ and MMA are designed for sport matches.Â
MMA perhaps, BJJ no. BJJ contains both sport and self defense training. In BJJ self defense, weapons and multiple attackers are considered and trained for.
Â
Â
Â
On the street, in an alley with lots of broken glass, the last thing you want to do is roll around on the ground.Â
Where the fight goes may not always be your choice. Especially if fighting someone strong, skilled, or multiple people. If you are on the ground, Jiu Jitsu can only help you, in the street or the ring. Also, grappling has value standing up, takedowns, throws, and clinching/stand up grappling.
Â
The fact also remains, even chinese internal martial arts such as Tai chi and Bagua incorporate a lot of grappling and Schuai Chiao. Why would they do this is they could just win fights with "dim mak" and things like that?
Â
Â
But more often than not, you are fighting multiple opponents who may be armed.Â
The more serious the challenge, the more broad of a skillset you need. There are no techniques that are 100% effective all the time against everyone.
-
-
even some judo takedowns in order to become a more efficient formula.Â
Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are related arts, so make no mistake BJJ has many takedowns and throws, it just doesnt emphasize them to the same degree as Judo, and its biggest strength is once the fight gets to the ground. Judo tries to finish the fight with a throw sometimes, BJJ doesnt try to do that as much and assumes that most of the time you can get the fight to the ground, even if you are the one who is thrown, and it wont necessarily be over.

Not much needs to be said about the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the Gracie familiy. Obviously their version of Jiu Jitsu has proven to be one of the most effective methods of fighting on the ground. It has also maintained it's relevancy into modern times while many martial arts have not maintained the importance or level they once did. Even still BJJ is at the heart and soul of MMA competition. Many people think of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as violent and brutal, and while of course it can be, the truth is it is very technical. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can also enable a smaller person to defeat a larger person.

All I wrote was that we get to see Rickson Gracie's personal Yoga practice. I made no claims about Gracie Jiu jitsu or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu's curriculum. However, we can see that Rickson does indeed incorporate his Jiu Jitsu and Yoga together.
Â
Sure, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is clearly grappling and not much of a striking art. But it is definitely not common for a high level Jiu Jitsu fighter to be knocked out. The only time a BJJ fighter is ever knocked out is at a high level of competition, against a fighter who is an excellent striker, and who knows grappling, wrestling, or preferably Jiu Jitsu themselves as well.
Â
A Jiu Jitsu fighter will beat a striker who doesnt know grappling every time.

I am interested in Yoga, but I dont know a whole lot about it. You hear all the time that Yoga is such an ancient art, and about how old it is. So I found it quite surprising how little information there is available out there about the history, or lineages, of most of the more well known systems.
Â
I guess Im just used to Qigong, where they will say, our lineage is handed down through 10 generations, or 20 generations, or whatever it may be, and our system is X many of years old in its current form, and has roots going back even before it was systemized etc....

-
One of my qigong teachers also started out with a Kundalini Yoga practice in the 70's but he moved on after 5 or 6 years because he felt too much breath of fire was burning up his kidney essence, and the practice of sending energy up the spine and out the crown chakra was not as powerful as doing the microcosmic orbit. I"m investigating those ideas my self. Many of the senior practitioners are Sikh, and that lends itself to a more spiritual approach than other systems of yoga.Â
That is a really good insight and perspective. That is also something like my impression of Kundalini. It seems very powerful, but perhaps it can be too powerful. Something that should be practiced in moderation and balanced with softer practices and meditation.
Â
The Kidneys are your base, they are your life. They are probabaly the most important thing in the world. Kidneys are everything. This is why Chi Kung is so good.
-
Kundalini Yoga is said to be a very powerful and spiritual form of Yoga. Many people also believe it is the oldest system of Yoga which all other systems evolved from or come from.

Kundalini Yoga comes to the west-
http://www.kundaliniyoga.org/shakti.html
Yogi Bhajan mastered Kundalini Yoga in India when he was 16 1/2 years old. In addition to his yogic practices (he's also a master of Hatha Yoga), he finished college, served in the Indian military, married, fathered three children, and was working as a Customs officer at Palim International Airport when he received an invitation to go to Canada and teach Yoga at the University of Toronto.Â
One of the reasons he accepted the offer was that he had seen too many Americans and Europeans seekers arriving in India, being exploited - spending a lot of money, and leaving without having learned very much, if anything. He vowed to teach honestly, and share the wisdom and the technology that he had gained. He was determined to empower people through Kundalini Yoga and show them they didn't have to become anybody's disciple to progress on the spiritual path.
Â
He not only lost his luggage en route to Canada, but when he landed in Toronto, he discovered that the professor from the University who had hired him had just died. So he had no job, only $35, and the clothes on his back. This was September of 1968.
Â
In December, he received another invitation, this time a personal one from a man he had known in India, to spend a weekend visiting in Los Angeles.
Â
He never went back. Although "the Yogi," as we called him then, had only intended to stay in LA for one weekend, when he met the young people who belonged to the generation of the '60's, those souls whose destiny it was, at this time of the dawning of the Aquarian Age, to usher in the new era. he knew he must stay here and teach them.

Jois stated that Krishnamacharya taught him Ashtanga yoga based on some ancient writings which were on palm leaves.Â
That is quite interesting. Does this mean that Ashtanga yoga is a revived art, and would that make Krishnamacharya the modern founder?
Â
How far back does this system go?
-
Thank you for that, you are helpful and kind.

Â
It's not legitimate martial arts. It's students who want to worship their master, or are pressured by the social dynamics to act things out and go along with it. Suggestion, hypnosis, placebo, whatever else you want to call it.
Â
You just can't fight someone without touching them.
