  1. Maybe standing represents a single element.

Yep - I'd be happy to agree with that

    Thank you.

The positions are from The Way of Energy? I don't have the books with me but I remember the 3rd position in TWoE is the 2nd in The Way of Healing. Don't know why it was changed.

The ones I've listed are all from 'The Way of Energy'

Slightly deviating from the five elements and focusing on ZZ at bit more, the following link gives a description of the various stances and what their purposes are which I find quite helpful. It may help link the stances to the five elements a bit better ...

  2. I practice Zhan Zhuang guided by the books of Master Lam Kam Chuen. Z.Z. postures seem to be related to the 5 elements but unfortunately that isn't mentioned in the books.

Many years ago I came across a website that related the 5 positions in LKC's book to the five elements in the following way

    1st position = water

    2nd position = fire

    3rd position = wood

    4th position = earth

    5th position = metal

I've absolutely no idea how accurate these are but if I'm doing the healing sounds while doing ZZ, then I hold the 1st position while making the sound for water etc. Although the order I follow is metal, water, wood, fire, earth.

But I hardly ever do that so I'm not too bothered if I'm getting things totally wrong.

  3. Nooooooooo

I'm afraid that if you feel that Karl is being antagonistic, that feeling is purely in you, his words are actually completely passive.

I'm currently reading 'I Am That' by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and his words are having quite an influence on how I am currently framing my thoughts.

One of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj analogies is that the world is full of rings and the mind is full of hooks, and it is our job to try to straighten out the hooks of our mind.

All of Karl's words are nothing more than passive rings, it is your mind that is actively hooking on to them.

What Karl's motive is for presenting them is not for us to answer.

  4. The field of boundless emptiness is what exists from the very beginning.

You must purify, cure, grind down, or brush away all the tendencies you have fabricated into apparent habits.

Then you can reside in the clear circle of brightness.

Utter emptiness has no image, upright independence does not rely on anything.

Just expand and illuminate the original truth unconcerned by external conditions.

Accordingly we are told to realise that not a single thing exists.

In this field birth and death do not appear.

The deep source, transparent down to the bottom, can radiantly shine and can respond unencumbered to each speck of dust without becoming its partner.

The subtlety of seeing and hearing transcends mere colours and sounds.

The whole affair functions without leaving traces, and mirrors without obscurations.

Very naturally mind and dharmas emerge and harmonise.

An ancient said that non-mind enacts and fulfils the way of non-mind.

Enacting and fulfilling the way of non-mind, finally you can rest.

Proceeding you are able to guide the assembly.

With thoughts clear, sitting silently, wander into the centre of the circle of wonder.

This is how you must penetrate and study.

  5. Needs must for me in this case.

I'm of the generation that if you had any interest in computers, you had to learn basic programming to use them. But, when I meet 'tech savy' younger people, although they can do far more with a computer than me, they only know how to actually code if they've made a special effort. There is so much you can do with computers these days without having to create code.

  6. hahahahahahaha trump challenges hillary to take a drug test before the next debate to prove she aint high as a kite to suppress her failing neurology

Over here in the UK, we've got a right wing party trying to work out how to deal with Brexit and a left wing party trying to work out how to deal with each other. So, when I read about what's happening in the USA it's almost a relief that were're not the only ones who read the daily newspapers in near disbelief as to whats going on.

  7. Oh my god, I'm finding this contest captivating. Lots of crazy stuff going on in this campaign, but based on what happened with Brexit, I still think Trump will come through.

There was a noticeable dent to Trump's polling with the sexual allegations, but quite often the impact of these things diminish after time. Were the allegations made too early to have a lasting effect up until the election? Unless there's worse in store, those who want Trump will probably still vote for him.

It's all fascinating stuff and I'm afraid that secretly I'm really enjoying all the drama.

  8. Awesome. Just four days ago my mum taught me to knit. After 4 days I've finished my first scarf, the idea is to have 15 done by Christmas for my relatives. The thing is - I just cant believe how addictive it is. I guess it's something to do with using both hands in a focused way. I even did it today at a train station and while sitting on the floor and guess what, someone threw me some money thinking I was a homeless beggar - result !

  9. I like to wait till 10 games played until making any serious predictions - but City do look strong - both United and Chelsea a bit erratic as yet.

Yep - there was a lot of excitement about this season and, thankfully, it all seems justified. At the moment it does look as though City could win it at a canter, which takes a little excitement away BUT - their games will still be great to watch AND after them the table is completely wide open for the next 5 to 10 spots. Which means its going to be great fun following it all !!!

  10. If you take a load of randomly generated computer code, shake it up and then run what comes out enough times, eventually you'll get some code that can copy and replicate itself.

It this code now alive? Was there any divine purpose behind this self replicating code? What happens when the original version is finally deleted? And then all the subsequent copies?

Our brains have evolved to a state where they can ask some pretty deep questions.

  11. Oh yes!

It was a great weekend. I have to admit, I don't know of any Swansea supporters other than you BlackStar, so when Swansea got the draw against a strong Chelsea it made me smile and I did think of you !!!

I'm quite impartial over all as there's no one team I support, I just like keeping up to date with what's going on. But, part of me is now a Swan! They're well on course for staying up which is no bad thing, and given that I put some money on Man U to win ... I'm looking forward to the 24th when the Swans take on Man City. :) :) :)

  12. Ha ha. I've read BFK's book 'Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body' where he gives an introduction to Zhan Zhuang. In it he mentions other kinds of exercises such as 'Gods Playing in the Clouds'. After watching a number of his Youtube videos, this is really possibly something you need to do with a teacher.

After some ZZ, I always do some simple swinging of my arms. So, the swings start off small, and then they get large enough so that my right hand bangs against my left shoulder and vice-versa. The swing then dies down. This is actually quite a common swing, is described in a few Chi Kung books and is meant to be very beneficial. For example, its meant to help stimulate/activate various lymph vessel and other things.

Everyday I also do some shaking of my limbs, this is another simple exercise that takes no real instruction (I hope, as I have none).

I then rub my body all over - these are all things I do after my ZZ.

Before, one of the things I do is perform windmills with my arms both ways. I only do 5, think you are meant to do 30.

As for the ZZ itself, you can still gain great benefits from just holding your arms up in the 2nd position, or holding a balloon. I've done this myself while lying down when I was not feeling great and it allows you to still relax your mind while putting a minor stress on your muscles which increases the blood flow during the 'meditation'.

This can be done daily for the number of minutes that you feel comfortable.

I also do the healing sounds, which has surprisingly enough really benefited my ZZ, they just seem to compliment each other.

  13. People have different strengths and weaknesses. I was volunteering at a homeless shelter this morning where a lot of the people have a lot of resent towards their life situation. They feel out of control and so try to impose themselves on anything they can just so they have an influence on their surroundings. Unfortunately, this often happens to the be very people that are trying to help them, and so they are impolite, rude and nearly violent towards them.

I was a teacher in some tough schools and so this anger has no effect on me as I know it's just these people trying to gain some control of their life and nothing personal is meant by it. I can remain polite and understanding and can calm them down with relative ease. But it can really effect others working there.

However, when that has died down and there is just some normal back ground chat like in any place, it seems to enter my mind and direct my thoughts. I end up judging all the words that I hear. These quieter, subtler things influences me more.

So I have strengths and weaknesses in different situations ...

  14. I'm afraid I'm with Karl on this one. Putting forward the hypothetical argument that there is something wrong with her, this information must have been know by those close to her and yet she was still put forward as a strong candidate. I guess that earlier on in the campaign she had enough support and her symptoms were small enough that the gamble was taken that she'd be alright until the election.

In terms of world news, right now, her issues are making headlines around the globe.

I know that in the grander scheme of things, for me, her health and who gets elected has so little impact on my life that I shouldn't really care that much. But, I enjoy taking interest in the story of life around the world, and this story is one that is really quite interesting. Just like a few months ago with will Leicester win the Premiership and will Britain Brexit?

    Will Trump win???

  15. Oooooooo ... there are only so many drugs you can give someone to keep them pepped up. In some ways it's a good thing there are still a couple of months left until the election as any weaknesses will be clearly seen in that time.

If it is nothing too serious, then she'll be able to put in a good/reasonable show. If she is struggling, then that will also be obvious.

  16. I think this is likely the beginning of the end for her campaign. She isn't going to get away with saying it's hear exhaustion, it wasn't even particularly warm. It looks like Parkinson's according to the experts. The truth will have to emerge, she has two months left and the pressure will be unrelenting. Trump will capitalise on every no show and every blip.

What's going to be more interesting is the aftermath of any revelation. Who knew and when ? If they didn't know then why ? In the aftermath of her coughing, seizures, memory loss and stumbling why wasn't something done ? The Democratic Party it's processes (after what they did to Bernie), vetting, integrity, truthfulness and reputation will be shot to bits. I don't know how recoverable that is ?

It doesn't stop there either. What about the press ? They made no attempt to report anything other than whatever the PR campaign managers told them, yet clearly (if it comes out) there was an obvious problem which required reporting to the public. The MSN will have burned every scintilla of credibility in the process of effectively supporting an elitist cover up.

Hmmm ... my Grandmother had Parkinsons and, after seeing Hillary give speeches and interviews recently, I wouldn't be surprised if she did have some similar syndrome, which is quite sad. But only today did I find out that Trump himself is 70. Although he does come across as still having quite a bit of juice in the tank.

  17. Thank you for this thread Apech.

Actually, there are a number of threads on this kind of topic and I think that they are a good thing. When I first started reading through Daobum threads 3 years ago, I was quite anxious at the time and this made me sensitive to subtle energies. I found that I could only come to this website about once a week as after reading a few threads I was 'knocked for six' energetically.

I don't believe this had anything to do with any negative intentions within the website, it was more a case of – those who come here tend to be more energetically sensitive, and people here give off these vibrations in their posts.

I was in such a place that even these small amounts of vibrations would take time for me to process. Its strange that I really don't feel this any more here, which is nice. That is in part due to the fact that I'm in a better place now and also I'm not naturally tuned in to those things.

But, this does go on, either consciously or subconsciously and just discussing it and bringing it into our awareness where it can be better processed is only a good thing.

  18. After a week or two of using it, Serrapeptase actually made my heart hurt a bit when I breathed deeply. I've read somewhere that it can work as a blood thinner, which is good if you've got slightly blocked arteries as it means the blood will flow more easily.

But, if the blood thins, then the valves in the heart change their efficiency and what I think happened was that my heart was filling up with more blood than it was used to and so started to struggle to pump when put under pressure. Not entirely sure, but these small heart pains went away when I stopped using it.

  19. Well, I've now put £10 on Trump winning. This isn't based on who is best, just who I reckon will now get elected. I've got to admit, you guys have got it tough. I'm normally left wing so I'd be with the Democrats (in one or two terms I think Michelle Obama will run and most likely get in and is someone I'd vote for if I had a vote).

But who would I chose out of the current two if I had to. I'm afraid, if forced, I'd go Trump. He's some one who feeds off attention and says whatever in that particular moment will get him the most. It's not that he always believes it.

I just cant bring myself to side with Hillary, and part of it is her age. When you get to a certain age, you ability to assimilate large amounts of information deteriorates so instead, you just recycle previous opinions. In four years time, these issues will just get worse.

The bright side is that, on the whole, those in charge of massive institutions can't really make all that much difference due to all the bureaucracy. Yes, they get screen time, which is what Trump really wants, but I just don't think he'll be given the power to make too many bad decisions, I could be proved very wrong here of course.

    Good luck guys ... :)

  20. I've recently brought myself a very small second hand steam engine off ebay. It has a little boiler where the water goes and you put a small fire lighter under it. For ten minutes, as long as the right parts are oiled properly, the steam powers a mini wheel which spins frantically around driving absolutely nothing but itself.

I only allow myself once session a night, but watching this pointless device do its thing always puts a smile on my face. It even has a whistle which is surprisingly loud, but I don't like to use it too much as the wheel slows down a bit when I do.

My life is a little bit better thanks to my steam engine!
