  1. Mair 2:7

I agree, this is an invective against the analytical mind which creates paradoxes such as When a white horse is not a horse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaWhen A White Horse Is Not A Horse also known as the White Horse Dialogue (Chinese: 白馬論; pinyin: Báimǎ Lùn; Wade–Giles: Pai-ma Lun; literally: "white horse discourse"), is a famous paradox in Chinesephilosophy. ... chapters discuss Baima-related concepts of jian 堅 "hard; hardness" and bai 白 "white; whiteness", ..

He might be;) But the thing is nowhere in the ancient lit. is Yu referred to as holy. Holy Yŭ 神禹 is an obvious scribal error for a 'holy teacher' 神師. This paragraph is an opinion on the limitations of studying under a teacher and advantages of the intuitive knowledge. Compare this to ' I have been thinking a lot to no use, it is better to study (under a teacher) - said by Confucius. Properly translated it goes as follows. There are those who follow their ‘complete heart’ and also have a teacher, but what about those who are alone without a teacher? Must they understand things by (what they would have learned from a teacher) or can they intuit with their hearts? Even a stupid person has a heart so he can intuit. Lets take some one (who learned) what is right and wrong (from a teacher) and present him with a paradox ‘left today – arrived yesterday’. (He will be confused) and will take something non-existing for existing. But if he does that, even having a god-like teacher will not help him to understand. And somebody alone without a teacher – will not understand at all.

Thats very much in the ballpark Marbles. Indeed this excerpt is about misunderstanding in communication. Ironically the gist of it was lost in translation. What these befuddled academics mistranslated as lucidity or the light of the mind or clarity is a technical term 'to illustrate'. Not realizing that they produced a lot of chirping in print. The last sentence sums up ZZ's message. 欲是其所非而非其所是,則莫若以明。 A truth is defined by a falsity, and a falsity is defined by a truth, there is no other way to illustrate those.

  17. Tolerance, Apathy and the Fall of Civilizations

words do not matter. actions do. of course acceptance is tolerance. A synonym is a word or phrase that means nearly the same as another word or phrase in the same language. Words that are synonyms are said to be synonymous, and the state of being a synonym is called synonymy. The word comes from Ancient Greek syn (σύν) ("with") and onoma (ὄνομα) ("name"). Exactly. The seeds of buddhism fell on well ploughed ground in China.
  24. Mair - 2:2

Yes just facts and observation but of own thought process. Here ZZ is strugling to understand where the human thoughts come from. First he describes their variety. Big knowledge small knowledge, decisive thoughts, languid thoughts, competing thoughts etc. Then states that there is no way to know how the thoughts originate except to make an observation that they stream on day and night. Having said that, he exclaims Aha! ( Enough! Enough! - Mair; That is enough! That is enough! -Zy) and heuristically concludes that the thoughts are caused by the very same passage of time during which the thoughts flow.
