No need of any research papers. It's one of those skills that can be developed through many years of internal cultivation.
One interesting fact:
We accumulate inside of us, etched in our consciousness all the lifetimes we have lived as our many faces. View it as TREE RINGS.
I have developed an exercise that lets you peek inside others people's lifetimes while the other person is able to view yours. I tested it with myself and three other people in real life and it works. One of them did it with his partner and the guy came back to me and agreed that the method works.
The power of observation.

1. What do you mean by Wood Tiger?
2. Same as the way the internal organs vibrate which can be detected by pulse diagnosis in any TCM course. This stuff is very complicated and how did ancient Taoists figure it out?
POWER OF OBSERVATION. It all comes to that.
The whole of Taoism is based in very accurate scientific principles which all stem from the universal law of Yin & Yang. The cascading effect:
Spirit gives rise to form:
Wuji ---> Taiji ---> Liang yi (Yin & Yang split like cell division: male and female, light & dark) and via the Five Forces/Spirits physical reality is created in all directions.) ---> Si Xiang ---> Ba Gua (the manifested totality).
Yes very observant and highly analytical and perceptive ancient Taoists. They had nothing to do other than cultivate and observe the action of all the subtle laws within themselves and also by observing the changes in the natural environment which are a reflection of what is taking place inside of us.
Change is a constant.

I'm not an intellectual. I don't read Taoist, Buddhist or books based on similar methodologies.
Ba Gua circle walking, walking meditation, grounding work and a bit of seated meditation plus hiking in nature. A life of a hermit and what I know is a result of how I live.
You can't buy or read about wisdom.
You either get it or you don't. End of story.
And here ends my contribution on this thread. I don't get involved in arguments anymore, it bocks the Qi.

Alone is good but you need a teacher who'll pass on to you a serious energetic method of self-transformation and purification/opening/release.
Chinese Internal Martial Arts serve this purpose really well.

You are already getting up from the wrong side of the bed.
There is no goal, only an understanding of what you really are and being aware of the changing nature of reality due to the subtle influence of universal laws.
I'd start the path by looking at:
Let's build a SOLID and STRONG FOUNDATION in my practice aka GROUNDING.

Another aspect that I try to highlight is the CONSISTENCY of Buddha DhammaI can see how consistently they have missed THE LAW OF THE YIN & THE YANG for the past 2,500 years. For that very reason, it's easy to dismiss Buddhism. From my own personal perspective based on my own practice, I have no interest in their methodology.

Three in fact:Scientific. Yin is cold to touch (ice) and likewise Yang is hot (fire).
Wood expands and Metal contracts (Five Forces/Spirits science).
Qi travels methodically and continuously throughout the FIVE ENERGY NETWORKS. 365/24/7
Every year Qi adopts a different phase; eg. 2024 is Year of the Wood Dragon:
Earth + Wood
Spleen-Stomach + Liver & Gallbladder are the dominant forces in 2024.
I can carry on with endless scientific laws, which are the underlying mechanism upon how reality works.

They come close hence why I disregard Buddhism completely (amongst a myriad of other reasons). It's not what the Buddha taught (so not valid).
From one Buddhist monastery here in Australia (online manifesto):
It aims to transcend today's bewildering confusion of Buddhist gurus, dogmas and techniques by returning to the original teachings of the Buddha as found in the early parts of the Pali canon, and in the living practice of the great meditation masters in the Forest Tradition.
They sound pretty much fundamentalist, Taliban-like and dogmatic.
NO, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Taoism (and here's where many people still don't get it), is not a RELIGION; it's actually the world's oldest SCIENCE and a very accurate one to say the least.
And to respond to the OP:
Religions have nothing to offer, they are the opium of the people.
NO RELIGION, just self-realisation and understanding the laws of reality. It's all that it matters.

I wonder if the following cat sometimes comes across the snow leopard in any of those remote mountains of Central Asia. Do they become instant friends?
Pallas cat. Not suitable as pets, it's a wild animal!-

Big mountains are very powerful.
Just recently:
Five Russian climbers die on Nepal’s Dhaulagiri mountain
Welcome.

In Australia, where I live. Not as many teachers as in the most popular USA but you can find quality instruction if you dig deep.
Seated meditation alone is awful especially in our modern, mental, academic, technological and thinking too much world. Keep it to a minimum.
Walking meditation. Try this video:

Hello and welcome.
My advice:
1. No books
2. Find a martial artist teacher not a bookworm teacher. The following is a place where you can find one or alternatively try to look around in your local area. There must be a park where IMA classes are taught.

There are also charlatans disguised as teachers of these arts so you need to weed them out until you find a legit one. So when the principle of "when the student is ready, the teacher will show up" is quite accurate.
Good luck.

Nice paintings guys, except for using the subject of pig in those surroundings. The atmosphere has been captured with exquisite balance even the tones are in the darker side.
About the Da Vinci painting. Very controversial indeed. The owners will always claim authenticity largely based on the amount of money shelled out in its acquisition.
The magical realism of Andrea Kowch. So she is a contemporary artist. Never heard of her before. I can see she was born in 1986.

Hello,
Unfortunately you can't learn BGZ online correctly let alone deeply as there is a lot of stuff going on. All the small details and levels of refinement only come from direct instruction.
For example:
1. First video: basic stepping in a linear form. This is only to show the mechanics of how to move forward but in circle walking the inner step moves straight whereas the outer step moves in a curve motion. This video is not showing that in detail despite what the title says.
The next step is changing direction in the circle: hook (kou bu) & swing (bai bu) steps must be performed while keeping the rest of the principles in place.
2. Second video is not for beginners as the Palm is usually taught last in the 8 Mother Palms set in some schools of BGZ, or first as part of the Old 8 Palms (post-heaven) set in other schools of BGZ.
You clearly see the teacher being fully engaged with the student makes sure he starts walking properly without making obvious mistakes.
Let me ask you: do you think you'll be capable of learning this ONLINE?
First of all you need to learn how to walk in a complete different way you have been doing your entire life. It'll be extremely challenging in the beginning without a doubt.
Quite possibly this person learnt from a video. -
I thought it was an Internet fake, but it's a real road sign:

The flow naturally in all of us all the time. The trick is to remove all the blockages that prevent us from feeling that flow. Remember that flow also follows principles: generating, reverse generating, overacting, destructive/conflictive and reverse destructive cycles; mother-child relationship and your own Ba Zi chart to find out your strengths & weaknesses plus favourable and unfavourable directions (this last bit is mandatory) or else you'll live a miserable life.
Free Ba Zi chart:

Make sure you find out the hour of your birth. In addition to that:
https://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/Love/CFAPersonality.htm
Don't skip the Time Zone (location you were born).
Practices that focus on the Five Forces:
1. Ba Gua Zhang
2 Xingyi QuanLove this old kung fu training. No shirts, and lots of drills and hard work. Led by the teacher Zhang Jun Feng. Taipei early 70s.

Nothing legit has turned up in our searches, except for one.
There may be teachers and individuals who have attainments via the practices you mention but I am not aware of them.
1. Where did you guys traveled to?
He Jinghan in Taipei Taiwan is legit but expect BRUTAL work under his guidance. Not for weak, lazy or casual practitioners
2. My teacher is legit too. Geoff Sweeting (Brisbane, Australia). His Xingyi teacher and uncle (Roy Jensen) is legit too. Based in Margaret River, WA Australia.
His Baguazhang teacher, Wang Tong, based in Beijing is also legit.
3. I'm legit too if I decide to teach
4. The Vipassana centre (like many in Thailand and Burma) I went to in Chom Tong near Chiang Mai, Thailand, is legit too. You'll be meditating 3-4 weeks non-stop. Feel free to even meditate longer than that in those monasteries. The sky is the limit.
Ultimately is you that needs to accept CHANGE and COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION OF YOURSELF.
You'll end up waking alone once you need to let go of your teacher in the end.
......................Why aren't you learning from that one you found legit in your searches?

10 hours ago, kakapo said:As I have gotten older I have learned that almost 100 percent of all, books, videos, teachers, and systems do not actually do anything at all.
You either:1. Aren't ready
2. Haven't met a real life teacher (a must when one first starts walking this path).
Proven systems by many practitioners:
1. Vipassana
2. Chinese Internal Martial Arts, namely Baguazhang & Xingyiquan
The Internet is not and will never be a qualified teacher that delivers results. It only serves its purpose of being a medium of information. Same applies to books and audiovisual material.
