  1. Heaven = Yang, head, sky, higher states of consciousness

    Man = Yin & Yang

Earth = Yin, feet, ground, jing, nourishment

Man embodies both polarities: Heaven & Earth. He is also placed in the middle of the two (internal organs, yin & yang and change (si xiang/the four aspects of yin & yang & 5 forces).

Totally unrelated to Hindu & Buddhist cosmology.

when you visualise your liver as green

That's the natural manifestation of the Wood Force (green. it shows movement that goes upwards towards the Fire Force/it nourishes it, but also expands outwards).

You, I & Everyone--->Liang Yi/duality (Yin & Yang) ---> Si Xiang/4 changes (greater Yang, lesser Yang, greater Yin & lesser Yin) & Five Forces (Water, Wood, Fire, Earth & Metal) which give birth to all things whether animated or not. Si Xiang ----> Ba Gua (4x2 = eight trigrams & 8x8 = 64 hexagrams).

This model explains the entire totality product of THE MIND (the most important force, it is the SPIRIT itself which gives birth to LIFE & MATTER). Qi is the vehicle that regulates all existence; it's an extension of SPIRIT.

AMEN. Taoism is the science of reality and the oldest one and also most accurate. Nothing is left unexplained. :)

BUT in the realm of spirit none of these rules apply since spirit is unbound, eternal & infinite. It goes well past metaphysical SCIENCE & RELIGION.

Edit/note: karma are just blockages between spirit & matter.

Hard work not "ethereal words" written or spoken.

Grounding like you have never experienced before because our society is very UNGROUNDED. I started like that too, decades of study and living disconnected from the internal organs like most humans.

    This is a good start:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ma_Gui_(martial_artist)

    Read his biography.

"...rigorous approach to training with a heavy emphasis on developing extraordinary lower leg strength."

    AMEN!!

For the rest of your life or else you risk becoming ungrounded and engaged in enlightenment and chakras talk.

Note: you are already ENLIGHTENED; let's find out HOW.

  4. Full moon effect will last three days after it peaks (100%, 98%, etc. depending on the month).

Kidney Yin & Yang greatly improve their flow due to the moon being paired with Water force, so while being at its full force the action on Yin & Yang will rise faster and with more intensity stimulating more the action of Wood/liver/yin & Fire/heart/yang. It's a vertical action rising from below to above (head) where our connection to Heaven/divinity resides. You'll become more in tune with the 'hidden reality' (your inner self) during this period.

This is the science behind the full moon and it's effect on energetics.

  5. This whole path is not about an specific religion; intrinsically they are all valid, but Taoism differs from the rest as it is closely related to the action of the two major forces that give rise to our entire reality and which lie deep inside all of us: Yin & Yang.

A good method taught by a good teacher who has practised in earnest will help you understand the whole thing proven you have put the effort and concentration levels required which will lead you to self-realisation.

    No books can replace wisdom.

Its also a must practicing in the natural environment; it's immensely beneficial since the Tao follows what is natural: fresh air, good Qi, five elements in equal proportion, mind becomes relaxed as a result and your practice will greatly improve.

I can't see how a book can provide all of the above.

How do you know if the teacher has skill when starting out? Thats the paradox one of my old teachers would laugh about. New students (typically) simply don't know enough to discern either way. Such knowledge is sometimes learned the hard way.

The key points are regardless of Ba Gua styles, lineages and teachers:

    1. Circle walking

    2. Correct body alignment

    3. Correct execution of kou bu (hook step, inwards) and bai bu (swing step, outwards) stepping. Whether is mud stepping or crane is irrelevant, even though the first is definitively more Yin than the latter

    4. Integrated movement: Man placed between Heaven & Earth (Taoist trinity and one of the foundations of philosophy and medicine, of which this art is renowned for)

The test are accessories, some people focus on combat, others on form while others on healing and fitness. Yet there is another category: the ones that have connected with the original mind, the spirit, the real US. This group is a minority and it doesn't belong to any of the above categories; it just happens when you practice the art DEEPLY.

What is practising Ba Gua deeply?

    When emphasis is placed upon:

    1. Doing foundation work. Refer to He Jing Han's teachings (youtube channel)

    2. Focusing on the Eight Mother Palms

    3. Focusing on a single Palm for extended periods of time while walking many circles before changing direction; eg. 100 circles clockwise & 100 circles anti-clockwise

    4. Integrating seated meditation in practice

    5. Celibacy/regulating jing emission. Difficult when being involved in a relationship

    6. Diet

7, Lifestyle. Living in busy society vs living like a hermit or a monk; that is a fully commitment to the path of integrating Body & Mind

  7. I see the actor Daniel Craig in the background of this video:

    https://youtu.be/83aIPql7M_U

Maybe he is the mysterious Kuan Wang teacher.

Other than that He Jinbao from the Xie Peiqi lineage (Yin style Ba Gua) is depicted in the video.

Obviously there are several styles of this art and ways of stepping. I only provided two solid examples. good teachers are out there but it is hard to discern for a beginner; usually the fancier the method the less deep the Ba Gua passed on to you it will be.

Those videos are awful, they only reveal poor skill.

There are phoney teachers out there like in anything else in life so the OP must take it into account, and this is a very good example.

  9. When you attend your first class if your prospective teacher doesn't walk the circle like these two Ba Gua man, walk away and find someone else:

    https://youtu.be/KxMWIW1W8rI

    My teacher, a Water Ox.

    https://youtu.be/uWjyBSbupn8

I like him, holding only one palm for many circles. Simple yet effective.

This will deeply transform you into a new human being after several years of practice proving you put dedication  and full effort into it.

  10. Ask for a better teacher on this forum:

    https://rumsoakedfist.org/viewforum.php?f=3&sid=8a74fabedfacf0c1812fa81545f615b5

or else do a forum search there for any instructors in Texas.

That man hasn't gone deep enough on this internal style.

FYI, circle walking and holding the eight mother palms is what you'll ever need + Foundation work (refer to He Jing Han's YouTube channel).

    Good luck!

I think shamanism exist from the yellow emperor

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_shamanism

    From the link:

"In China today, shamanism has a strong negative stigma and has lost much of the respect it had during ancient times.  Spirit mediums are viewed as scammers or people with mental health problems, and are rarely portrayed otherwise by the Chinese media. Along with the focus on science, modern medicine, and material culture in China (which created serious doubt in spiritual practices), shamanism is viewed as an opposition to the modern focus of science and medicine in the pursuit of modernizing China. Modern shamanism is considered as an obstacle to China’s overall modernity."

Pretty much the antagonising view of "awaken," who looks down and rejects shamanism.

    Some shamanic Qigong practices:

    -Five Animal Play

    -Big Dipper Qigong

-Yubu (steps of Yu) by the Yellow Emperor

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yubu

Some Taoist medical practices rooted in shamanism:

    -Picking Herbs

    -Preparing Elixirs

    -Using talismans

Something is messing up your Middle and Lower Jiaos. This is a long standing and ongoing issue which is going to be hard to heal unless you undergo a profound change in your life and the way and food you eat.

Address these two and you'll heal yourself especially if you do an IMA taught by a competent teacher. Head over the Rum Soaked Fist forum and see if there is one near your area. Also this teacher who holds Chinese Medicine practise is very good. Fully focused on healing rather than combat:

    http://www.internalintent.com/global

He happens to be my teacher's uncle who learned Xingyi Quan from him while living in Perth, Australia. Very competent and serious teacher.

    Good luck!

  14. Signs of attainment:

    1. Some are undeniable truths; eg.

-Mind creates reality. This world you live in right now is entirely a projection of your own soul.

-The subtle of the Yin & Yang forces which lie within all of us. Also the dynamics of the two in the form of the Five Changes which help to shape reality.

-We live many lives and we retain knowledge of all of them buried under the layer of the thinking mind (Wood Force).

-We are eternal endless beings and all interrelated yet at different evolutionary levels.

    2. Stuff that might be or might be not true (in my opinion they are irrelevant) and here is where most spiritual powers come into play. The more you advance on this path the less you care and pay attention to them.

Wisdom, self-realisation is what matters the most. You can read 100 books on the subject but until you don't realise the truths within yourself, you'll reincarnate/continue the vital cycle here or in another form until you do.

Note: Buddhism is only a "human" understanding of a small aspect of reality geared towards the ultimate salvation but there is a lot more than that as we all know taking into account the minute and precise study over millennia of how reality really operates according to the ancient Chinese. So, Buddhism is not a perfect system especially if the body is blocked and unable to connect with the Mind. No Yin & Yang, not acknowledgment of the nature of constant change we are all subjected to? I wouldn't take a system like that too seriously especially TODAY.

  15. Chinese mythological figure. Interesting the zodiac part (wikipedia) but it goes deeper than that and certainly there are no cats in sight (section edited by a Vietnamese national because they use the animal "cat" rather than "rabbit" in their zodiac system which is adopted from the Chinese, but other than the cat the rest of the animals are the same).

In any case the Chinese Zodiac is rooted in Shamanism and then passed on to Taoism; so it is indeed a very ancient knowledge.

The animal you manifest in this lifetime is shown in your personality and quite often in the shape of your face. We are born into the Yin (Earth) using the Yang force (Heaven) from the void (eternity, realm of the spirit).

  16. And let me add to the end of my advice;

Teachers who focus solely only on form.

Well if you practice well, then it doesn't matter as you will deepen your practice on your own, it will happen NATURALLY.

This is in essence what makes an ideal IMA teacher (many times I provided this info in the past):

"Ma Gui advocated a rigorous approach to training with a heavy emphasis on developing extraordinary lower leg strength."

The rest of the article is on the wikipedia (Ma Gui martial artist).

It took me several years of figuring out why this is so important especially today for people with a professional background, who spent most of their lives studying and sitting on chairs.

BECAUSE WE HAVE BECOME SO UNGROUNDED that we lost touch with the EARTH ELEMENT. Constantly thinking, rising WOOD ENERGY UP and UP and UP again. A never ending cycle of up which must be corrected. So now is a constant battle of GOING DOWN, DOWN and DOWN AGAIN.

Forget about dantian stuff. More neo-Taoist hoopla that takes you nowhere.

    The real work is:

    -Grounding

-Balancing, harmonising the Yin & Yang

    -Opening meridian networks

    -Loosening joints

    -Dissolving Qi blockages

    -Connecting to the internal organs

This enough material to work on for a couple of decades if you do well and are fully focused on this path. More time is required. if blockages lie deeper.

Bring me a cult any day! You'll actually ward them off. Cults only attract certain personalities and for that only you can prevent from falling prey to them. So that's probably a lesson one you'll endure and learn from in your soul journey.

    .Spiritual teachings and social dynamics are two VERY different things. Proficiency in the former does not mean proficiency in the latter;

My personal experience with 'spiritual teachings:'

    1. Stay away from them

    2. Stay away from religion

    3. Stay "more" away from organised religion

    So what to do?

I have mentioned this so many times but here it goes again.

Learn and become proficient at one of the main Chinese Internal Martial Arts, namely Xingyi and Ba Gua. If you prefer something less 'aggressive' due to your Yin nature then Tai Chu will be your best bet but this art doesn't dissolve deep blockages and connect to the other internal organs like the other two.

The rest of the work is seated meditation work which will be taken care of by your main IMA practice. Focus on breathing and let go. There isn't much mystery to it, the rest is ego-driven fluff.

Find a good IMA teacher. This is a tricky part too. Look for people more interested in the combat than the 'fairies' stuff.

  18. Add the Mantak Chia stuff to my stay way list too! Neo-Taoist hocus pocus. Bullshit coated in fancy words which will easily impress beginners,

Any legit system will encourage practitioners to:

-Practice in the natural environment as often as you can. Forests, parks, mountains, near the ocean, lakes, natural creek flows, etc.

-Moving as moving moves the blood, stagnant Qi, and encourages good health and fitness.

-You need the Yang to open blockages and remove stagnation so put more effort in the warmest times of the year (spring & summer).

  19. Good and reliable systems that work proven you are putting real and dedicated effort into it for at least a decade of continuous practice to see long lasting and noticeable results:

    1. Internal Martial Arts, particularly Xingyi Quan & Ba Gua Quan

    2. Vipassana meditation structured in a walking + seated practice done in equal amounts. Works best in a retreat environment. An Ajhan (ordained monk qualified to teach by the Sangha) or a lay teacher with s minimum of 20 years of practice only qualify as teachers here due to Vipassana meditation being highly sophisticated.

    Stay away from:

    1. Methods that pursue/guarantee /promise enlightenment

    2. Methods that focus on bogus practices like Microcosmic Orbit

    3.Methods that encourage Kundalini

    4. Methods that deal with supernatural entities

    5. Methods in which the teacher acts like a guru. There is a cult lurking underneath. Beware of this!

    6. Methods that promote online learning and from books and videos. It's purely done for marketing and financial gain

    7. Methods that talk about siddhis (spiritual powers) as a necessary aspect of practice

Apart from delving deep into mundane activities, I recognize my energetic system is a little messed up

As the old Chinese saying goes:

"If you want to heal yourself, pursue 'enlightenment' practice martial arts, but if you want to fight people take up yoga and meditation."

Whether is Chinese or not irrelevant, you get the point.

Would you mind sharing something about how things like Horse stance does this healing you speak of?

This stuff can only be clearly understood if you take up Internal Martial Arts and particularly these two:

    1. Xingyi Quan

    2. Ba Gua Quan

Its about opening the kua (pelvic area) and all the meridians that cross that area particularly Liver & Gallbladder.

Also working on the Yin Pole (legs/feet) which support the entire energetic system (related to the Earth Force) we remain balance and grounded avoiding excessive Qi accumulation on the head and shoulders while preventing Liver Yang rising, Also damp (state of imbalance) and heat need to be cleared from the internal organs and meridians.

You cannot attain a state of balance if the Yang goes out of control (typical symptoms are kundalini syndrome, delusions, excessive focus on spiritual talk and advancement, etc.) while the Yin remains weak. Pair this with the mental job associated with study or professional work and you have a recipe for disaster.

  22. The Five Forces or dynamics of Yin & Yang are the building blocks of existence!

For much as you try to be aware of how badly messed up your internal organs (because you ultimately won't know until you find a system that really cleanses you internally ---> see below) you won't be going too far/deep enough, for sure.

Healing, unblocking, releasing, opening joints and meridians, restructuring forces that were flowing in the wrong direction due to being brought up and living in the unawakened society, balancing & restoring vitality, are the factors that really matter.

Ultimately you'll reconnect with the mind (spirit, the eternal you).

Yes awareness & mindfulness are too subjective and not enough to deliver the goods.
