One other thing. I'm out of work since April this year. When I can get work again (which I'm trying to get out in South Orange County), I'll be able to get the DVDs which should be much clearer than these old VHS tapes. Best, Bill

Some question regarding the Flying Phoenix exercises. First, thank you Terry for the comments about mixing SKL's TTP system with Flying Phoenix. I was doing the Short 31 and was beginning the FP Exercises when I read that message. I'll stop the Short 31 and practice the FP exercises for qigong alone. I will say I remain to practice my Bagua exercises (circle walking and standing exercises) as the Internal Kung fu aspect of my training. As I mentioned to you a while back I have the first two in the series on old VHS tapes. I never really watched them until now being distracted with other things. Having started them, I've gotten through the first four exercises and noticed some discrepancies between what is verbally said and the percentage label displaying the percentages of that exercise. Specifically, Bending the Bows: The label says: 90%, 70%, 50%, 30%, 20% Terry says: 90%, 70%, 50%, 40%, 30% Monk Holds Peach: The label says: 90%, 50%, 40%, 20%, 10% Terry says: 90%, 50%, 40%, 30%, 10% Perhaps my older VHS versions which have these discrepancies ? Can you correct these for me? Other questions. 1. Bending the Bows. How many repetitions are or can be done in this exercise (the two moving combinations)? 2. You mentioned "curl the tongue" in Monk Holds Peach.. As you know this has a different meaning in SKL's system so were you meaning to say, Touch the tongue to the roof of the mouth? 3. When I practice either Short 31 (Circling Palms) or the FP system my body starts to move, spiraling gyrations. Is it good to force the body not to move or allow it to move when practicing? Thanks much, Bill

I don't get your point. You're saying that Qigong should only be practiced in conjunction with Martial art? Seems to me that there's a lot of Qigong out there that has nothing to do with martial art such as Medical Qigong or Qigong for health.
  6. I found a nice place for training

hmmm... Could you spell it out clearly here. I'm very bad at inferring or guessing. Thanks,
  7. I found a nice place for training

Hmmmm.. 60 rmb a day with food? Perhaps you'd like to post some pictures of the lodging. Showers? Food? Also, what kind of training are you offering? What is your lineage?

  9. What is Tai-Chi?

Tai Chi or Taiji (as it should be) is: The expression of Yin and Yang between Heaven and Earth. Wuji -> Taiji -> Wuji
  10. Here's another idea, save more money!! Pick up a second job or work at night or whatever. Go with cash and have fun. Listen, he's going to China. Why restrict yourself to a shoe string budget when visiting a place like China? Is this is first visit? Does he know what he's getting himself into? Does he speak Chinese mandarin? If not he's going to get taken advantage of, probably, one way or the other.
  11. Hey Michael, I just happened to click on your website "www.qigongamerica.com". Looks GREAT!! I was almost afraid to go to the other one
  12. What kind of masters is he visiting? Martial arts? Taoist? ??
  13. Who still does Kunlun?

I have yet to find out what Kunlun actually is so any interest previously had has waned. How is your book/dvd coming along?

  15. Qi is NOT Energy

As I've heard say in China.. Money talky, bullshitty walky.
  16. Qi is NOT Energy

1st. Your comments regarding MCO (self circulating) are inline with what I was taught as well. Just fill with qi and let it circulate naturally. 2nd. Do you want to reveal your Chi Kung style? Is it open to other people other than yourself? What is your purpose for telling us about it? What do you hope to gain here? Thanks,
  17. Qi is NOT Energy

Care to expand on your "high power chi kung"? I did attend a class with someone who did use feeling with beginners but that was more so to get them to relax than anything else (feel your pulse kinda thing). I've been around many "masters" and on a scale, his was one of the lowest in terms of feeling his energy. Not to say yours is the same, just saying. I agree with you if SB is doing MCO practices as a beginning practice.

Thanks Terry for your reply and I agree with all you wrote. You're much better at articulating your point than I am with the written word. Let me ask, I will be in the SoCal area (Orange County) with my wife for 6 days coming up (July 22nd through the 28th). Is there a place I can purchase your DVDs locally rather than purchasing them online? Thanks, Bill
  19. Qi is NOT Energy

SereneBlue, you should not practice for the goal of feeling something or your practice will never be achieved. Practice with the proper principles in mind and you'll grow from there. For example, in my wuji qigong practice I stand and keep my mind at my dantian (or wuji point). If I take my mind away from those principles and look to have feeling everything will be off and I will never be successful. In my years, sometimes I have a feeling, sometimes I don't. Don't look for the feeling or you will lose everything. Oh, and I liked your former avatar much, much better. Best,
  20. Go to China!

A little on the rich side isn't it? 3600.00 plus travel to China and Visa so at the very least add another 1000.00. So, overall about 5k for a two week trip? What would one learn in a week with Master Duan? Does he speak English? sigh, I must be totally stupid. I have no idea how to make that much extra money for a two week trip. I really must be stupid.

Thank you Terry for that reply, clairity, and attention to detail. The idea I had in my mind regarding breath retention and the TTP exercises is a little different and I believe now that perhaps I mis-translated the information I got into what I thought it should be. At any rate, it's ok. I definately appreciate the time and effort you took to reply. Thank you. I would like to comment though on the definition as I understand it when the words "hold the breath" are used. When we were kids we'd go swimming and of course, hold our breath under water. When we did that we took in as absolutely as much as we could to maximize our time under water and when doing so, a force could be felt on the lungs either from the fullness of air pushing out or the act of contracting the lungs while the air is being held. What I would like to point out what I've been shown is more of a "Pause" than a "hold". The difference being there's no feeling of force on the lungs, no contraction, and therefore "softer" in nature. Of course, as in #4 of the 5 dragons, the breath is in the dantian rather than lungs. I think a key to what I'm saying is in one of the 5 breaths from TTP (I don't have my notes in front of me so can't remember which one it is). Breath in, pause, breath out, pause. Dose this make sense? I hope so. Also, from your post above regarding ZZ. I am suprised you trained with Bow Sim Mark. A good friend of mine, David Simeone, trained with her for quite a while and had nothing but good things to say about her. Best, Bill
  22. yes, Request a Teacher is the sub-forum you want. You'll get plenty of replies there.
  23. Qi is NOT Energy

I'm seeing Qi as two main types as it concerns us and the human body. 1. The internal Qi that is generated by the body. This qi is best represented by the Chinese character Qi 氣. This character depicts how Qi is created rather than what it is. The combination of Breath and Food creates Qi used in our daily life. I perfect example of this (outside the human body) is a steam engine. Coals (our kidneys) provide flame to burn wood (consumed food). The wood burns in combination with air to produce heat over water to produce steam. Steam pushes the pistons to move the train. Of course the body is more complex but that's the jest of it. Also, use a gas engine. A gas engine can run rich (too much gas/food), or lean (too much air) and the body is the same. Our metabolism (governed by our kidneys (coals))decreases with age. We therefore "accumulate" food in our sluggish bodies. Breath sourced Qigong (an increase in breath) changes the rich running engine to more of a lean or just right engine. This in turn, if done correctly, also fires the coals and reverses the decline in metabolism. So, is it really that important to put a definition to Qi or is it more important to understand how Qi is generated and the fact that the body needs Qi? Pure, refined Qi just feels good and promotes radiant health. 2. The universal Qi that permeates everything. I have no analogy for this one. Only to say that in my case, proper body alignment and mind intent will bring this qi into the body. And, the effect seems similar to the one above but it is different in that this method will also remove dirty Qi. Ya Mu I think has a great handle on this one. This is completely consistant with my experiences as well.
  24. Pop over to the RumSoakedFist for martial artists in Europe. Should have some great sources over there. http://www.rumsoakedfist.org/
