I've never had formal instruction so I'm not really in the best place to advise, but my go to book to explain it to a regular person would be Lam Kam Chuen's 'The Way of Energy'. My only advice on this book is you don't have to rush up to 20 min stands quite as fast as he suggests.

At the moment, I don't think researchers have as a priority to develop a "quantum AI". In fact, a mathematically unsolvable problem is not solvable whether in a classical or in a quantum framework. But a few problems hard to solve with a classical computer can be solved faster with a quantum computer. This is the case for the discrete logarithm and the integer factorization problems, which are used, respectively, in the El Gamal and RSA algorithms. (These algorithms are used in cryptography, for key exchange.)

Yes, yes yes - but of all the numerous algebraic problems there are, those that are solved more efficiently by a Quantum computer is still, at the moment, relatively small. Currently they need keeping at liquid Helium temperatures and they just cant be that complex yet. This, of course, may well change in time.

But its a bit like nuclear fusion. A great concept that has so much potential. However, how many decades before it has a serious social impact?

Because I have a short ZZ practice every morning, my legs have some strength. I was playing some snooker this afternoon and was able to really sit down into the shot due to the muscles in the legs. But, when I tried this, I had mixed results.
Â
Lowering down to a squat with crossed legs was simple. However, getting my bum down to the ground was another matter. I kind of fell backwards and hit the ground with a bump. Then trying to get from sitting on my bum back into a squat without touching the ground with my hands proved very difficult indeed. It took a lot of rocking and waving of arms, very ungraceful.

Once back in the squatting position, the rest was easy.

I'm glad I tried as I now feel a lot more awake as I type this post - whether I'll ever do it again, not so sure

If I had a vote, I would have gone for him rather than Hillary too. As I don't, watching the election campaign was just a source of fun and entertainment with all the twists and turns that went on.

What I did not foresee was that all this 'entertainment' (madness) would just carry straight on after the election and in to the presidency. It seems that there are four years of this circus to go...

Apparently they have a big red button that turns off all the computer servers at Google in case they get, ummm, carried away / too clever.

There are already programs that are analysing the internet in order to learn. For example, shortly after Brexit, the French finance minister gave a long speech about how the pound was going to devalue loads, it had already done so by 20% by then anyway. Well, there are financial computers that read all the news paper headlines and then make predictions as to what effect this will have on the stock markets and then shift money accordingly in microseconds.

This one computer read the headlines based on what the French finance minister said and shifted lots of currency out of sterling. When this happened, then a load of other similar programs saw the fall in the pound and also sold sterling. The currency then took another 10 to 20% dip for a few minutes before equilibrium kicked in and the pound then went back to what it was.

This 'flash' crash is an example of computers learning from what we all put on the internet. If that is a computers main source of learning, its a bit worrying.

There is so much thought that is put into these programs in order to make them as addictive as possible. There is not one word, shot, or intimation that is unconsidered. Teasing/playing/flirting with the darker sides of our personality is a very effective way to entice us. That mild adrenaline rush as we watch a particular scene – completely contrived and very deliberate.

It's all a battle between Shia and Sunni Muslims. Assad and his government is Shia, but much of the population is Sunny. So it is a rebellious Sunni majority who were trying to take down a Shia minority government.

The Shia ruling class in Iran backs Assad and so funds him.

The sides that the USA and Russia take are predominately determined by what their relationships are to each of these groups.

The failure to successfully manage these two factions is one of the main reasons for the collapse of Iraq and rise of ISIS after the Americans left (although another one was the disbandment of 60,000 Iraqi soldiers who just waited for the withdrawal before they went back to doing what they knew how to).

For me to answer that, I'd ask myself what were my own experiences in regards to this. My kind of character is definitely of the 'consistency fetish' and I'm actually quite happy repeating the same thing time and again.

However, when I evaluate a spiritual practice, I always find it helps comparing it to learning a musical instrument, as the dedication required is of a similar kind, but the results in music are for more obvious and external. For me to get a proficient level of music, where I can just pick up my instruments and play to a standard I'm happy with took 2 years of practice 20 hours a week (2 hours weekday evenings and 5 hours Saturday and Sunday). Once I'd got to a level I was happy with, I suddenly lost all interest and didn't pick up my instruments for months and months.

It took a lot dedication to get to a level I wanted and this time was sometimes really quite solitary, but it paid off. Now though, I hardly play at all, except at Christmas when I practice a little bit so I can play some Christmas tunes for my nephews.

Possibly bigger than this is the outcome of the Italian vote yesterday. The relatively pro-EU Premier was voted down by a 60% - 40% majority. He has now stepped down.

His pro-EU political party has 31% support of the country, however, the anti-EU 5 Star party has 30% and the anti-EU Northan League party 16%.

If these two who both want out of the EU go into some sort of coalition in order to achieve their aims, they have a clear majority. And how these two parties take advantage of the mild political chaos in Italy will have a large impact on the future of the EU.

But Italy is in a tough place. They hate the 100,000 plus immigrants that have landed on their shores in the last year. They think the open borders of the EU encourage this. They also hate the austerity measures imposed upon them by the ECB.

However, their banking industry is in taters and is quite likely to require a bail out from whom? The ECB, or other words, Germany.

Watching and trying to follow the livestream Supreme Court today I can't help thinking the following:

Before the referendum there should have been clear legal advice on the process of Article 50 and how it can be activated. Â So we all knew where we stood and what the status of the referendum was. Â Secondly there should have been an independent study of the possible effects of the yes or no vote. Â e.g. hard brexit implications, soft brexit implication, remain implication, so people could make an informed choice.

This is true. Cameron could easily have worded the referendum so that the outcome was simply legally binding. Instead, he made the wording of it advisory, as he had no desire himself (possibly due to personal financial reasons) to leave the EU.

But - the good news is that, from what I've been picking up from reading various news websites, if triggering article 50 goes to Parliament first, both Tory and Labour MPs will vote it through. Labour, in the form of Corbyn may well try to make it slightly awkward, but when he does makes these noises, other Labour MPs just talk it down.

This is results was a great one. A smug Tory with a massive majority thought that if he stepped down from his party in protest against a new air-plane runway in his constituency he would cruse back into his seat as an independent.

Rather then the locals being impressed with his integrity in standing up for them about an important local issue - the area, which voted 73% in favour to remain in the EU, used it as an anti-anti-EU vote and elected a completely dormant candidate, just because that candidate favours remaining in the EU.

For those unfamiliar with UK political parties, the winning candidate was a Lib Dem, a small centre party between right wing Conservatives/Tories and left wing Labour. This small party went into coalition with the Tories two general elections ago as the Tories didn't have enough seats for a majority. The Lib Dems then had some power and influence but were totally destroyed in the last election for sacrificing their principles.

But now - they just over turned a massive majority and come back from the dead for being a pro EU party. As said two paragraphs ago, this region was always strong remaining  - but, as the article says, Brexit is now a defining issue in nearly everything political

There are Iron Shirt techniques that use perineum power (or the muscles around the lower pelvis) to direct chi/pressure to various parts of the body in order to pack them with energy. Unfortunately, if due to emotional issues, these muscles are permanently tense, then you are effectively constantly inadvertently (sorry for all the adverbs) using this method to send energy up your torso and in to your head. The only way to stop this happening is to develop a practice where you gain more and more control over these muscles. Once you have, you can then tell them to relax. The aim is then to keep them relaxed throughout the day, no matter the circumstances (this is can be very difficult). Only when you have truly learnt to relax these muscles do you have a good chance of allowing the energy from your head to descend naturally. What this suggest is that you should really gain this skill first before you try out the MCO, if at all.

Stuff like this is, in many ways, a good thing. A strong trading block comprising of countries which have similar values has many benefits. Standing together, a group of 700 million people gives EU citizens some protection/strength against other, very large trading partners.Â

But, for me, it went too far.

I used to try out short term semen retention in my 20's and I'd go through a regular cycle of feeling amazing like I was on drugs, then having the worst comedown in the world. After 3 months of this I decided to get off the roller coaster ride and not bother.ÂNow I'm approaching 40, short term semen retention is really quite easy and has nothing but a mild effect on my life. This is simply due to the lower levels of testosterone in my system which makes the whole thing far more manageable and is also eased by having a simple spiritual practice.ÂSo, if you're in your 20's it's best to just avoid what you've been doing and let your body reset.ÂAs far as the other symptoms - I recommend going to the gym and getting yourself fit, it will resolve most of your issues. It's something I never did and I kind of regret it now as it does get more difficult as time goes on.

Quitaly – or, Quit Italy.

This is when Italy quits the single currency due to disagreeing with the financial measures imposed on it by the European Central Bank (or, otherwise know as, Germany).

Very important constitutional election coming up in Italy next Sunday. Although it does not signify much in itself, if it goes in a particular direction, it will give a very large momentum to the politicians in Italy who would like to move away from the EU.

And, unlike Trump and Brexit, the pollsters are actually predicting a win for the anti-EU politicians.

From a UK position, there are a lot of elections like this coming up around Europe over the next year which could completely change the EU and, therefore, our relationship with it.
Â
After the Second World War, greater and greater integration between EU countries only seemed a good thing. But, has it gone to far and are we now seeing a natural re-balancing?

In the end, everything will be fine as everyone will just go one living their lives as before, however, there are a lot of interesting times coming up ...

It's kind of strange that Daoist practices help you become aware of something that is so naturally obvious to animals - it does suggest that we've lost some thing along the way, but at least we've got some way of finding it again.

I have a simple standing meditation practice based on the book 'The Way of Energy' by Lam Kam Chuen. It's my daily practice which helps me and isn't too complicated.

Curios topic to come up. As my hair line has been receding for some time now, just last week I took the plunge and shaved it all off down to a gleaming bald dome.

I've just finished my first week with a bald head and after seeing the people at the various organisations I visit, I have to admit I'm still processing the experience so I can't really sum it up yet.

Just to say, there were a range of reactions – very roughly, women under 25 thought it was not so good, women over 25 thought it made me look better.
Â
I am glad I've done it and would recommend it. But the thing is, I do like changing my look every-now-and-then, for example, I like growing beards twice a year just to shave them off again. My only sadness with shaving my head hair off is that this is pretty much how it's going to stay, so I've still got to get used to it a little bit more.

On the plus side though – I feel I've managed to avoid a possible impending mid-life crisis within the space of just 10 minutes and a pair of clippers, so that's good.

My personal opinion is that Chen yingning was right and that seated meditation is the best way to achieve the spiritual level of practice and to change the mind back to its original state, but that qi gong, standing and so on, are very good ways to cultivate post heaven qi and can be used directly to assist with your meditaiton training.
To that end, I usually do Qi gong before I meditate, because it helps me enter a deep meditation state much faster and helps my body be comfortable to sit for longer.

I know there are many opinions on this, so I'm not trying to pretend to be totally right, but at least from my own personal experience as well as the recommendation of my teacher, this is the conclusion I've come to on the subject.

I've definitely found meditative states are easier to achieve through sitting as opposed to standing. But at the moment I only have enough motivation for a relatively short practice each morning and I get more overall benefit from a stand than a sit so that's where I'm at at the moment. As far as the OP goes, I guess the best thing would be to do as SBHHE
suggests and use both appropriately

Don't beat yourself up too much. You'll undoubtedly have gained much from the time and effort you put in, even if you don't feel you have. Your two years of effort will also only help what ever practice you move on to next. I used to have a simple sitting practice, I've now moved onto a simple standing practice. Having done the sitting practice has helped give me far more realistic expectations of my standing.

Its kind of a practice of opposites, there's relaxation as well as effort. The simple explanation here is that due to there being a minor strain on the leg and maybe arm muscles, the heart does have to beat a bit quicker and the lungs do have to draw in a bit more breath. But, because the demand is relatively small compared to running, the cardio-vascular system is not pushed beyond it's capability. This then allows the second effect of post standing to take place. That of relaxation.

In part, the nervous system gets to relax purely by the fact the body is relatively stationary and so it's not having to process so much. But also, because the mind gets to relax as well, the whole system relaxes. This is when the body goes into a similar state to sleep and meditation and the para-symphatic nervous system takes over (as opposed to running around when the symphatic nervous system is dominant). When the para-symphatic system is more in control, the body goes in to a healing state, just like sleeping - but - because the heart is beating that little bit quicker, it is like a super charged healing state.

In the past couple of months I've had some bones examined by x-ray and my eyes examined by an opticians. Both the bones and the back of my eyes were apparently very free of impurities and defects. I like to think this is due to my standing, but unfortunately I never got these things looked at before I started my practice so I cant be certain.
