  1. Bums I am missing

    What happened to @Marblehead....?
  2. What is a lay Daoist?

I am sorry, your wording in the OP lost me!
  3. What is a lay Daoist?

OK, then what is the real question of the OP?
  4. What is a lay Daoist?

Yes, daojiaotu(道教徒) is a general term for all disciples related to Taoism at all times. Period. 徒(tu) means disciple.
  5. What is a lay Daoist?

It seems this understand is little obfuscate. The term daojiaotu(道教徒) is not a neologism. It is inclusive for any person who practices or follows the principles of Tao(Daoism). A daoshi(道士) is a also a daojiaotu which is more devoted to the Daoism belief. All other none-Daoist(lay Daoist) who follows or practices the principles of Daoism are also considered to be a daojiaotu.
  6. Bums I am missing

ah............ No one misses the notorious @ChiDragon
  7. Purpose of QiGong

If one wants to know what is the purpose of Qi Gong, should one narrow down what is the definition of Qi Gong first? FYI Tai Chi is a very good from of Qi Gong. Someone had mentioned "Qi Gong body." It is equivalent to a "Tai Chi body," as my own definition, for a Tai Chi practitioner. Someone had a good laugh at that when the first time was heard.
  8. Purpose of QiGong

FYI The 6 minutes video demo was to show the result from the practice of Tai Chi or Qigong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBAHRqOtJDQ The continuation of the movements for a long duration of time shows the endurance of the physical strength with no fatigue . The none hesitation of the moments shows the mind is fully in control. As one can see that the body was from the result of xing and ming cultivation, the body was in complete control of the mind. This is, only, a way of showing the result from the xing and ming cultivation. Of course, there are other ways to show it as well.
  9. Purpose of QiGong

Xing and Ming cultivation is to cultivate the mind(性) and body(命). It was practiced by the ancient Chinese Taoist. It is what I am practicing now and tried to be a semi Taoist.
  10. Cultivation technique???

Yes, don't think about anything. You just do the abdominal breathing like when you were laboring but very slowly. In other words, you just concentrate on your breathing with your nose not your mouth. Indeed, your body will do the rest.
  11. Cultivation technique???

Hi Mspitzer65, I was curious about the tingling feeling on my fingers when I do Tai Chi. In general, you will not get a good answer from any practitioners. Since this is a physical thing in the human body. Therefore, I did a research by reading books on physiology to understand the human body. What I had found out is that when we do exercise the blood circulate faster than normal. Hence, the pressure is higher when the blood reach the capillaries. The reaction of the capillaries is contract to neutralize the blood pressure, otherwise the capillaries will explode. The tingling feeling was from the contraction of the capillaries. It is completely normal inside the human body. I am happy with this explanation. There is nothing to worry about. Good luck! Happy Qi Gong practice!
  12. Purpose of QiGong

    Yes, please watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBAHRqOtJDQ

  14. Shared Meditation Journal

I watch movies late at night. So, I go to bed very late and woke up with braintire. Sometime in the afternoon, I sat at a semi lotus position and closed my eyes. Taken Taoist breathing, like slow deep breathing, for 15 to 20 minutes in a trancelike state. Then, I felt like I was rejunvenated and replenished. As a mater of fact, sometimes, I have to meditate before conducting a Tai Chi class.
  15. welcome

IMO Meditation is not to communicate between spoken words and subconsciousness. Rather we let the subconscious to dictate the spoken words or not. Spoken words are intentional by the subconscious. However, the subconscious has two choices of action. It is either intentional or spontaneous. The purpose of the meditation is to keep a cleat mind and alert to react spontaneously without thinking. The pure concentrated thought alone is to initiate not to have any thought at all. Thus one would have a clear conscious to put oneself in a neutral state. This is know as a Taoist meditation. There is also one more requirement for the kind of meditation: slow deep breathing. Sorry to say, there are 90% of the people were not told or ignored about the part of breathing in meditation.

  17. Purpose of QiGong

Yes, however, there two types of Qi gong: static and dynamic. Static is motionless like sedentary and isometric; and dynamic is isotonic exercise like Tai Chi. If Tai Chi performed properly, deep breathing will kick in after a long period of diligent practice. Breathing is the key beneficial factor from practicing qi gong. If deep breathing was not performed in Tai Chi to coordinate with the movements, one is not doing Tai Chi and accomplished nothing.
  18. Hi guys, "五毛" ( "Wǔmáo" ) means fifty cents. 毛 is 1/10 of a any currency. It is 1/10 of a yuen(元), a Chinese dollar. It is analogous to a dime in USD. yi yuan(一元) is analogous to a US dollar. one 塊/kuài means yi yuan(一元) meiyuan(美元) means American dollar. meijin(美金) means American currency. RMB(人民幣) means people's currency. To distinguish the kind of currency in dollar wise, the sign in the Chinese market would have posted as such: yi yuan(一元) RMB(人民幣) yi yuan(一元) meijin(美金) PS Sorry ChiDragon is back!
  19. Cultivation technique???

Hi, Mspitzer65: Do the lotus sitting as suggested above but you must do slow deep breathing constantly. It is because you will need lots of oxygen for your body to perform all the activities of the internal organs. Even you are not sitting in a lotus position, you should do the slow deep breathing method as your normal breathing habit if you can. Breathing slowly means inhale and exhale slowly. I am sure you will feel the difference in your health condition in few weeks or months. BTW Taiji is the best exercise to improve your health. Returndragon
