    There is no substitionary atonement in Daoism as far as I'm aware, and it would actually be easier for me to draw parallels between Catholicism and Daoism with say the intercession of the Saints and some immortals, the ritualistic aspects of both as religions, and the return to God or Dao as "goal" - however spurious some of these correlations may appear to others. Focusing more broadly than looking for a resurrected god figure may be a simpler and more easily traversed route. And I'm going to tag both @ralis and @steve, who have shared information and resources before regarding the work and understanding of Jesuit priests whose writings may provide some assistance for your friend in finding common ground and a way to bridge the divide.

Insidious implies harm is done, and as far as I can tell, while he certainly played part in the derailment of this thread, he's actually quite incapable of harming any of his fellow posters here. Regarding the eyes pecked out bit, in Crowley's notes it had to do with holding the wrong view. (The notes are fascinating BTW)
  11. I actually liked the crows pecking at eyes bit, as it reminded me of the Book of the Law, and the Aeon of Horus, and helped me find a further paradigm for understanding.
  12. The persona is accomplished, and trying to assert personal value, while interacting with people who wished to focus on the heart/mind integration of another. Since the persona is intellectualized and intellectually focused (not heart/mind integrated), this is a vague threat which the persona/ego must fight - for it's own survival. What else would someone whose credentials have defined them do when they find themselves in a place where these (personally) highly valued credentials are viewed as meaningless? Would they be able to just hang as equals? Or would they keep attempting to assert themselves and use this cred as a sort of armor?

  17. There are people here I like and have come to consider friends, and I love the connections and interactions - especially when they provide me with something I find interesting enough to personally or intellectually explore.
  18. I think it was intentional on his part. He surely is clever like that.. Btw I don't know if it's the same, and don't know how much experience you have with being demonized for what's in somebody else's head, and how amazingly confusing it can be.

  20. Oh.. the opening for jokes is HUGE! But given what you said in another thread about being "looked into" and my own experience with the same I still find myself starting to write quips and jokes and then deleting them on occasion. Damn the patriarchal mindset and it's demonizing, projecting and cowardly portrayals... and damn me for just wanting some peace and self regulating as a means of avoidance.

  25. As we've now bounded completely off the rails, I'm going to address what would have been generally ignored prior to Walker's renaming of this thread. We'll start with this. Nobody who actually knows me, or understood my post in the manner it was written would have then written these words in response to me. The statement in the post itself highlighted what was arising within, and the question in the post very clearly and directly invited and left room for you to share your actual intent - with the understanding what was arising within for me may not be in alignment with your intent. This starts getting muddy, and I can only guess you started writing stream of consciousness stuff here.. Was this meant to suggest I should share my own cred to compare with yours? Or maybe you should have better defined your own? See? There you go again, throwing your cred out there like the Tom Cruise character in Eyes Wide Shut repeatedly saying, "I'm a doctor" - which was just as odd, confusing and off putting to me when I viewed the film. It's like a man drowning in a world he doesn't understand repeating his own mantra of self worth. Alot to do with my own path, and nothing to do with Mister Rogers. Nope, and it wasn't intended to, although I can understand why my honest sharing could have left you feeling defensive, and thereby unable to understand the following question. I took my inventory, and even started with "I'm beginning to find.." and expressed curiosity about your actual intent (the question I asked). How odd to assume you've presented a challenge, and even odder to believe you somehow have power to tell me what to share, when you've spent how much time in this thread playing "the get to know all about me" game. Does this go with the grown up version of "I'm made of rubber and you're made of glue" game you tried playing with me at the beginning of this post? Too late. We're wandering the wastelands of a completely derailed thread now.
